Art Education

Title: Art- Dance, Movement & Mindfulness 101 (Title IV) (29101)

Course Description: This is for schools who have agreed to participate in the Title IV Dance, Movement &

Mindfulness Title IV program. Teachers from these schools will learn integrated strategies and best practices in dance,

yoga and mindfulness from dance educators, and teaching artists in visual arts and dance who professionally practice yoga

and mindfulness. These arts/yoga professionals will work with teachers by modeling age-appropriate movement and

breathing techniques that can seamlessly be integrated into everyday curriculum in any discipline. Teachers will learn

arts-based mindfulness strategies that are aligned with the District's CLRT, restorative practices and trauma informed care

initiatives. All teachers will have continued mentoring support from our teaching artists.

Prerequisites: Teachers must be approved by building principal. Only schools that have requested the program can

participate.

Title: MULTI- Together We Swim: Collaborating & Creating Inspired Dual

Language Learning Spaces (29080)

Course Description: We will take an in-depth, insightful look at Sonia Soltero's "Dual Language Education". Through a

series of collaborative activities, participants will familiarize themselves with theoretically sound, researched-based

programmatic and instructional practices for dual language settings. The course will emphasize the study and implementation

of instructional strategies, such as cooperative learning, thematic teaching, instructional conversations, and scaffolding. Each

participant will receive a free copy of the book as well as of copies of supporting materials.

Prerequisites: Each participant will receive a copy of Sonia Soltero's "Dual Language Education". Registrants must

commit to attend all four (4) sessions of the course and must complete reading assignments before each session. Please register

to the course if you are committed to attending and completing the assigned readings for all sessions.

Music Department

Title: SCD - Music Curriculum Mapping, Online Textbook Training and

World Drumming (29564)

Course Description: Music staff will be separated into 4 small groups: 1. K-8 Group A, 2. K-8 Group B, 3. HS

Classroom Music, 4. HS Instrumental/Choral Music Elementary. Music staff Groups A and B will each attend half day

sessions to (1) work with a McGraw Hill representative in order to receive training about the adopted K-6 textbooks and

(2) work with World Drumming specialists in order to strengthen their performance proficiency with the recently

purchased World Percussion instruments. High school instrumental and choral music staff will conduct small group

sessions about specific instrument technique and pedagogy. These workshops provide support for instrumental and choral

teachers who are not specialists on specific instruments (secondary instruments) so they may turn-key the instruction to

their students. High school classroom music teachers will review the Music in Our Lives curriculum, share best

practices/resources and work collaboratively to create a standardized curriculum map for the 2019-20 school year.

Course Description: This full day training session will fulfill the six hours of in-person training required for 2019-

2020 Lead Evaluator re-certification. This training module will provide instruction and support to lead evaluators of

teachers on what is required per the Buffalo Public School 3012d APPR process and MOU enacted in January 2017. This

session includes instruction help lead evaluators of teachers to demonstrate proficiency in completing a teacher practice

observation using the negotiated NYSUT Rubric indicators, evidence collection, scripting and entry using the districts

APPR management platform. This required training applies to building and central office administrators.

1. Teachers will be introduced and look at the recently release NYSED Course Maps and standards alignment for NYSSLS.

2. Teachers will be introduced to the Achieve Problem Task Screener for NYSSLS. They will look to incorporate the following

and adults with disabilities, there are many support services available. This informative class provides detailed

information to help you learn about requirements and eligibility for services. It will take you through the qualification and

admission processes. The Office of Mental Health (OMH), Office for People with Developmental Disabilities (OPWDD),

and Department of Labor (DOL) are some of the service systems discussed. Olmsted Center for Sight staff will present

on the uses of various AT software including JAWS, FUSION, Zoomtext, Dragon within the classroom. We will also

present on Bluetooth braille devices, Tablet, Apps and smartphones and accessibility and compatibility uses for

instructional needs, socialization and daily living in a variety of populations.

Course Description: Participants will learn the need for Restorative Practices in schools (to address

disproportionality, provide an alternative to the failed zero tolerance policy, and develop social emotional competencies).

Participants will learn and participate in a ceremony cirles.

Participants will learn how to use Restorative Practices with staff, how and when to use Restorative Conversations, and

how to hold problem solving circles.

Participants will receive an overview of the practices at the advanced Tiers, including Restorative Conferences, with some

opportunity to practice at this level as well.

barriers that interfere with effective communication and walk away with strategies to establish and maintain effective

How to Access Community Based Services for Children & Adults with Disabilities (60 minutes) Description: For children

and adults with disabilities, there are many support services available. This informative class provides detailed

information to help you learn about requirements and eligibility for services. It will take you through the qualification and

admission processes. The Office of Mental Health (OMH), Office for People with Developmental Disabilities (OPWDD),

and Department of Labor (DOL) are some of the service systems discussed. Olmsted Center for Sight staff will present

on the uses of various AT software including JAWS, FUSION, Zoomtext, Dragon within the classroom. We will also

present on Bluetooth braille devices, Tablet, Apps and smartphones and accessibility and compatibility uses for

instructional needs, socialization and daily living in a variety of populations.

Course Description: This course is designed to dip deep into the NYSUT rubric. Participants will review the

NYSUT teaching standards and align the Standards, Indicators, and Elements to best practices in instruction. Participants

will work in groups to review the Standards and develop lists of possible evidence for each of the NYSUT indicators.

Groups will share their possible lists of evidence with the whole group. Participants will also watch video of sample

lessons to practice identifying examples of evidence of the NYSUT teaching rubric in real practice. By the end of the

course it is hoped that participants will have a clear understanding of what building administrators, the state, and district

administrators look for in highly effective teachers, lessons, and classroms.
