Production Activity E: The Pitch

My new game show ‘Fiction Fans Forever’ will be targeted at teenagers aged 13-17 and adults 18-40 that are interested in fiction TV shows. Teenagers are known for a large use of social media which makes it easier for them to interact with the game show.

‘Fiction Fans Forever’ will require teenage contestants to answer questions on a selected fiction TV show. The contestants will be aware of the 5 fiction TV shows that they could possibly be quizzed on but will only find out during the game show. They will be 3 rounds in total, the first 2 rounds will have 10 questions worth 1 point each and the final round will have 4 questions worth 4 points each. Contestants gain points when they answer the question correctly and every 2 points they gain results in 1 star. However, if they answer wrong then they will be made to do a challenge and lose a star. This keeps the audience engaged as teenagers will enjoy seeing some action. Contestants will answer the questions using an iPad pro instead of a standard red button. The contestant with the most stars at the end of the rounds wins the prize which will be signed merchandise of the fiction TV show that they were quizzed on. This gives ‘Fiction Fans Forever’ a USP as it does not offer the typical game show prize of money and uses technology that most teenagers own so the audience will be intrigued to see what merchandise they get from their favourite fiction TV shows.

The set of ‘Fiction Fans Forever’ will use the colour palette of bright colours as it will stand out and engage with teenagers. Brightly coloured seats will be around the stage so that viewers can watch the game show live. Coloured spotlights will be on the stage at all times except they’ll dim down when the contestants are being asked a question to create a dramatic atmosphere in order to intrigue the audience. A large screen will be on stage for the host to present the question on rather than reading a question off a card. Also the walls and floor will be a screen that will project the same thing as the large screen on the stage so that the audience can clearly see. This will appeal to the audience as it uses a range of technology in contrast to other game shows.

The host will be a young man and women that will use a humorous tone in order to entertain the audience as having a serious atmosphere would be less appealing to teenagers. Having both genders presenting the game show will subvert the stereotypical view of a male normally presenting the game show, therefore making it more appealing to teenage girls and women. The contestants will be teenagers and adults that can apply online through the ‘Fiction Fans Forever’ website. This allows the audience to interact with the game show by being allowed to be in it. Having a range of teenage and adult contestants would be more appealing as audiences would be more willing to watch their own age group compete.

The scheduling of my game show ‘Fiction Fans Forever’ will be in the evening on the commercial channel ITV at 6pm and last for an hour till 7pm. It will be on Fridays and Saturdays as teenagers do not have school the next day and would be convenient for adults who work in the daytime so they will be more able to watch the show which makes it more appealing.
