PROFESSIONALS USE DERMAROLLER®.
THE GOLD STANDARD IN MICRO-NEEDLING.
DERMAROLLER® MICRO-NEEDLING
When it comes to minimally invasive treatments, micro-needling Collagen
Induction Therapy (CIT) with the Dermaroller®, is clinically-proven and is perhaps
the most effective and successful treatment available for the common signs and
symptoms of aging, such as wrinkles, loss of skin volume, crepey skin, as well
as minimizes scars and stretch marks.
Dermaroller® therapy triggers the body’s spontaneous healing process, stimulating
cell proliferation, and causing the formation of new collagen. This results in a
thicker, more supple, cellular matrix.

The Dermaroller® causes minimally invasive, precision micro-injuries in the
papillary and reticular layers of the dermis (without causing ablative damage).
These micro-injuries trigger the body’s wound healing cascade, which induces an
increased collagen production in the treated skin. Dermaroller® triggers the
construction of new tissue by stimulating healthy cell regeneration in targeted
areas. It effectively reduces wrinkles, tightens and thickens the skin, and fills and
smoothes scars.
The main physiological affects of micro-needling are called:
DERMAROLLER® MICRO-NEEDLING
ANGIOGENESIS
The process through which new blood
vessels form, out of pre-existing vessels.
NEO-COLLAGENESIS
The generation of new collagen, which is the
structural protein found in the connective skin layer
that is necessary to maintain youthful skin.

DERMAROLLER® MICRO-NEEDLING
PROCESS
Dermaroller® surgical-grade micro-needles
penetrate to the needed depth in the
dermis causing “pin-point bleeding” and
triggering the body’s spontaneous healing
response. Identifying a small dot of blood
means that the needed depth has been
reached.
DERMAROLLER® MICRO-NEEDLING
PROCESS
1. TREATMENT
The punctured blood vessels causes
bleeding, blood platelets are released,
which in turn release molecular
messengers called “growth factors”. This
instructs the fibroblasts to generate new
collagen and elastin, meaning new skin.
DERMAROLLER® MICRO-NEEDLING
PROCESS
2. HEALING CASCADE
New organized collagen & elastin
forms, bolstering from within, while the
epidermis becomes thicker and more
supple, each time a treatment is
performed.
3. YOUNGER LOOKING SKIN

PROCESS
• Growth Factors
Micro-needling causes the release of growth factors. The most predominant one is
“Transforming Growth Factor Beta 3” or TGF-β₃ . TGF-β₃ plays a key role in wound
healing, and dermal remodelling. TGF-β₃ stimulates the fibroblasts to repair the skin
through the production of new collagen and elastin. As these proteins are produced,
the damaged skin is replaced with new skin with improved structure and elasticity.
TGF-β₃, has been shown to increase the production of collagen in a mesh-like
formation during wound healing – meaning scar-less wound healing.
• Vitamins
To make good quality collagen and elastin, our body needs adequate vitamins in the
skin. These can be supplied through topicals and/or nutrition. The most important
vitamins to the healing process are vitamin A, vitamin C & vitamin E.

CONTRIBUTORS TO SUCCESS
• Time Between Treatments
The body’s natural wound healing process takes time. Therefore a period of 6 to 8
weeks is recommended in between micro-needling treatments.
• Treatment Protocol
Based on best practices, the protocol is 3 treatments, 6 to 8 weeks apart.
• Down-time
During a treatment it is recommended to use an anaesthetic cream with 5% Lidocaine
in order to eliminate discomfort. After a micro-needling treatment, the treated area will
be tender with mild redness that should diminish within a day or two.

