ProDyne FAQs
Benefits of ProDyne vs. Detergent

Softens Hard Water
One of ProDyne’s active ingredients is negatively
charged, which allows it to bind to positively charged
hard water minerals such as calcium, iron and
magnesium. In large quantities, hard water minerals can
delay the hydration of ProDrill, which can lead to an
increase in mixing time and may require higher dosages.
By binding the hard water minerals, ProDyne results in
faster hydration times and potentially lower dosages of
ProDrill.
Does Not Foam
ProDyne is also a non-foaming detergent. High foam
density in tanks can cause difficulty mixing and
controlling other mud additives, and affects the
consistency of returns.
Cost Equivalent to Traditional Dish Soaps
When comparing customer costs, ProDyne is virtually
equivalent on cost (within $.01/fluid ounce of traditional
dish soaps), meaning customers get the additional
benefits of ProDyne at a comparable price.
Do I always need to use ProDyne when running ProDrill?
No, ProDyne is necessary when low density, sticky soil
material that wants to cling to rods and tooling are present.
ProDyne is compatible with all ProAction products so it can
be run as needed with any ProAction mud mix.
Can ProDyne be used to create a foam?
No, ProDyne is non-foaming. Contact your local distributor
for information on ProAction Fluids’ ProFoam product.
Will ProDyne freeze?
ProDyne will turn to slush at temperatures below 20°F. This
does not affect the performance, and it will fully activate
when introduced into a fluid system. 3

It is common practice in the HDD industry to use detergents to
keep tooling clean in sticky soils. However, many of these de-
tergents (including traditional dish soap) have one purpose:
removing solid material from surfaces. ProDyne also acts as a
detergent “builder” and water softener. Builders upgrade and
protect the cleaning efficiency of soaps by acting as an inter-
face between hard water minerals and surfaces.

products…you will get
