Internal lacing gives a reassuring feel, and they’re superbly well ventilated. The top is adjustable for different leathers. Light and nice to walk in. Less ankle rigidity control than similar SM-X Plus, but £80 cheaper.

A great-value boot that you can choose to have vented or waterproof for £20 more. Took a little while for the microtech – a man-made material that’s lighter than leather – to break in, but once it did they’re comfortable to wear and walk in (although the waterproof version is thick for a summer boot). On the bike, the huge plastic ankle and rear protection can get caught on the heel guard. Metal toe sliders are big and unlikely to wear out. Good for wide feet or getting thick socks in. Excellent value.

As comfortable on as off the bike. Only flimsy ankle articulation lets the protection down. Easy to get on and off, and well made, they instantly feel comfortable. Available vented or unvented, these are excellent all-round summer boots.
Ankle control good but sticks out and snags Zip is short but Velcro gives adjustment
