Key projects I directly influenced, promoted, and implemented the successful rollout. Uniform File Server Systems: Developed a uniform directory structure and login script procedures for 30+ network server systems. Standardized methodology for Network Directory Services across 12 wide area network sites (4500+ users). This system simplified the I.T. support requirements across the organization at the headquarters and importantly at remote mine sites.

Standard Software and Desktop Platforms: Rolled out a standard PC platform to over 1000 customers during a 6 week window. Some customers required a transition from DOS to the Windows platform. The MS-suite was established as the de-facto standard. Resources for this deployment were required to stage, load the PC image, preserve the customers existing data / personal settings, printer capabilities, and training. All required activities had to be timed in order not to disrupt the daily customer activities. This project reduced the I.T. support requirements and positioned the corporation to have standard document interchange format.

File Server Backup System: I developed a system to accomplish on-line backups of file servers. The system ran across 20+ file servers in a continuous mode. The backup system essentially was a backup server that copied all changed data files. During the maintenance window the “backup server” would be backed up to DLT tape unit. This minimized traffic across the network and allow adequate time for the backup process.

Documentation Retrieval System: The legal division had years of electronic files needing to be organized to provide access to all pertinent information. An information manage system was deployed to meet their requirements. This system provided complete file categorizing and word indexing of all files. Security was maintained through a hierarchical rights structure emulating their organizational structure. This system allowed access authorization control for all levels of their employees. This system converted many of their manual paper filing processes into a fully electronic retrieval system. The information was queried via key word searches (similar to a Yahoo search) verses file names and directory naming conventions. This system was especially important to the legal group by providing information to their fingertips. All types of documents were available to be retrieve by category or word search. This facilitated the timely automatic archiving of files, preventing unnecessary file server disk storage growth.

Drawing Retrieval Project: Established a optical storage and retrieve system to access plant operational drawings. The system stored all engineering drawings required for the Grinding Mill operations. 1000s of scanned documents were scanned and storage. The challenges during this period were scanning the large drawings of 36” x 42” and a capable PC viewer software. I wrote a program to integrate the different programs and developed an ORACLE database storage system. This system further provided minimal physical storage space requirements for drawing archives and timely retrieval of AutoCAD engineering files.
