About the DepartmentThe department of Post-Graduate Studies & Research in Industrial Chemistry established by University of Mysore way back in 1973. The department of Industrial Chemistry has been harnessing precious human resources for the overall development of society through the pursuit for
excellence in the area of chemical sciences. The department, apart from its main tasks of involving itself in academic, teaching and research has been also periodically interacted and established a mutually benecial relationship with the nearby industries and institutions. In this direction, the department has initiated several programs like, taking up Industry sponsored projects involving testing and analysis of raw materials and products, encouraging students to take up projects related to their studies to acquire work experience, inviting executives and technical staff of the industries as Resource person.
The department has produced 120 Ph.D.'s and 15 M.Phil. degree, and more than 350 research papers have been published in reputed National/International journals with a citation of 5204 and h-index in the range 8-32. At present the number of research scholars registered for the Ph.D. programme in the department is 45. As part of the University Institute Interaction the department staff and students got trained in research organizations like BARC, IISc., IIT, etc., The Department has received many research projects funded by UGC, NRB, DST, BRNS and for the rst time in India the department has started M-Tech course in Nanoscience and Technology sponsored by Nano-mission, DST. The department has its own training and placement unit to guide the students for higher education and to acquire jobs in industries.
Every year the department is organizing Seminars, Symposia, Workshops or Conferences to provide a platform for scientists and Industrialists to discuss for mutual benet. The department has received the BEST DEPARTMENT AWARD from Kuvempu University in the academic year 2007-08 for its outstanding contribution to the academic and research activities.
About the University
A place like none other
Kuvempu University is a young afliating University in Karnataka, established in 1987, it is a university with a distinctive academic prole, blending in itself commitment to rural ethos and a modern spirit. The main campus is in the lap of lush, picturesque locale providing the right ambience for university education. Indeed, Kuvempu University is a place one would love to be associated with.
Unpolluted and Serene: The location
Kuvempu University is 275 km away from the Bengaluru, the
capital city of Karnataka. Jnana Sahyadri, the main campus of

Shivamogga, Bhadravathi and Tarikere towns are close to the campus and are well connected by rail.
About the ConferenceChemistry is a broad science, embracing the concepts of creation of molecules and the manipulation of atoms and dealing with microscopic and macroscopic scales. It covers interact ions wi th p lants , animals and humans through a g r i c u l t u r e , b i o l o g y a n d medicine and with the physical world through electronics, new building materials and new sources of energy. It affects the
people of our planet, protecting and preserving our health, ecology, culture and heritage. While chemistry is a science in its own right, it also support and interact with other scientic disciplines. In concert with b io logy , phys ics , medic ine , materials science and other core
disciplines, it makes effective contributions to the solutions of problems facing the world today and to the improvement of the condition of mankind tomorrow- a fundamental basis for a modern society. The chemical industry has initiated programmes for this specic purpose which has achieved success in stimulating collaborative R&D projects.
Chemistry & the FutureIn the near future, chemistry is going to create materials with extraordinary properties - as yet undreamed of - which will dramatically improve communications, healthcare, environmental monitoring and transport. Chemistry will stimulate and support innovation in all of the other branches of science and technology.
In this context, the Department of Industrial Chemistry, Kuvempu University is organizing Two Day National Conference on "Recent Advances in Chemical Biology and Material Science for Industry and Society" (RACBMS -2018) on February 9 and 10, 2018. The conference provides a platform to a diverse community of professional from academia and industry to come together and share the information, research ndings and practical experiences.
Thrust AreasThe research articles are invited for oral/poster presentation involving Chemical Sciences in the following area:Chemical BiologyEnvironmental ScienceNatural ChemistryGreen ChemistryNon-Conventional Energy SourcesCatalysis, Material SciencePharmaceutical Sciences.
