Degree Programs
From the DeanThe School of Extended and International Education (SEIE) provides services for people that are non-traditional students pursuing lifelong learning. We work to provide programs that are relevant for students, including regional residents and employers.
Last year, we served thousands of students from our surrounding counties. 2,500 of those were students receiving credit from our Summer and Winter Intersession programs, assisting them in graduating faster. SEIE is a university within a university. We hope to see you soon!
Professionals never stop learning. Your dynamic workplace calls for a fresh outlook and new skills to be the best you can be.
We offer courses that add new skills and CEUs to your toolset, and keep your licensure up-to-date. Taught by skilled professionals, our programs are scheduled at times that makes sense for working people.
We provide degree programs that are relevant and in demand regionally.
These programs are a collaboration between SEIE and the greater SSU campus, creating intramural partnerships and additional outlets for faculty to teach subjects that they're passionate about.
Sincerely,
Robert Eyler, Ph.D.Dean, School of Extended and International EducationSenior International Officer, Sonoma State University

The Agile Project Management course will combine lecture and discussions with weekly practice quizzes. The intent of the course is to enable an inexperienced student to become an outstanding contributor on an agile project team, while earning his/her required number of work experience hours to take the PMI-ACP exam.
For experienced agile team members, the objective of the course is to provide the required number of class hours and a structured learning environment that will enable them to pass the PMI-ACP exam. The course will include both experienced and inexperienced individuals, so that less-experienced students may benefit from classroom discussions with their more experienced colleagues.

Creating a Lasting Business LegacyThrough Effective Transition Planning
Most family business owners do not realize that they have only a 30% chance of successfully transferring leadership to the next generation or to a new business owner, and an additional third do not make it to the following generation. There are multiple reasons that such a large percentage of family businesses never realize their founders dreams.
The primary reason is that the family business owner delays planning for a successful transition until it is too late to make the changes that may be needed to realize the full‚ and in some cases, any value of their business.
The secondary reason is that, even if they have started transition planning early enough, the planning that has been done inadequately addresses the nine key factors that must be incorporated to ensure a successful transition to the next generation or to the next owner.
This half-day seminar will help participants:
- Understand the potential costs of not developing a comprehensive transition plan
- Know when to start their transition planning with adequate time to implement a successful transition
- Know what decisions have to be made and when to make them
- Identify the key advisors their business requires for a successful transition
- Ensure their transition plan addresses all the areas and actions required
- Understand the roles of the advisory team that will be needed
Plans are underway to develop a series of seminars on Family Business Transition planning beginning Fall 2018.
Curriculum would include:
- Succession Planning & Family Dynamics
- Preparing your Successor
- Business Sustainability
- Managing Wealth
- Creating an Effective Exit Plan
- And much more…

This interactive, innovative course focuses on both theory and practical application of story-based curriculum and how it is applicable to Common Core standards. All humans are storytellers. Stories are the way we make meaning of our lives. This participatory approach to learning engages students by accessing the meaningful context provided by stories to support a variety of learning strategies. This pedagogy combines the theories and practices of Narrative Psychology, Constructivism and Storytelling.
Story-based learning invites educators to utilize prior knowledge, engage in experiences and create new ways of incorporating stories into all disciplines.
Story-based learning has four guiding principles:
- Every student and teacher has a powerful story.
- Story-based curriculum helps students to think critically, creatively and reflectively.
- Stories build community in the classroom.
- Stories transcend disciplines, cut across cultural boundaries and promote student engagement.
Teachers will:
- Engage in questioning their role as story makers and storytellers.
- Study various learning theories and effective teaching strategies in relation to story-based learning.
- Learn how to incorporate this flexible teaching model and create supplemental materials to support Common Core standards.
- Develop strategies to shift classroom practice from static and inert to engaged and meaningful.