• Licensing
When looking for a device for your clinic (any device) one of the first things you should
check is to see if the device is Health Canada Registered and cleared for use. Without
proper licensing you are placing both your business and your clients’ skin at risk. If
issues occur post treatment, you may not be insurable and the outcome could be
devastating. You can check Health Canada's website for Medical Device Active
Licence Listing here: www.MDALL.ca.
All Dermaroller® products have a valid license by Health Canada.
ASPECTS TO CONSIDER
• Speed
At 150 strokes per second (the fastest on the market) the eDermaStamp by
Dermaroller® can safely glide over the skin without scratching and tearing the skin.
There have been issues with poor quality micro-needling pens which operate at a
slower insertion rate (100 to 120 strokes per second) which can cause scratches and
micro-tears in the tissue as the tip moves across the face. The result can be increased
epidermal damage and increased risk of infection and product sensitivity.
ASPECTS TO CONSIDER
• Depth
There are many devices on the market touting their micro-needling systems for scar
reduction and CIT (Collagen Induction Therapy), however, needle depth is too shallow
for a true CIT treatment (0.3mm and even 0.5mm needles may be too short for true
CIT). The use of shallow pin point depth is meant to avoid the scrutiny of regulations
boards i.e. Health Canada. These devices are marketed as painless (because no
numbing is necessary), but unfortunately will do little regarding skin thickening or scar
reduction and will only have a limited impact on wrinkle reduction. They are simply used
to break up the top layer of dead cells for better product absorption. In order to reduce
scars and provide CIT treatments, you must penetrate the papillary and reticular dermis
which will cause the wounding necessary to release growth factors and ultimately an
increase in Collagen.
ASPECTS TO CONSIDER
• Needle Type
Dermaroller® utilizes Atraumatic surgical
needles (non-traumatic needles). These
needles have an infinite point, they enter the
tissue without tearing and without pressure.
Flat blade needles are like tiny blades, slicing
into the tissue causing unwanted injury to the
skin, they are cheap and easy to manufacture.
The result of using this lessor quality type of
needle is greater chances of infection,
granulomas, longer healing times, inconsistent
results and scarring.
ASPECTS TO CONSIDER
• Number of Needles: When Less is More
There are many systems on the market that boast that they have 10 and more
needles on their tips. This is actually very detrimental for the treatment. The more
needles on the tip, the more resistance against the skin, which results in inconsistent
penetration. Similar to the guru lying down on the bed of nails without puncture - the
more needles you have on the tips the less likely they will reach the depth that is
intended. Not only is it more uncomfortable for the patient, but micro-tears and
scratching the epidermis is more likely to take place (there have been actual cases
where needles were caught in the skin and had to be removed with tweezers!). The
spacing between the needles in Dermaroller® devices has been optimized to ensure
safe and precise penetration.
ASPECTS TO CONSIDER
• Quality Control
Dermaroller® needles and needle plate head are class II medical devices, CE mark
(European) certified medical devices and licensed by Health Canada. Both the device
and needles are produced in ISO 13485 certified factories in Germany. Thus
Dermaroller® and eDermaStamp® products are sterile and the product line is
vigorously checked and tested monthly for contaminants to ensure ongoing quality
control.
ASPECTS TO CONSIDER
• Electric vs. Battery
There are some battery operated pens on the market. However, inconsistent power
means inconsistent performance. The idea of no-cord flexibility might seem attractive,
however as the battery starts to wear out, the tip will slow down and the results can be
unwanted micro tears and scratching of the skin.
ASPECTS TO CONSIDER
• Safe Post Care & Home Care Topical Products
Make sure to use appropriate products made specifically for micro-needling. Check
the fine print or check with the manufacturer as most are labeled "not for broken
skin". Incompatible product lines can cause irritation, granulomas and infection,
particularly with slower devices with numerous needles that cause unwanted
epidermal damage.
Many medical centers use micro-needling to augment PRP treatments for a “Deluxe
Vampire Facial”. The clients’ own plasma is used as a lubricant to provide increased
benefits.
ASPECTS TO CONSIDER
• Effective Post Care & Home Care Topical Products
The Home Care product line by Dermaroller® was specifically designed for
intermediate care at home, to compliment professional treatments at the clinic.
There is an extensive variety of Hyaluronic Acid and Lipopeptide products which
combine vitamins A, C and E that are essential for efficient and effective cell
proliferation. All products are high quality and designed specifically for post-care
micro-needling treatments (broken skin barriers).
The Home Care Dermaroller® (0.2mm) enhances infusion of the important nutrients in
the products. The Home Care Dermaroller® is durable and can be used 3 times a week
for up to one year.
Remark: The Home Care product line by Dermaroller® is sold strictly in clinics that provide
Dermaroller® micro-needling services.
ASPECTS TO CONSIDER
• Additional safety features
The needle cartridge for the eDermaStamp by Dermaroller® is designed with a special
“flow-back-safety-system” to ensure minimum contamination of the hand piece (blood
cannot flow from the tip to the handpiece).
The eDermaStamp by Dermaroller® comes with an easy on/off foot switch in addition
to the on/off button on the device. When you step on the foot switch once the device
turns on, step on it a second time and the device turns off (no need to keep pressing
the foot switch). The use of a foot switch enables the practitioner minimum contact with
the handpiece, which means minimizing the risk of cross-contamination.
