GRANULE SPREADER
The MG 10 Granule Spreader fromMaruyama applies seed, fertilizer, or otherdry chemicals to small areas simply and effi-ciently. The spreader provides uniform dis-tribution over an 18-foot-wide range. A pat-tern can be set for the left or right side orfor full 180-degree coverage. The hopperholds the dry equivalent of nearly threegallons.
The MG 10 has a ten-position adjustabledischarge volume and tank agitator toeliminate clumps or jamming. Its lightweight,chest-carry design is convenient for unevenor difficult terrain where ground-drivenspreaders can't traverse. It's also handy forspot seeding or treating tees, worn areasof athletic fields and banks around lakesand rivers.MARUYAMA U.S., INC.Circle 153 on Postage Free Card

WEATHER STATION
Water management is more precise withBuckner's Model 39760 Weather Station. The key is the calculation of a referenceevapotranspiration rate (ETo). Tied to a PC-type computer through a communicationcable, it can be used in conjunction withBuckner's COPS irrigation controller pro-gram to analyze the required station runtimes to satisfy turf or agricultural irrigationrequirements,
Not only does the weather station pro-vide the necessary information from the
--.-wironment to properly calculate ETo, butit stores the data and provides average
weather data on a daily, monthly and yearlyformat.
Up to four weather stations can be oper-ated from one system. Readings are takenone every minute, averaged every hour andrecorded in a daily log within the memoryof the weather station.
Special features include a rain gauge thatallows recording of rainfall each day. Theweather station is mounted on a steel, zincplated, powder coated pedestal with a fullaccess door for convenient installation andeasy service.BUCKNERCircle 155 on Postage Free Card
DEEP AERATORThe Model 105.145 Verti-Drain alleviates
the most difficult soil compaction problems.Penetration to a depth of 16 inches is pos-sible; according to the manufacturer, thisis more than two-and-a-half times deeperthan other aerators on the market today.
The units, which are powered by the PTOof a Category lor II tractor, are capable ofaerating up to four acres a day. Verti-Draincontinuously drives solid or hollow coringtines into the soil to depths ranging fromtwo inches to 16 inches. The rugged, patented design permits the tines to moveback and forth, creating a "lifting" effect tothe soil. This action combines penetrationthrough the soil pan for vertical drainagewith the shattering effect of the compactedlayers for thorough aeration. The overallresult is a greatly improved soil environmentthat allows deeper, healthier root systems.
Verti-Drain works well in all types of soilsand in a wide range of applications, includinggolf courses, parks and playgrounds, racetracks, cemeteries, sod farms, tennis courtsand athletic fields.ENVIRONMENTAL MARKETING INTERNA TlONALCircle 156 on Postage Free Card

KENTUCKY BLUEGRASSA moderately low-growing turf-type Ken-
tucky bluegrass with improved diseaseresistance and drought tolerance will be mar-keted this fall by three midwestern seed com-panies. Developed under a joint breedingprogram with Rutgers University and JacklinSeed, Freedom Kentucky bluegrass has amedium-green color with exceptional colorretention in cool weather and a healthy early-spring color.
Capable of producing an aggressive turfof medium-fine texture and moderately highdensity, Freedom has demonstrated excel-lent resistance to stem rust, melting out andred thread. It has also shown goodresistance to leaf rust and dollar spot. It alsoexhibits strong tolerance to drought.
Freedom is well-suited for use in blendswith other well-adapted persistent cultivarsof Kentucky bluegrass. Desirable mixturesmay also contain improved turf-type peren-nial ryegrasses, strong creeping red fescues,and/or improved turf-type tall fescues. Theseblends and mixtures are recommended foruse on parks, athletic fields, institutionalgrounds, golf courses and school play areasin regions where Kentucky bluegrass is well-adapted for turf use.
Freedom will be marketed by Vaughan'sSeed Co., Downers Grove, IL; BeckmannTurf and Irrigation Co., Chesterfield, MO;and Arkansas Valley Seed, Denver, CO.VAUGHAN'S SEED COMPANY COMPANYCircle 152 on Postage Free Card

DISEASE DETECTION KITAgri-Diagnostics has developed simple
kits which sports turf managers can use todetect the likelihood of three leading turfdiseases, brown patch, dollar spot andPythium blight.
While the kits are easy to use, they arebased upon a complex scientific reactionbetween disease organisms present in the
turf and antibodies produced by plants tofight them. The company has reduced alaboratory procedure down to a simple litmustest in which a test strip is inserted into asolution of ground-up turfgrass tissue. Asmall meter is used to read the darknessof the strip to reveal the level of fungi present.
Repeated during the growing season, thetest can warn the turf manager when fun-gicide applications should be made orrepeated. It can also report when applica-tions are not necessary saving both timeand money. It allows turf managers to makemore timely and accurate disease manage-ment decisions, which would enhance thebenefits of fungicides and slow the develop-ment of resistant strains of fungi.
