Microprocessor-based Protection Relays

SYMAP®ProductOverviewSYMAP® is a flexible microprocessor-based digital protection and control device for use in low,medium,andhigh-voltagepowersystems.Becauseofitsintegratedprotectionfunctionsandhuman-machine interface capabilities, it is an efficient and cost-effective solution for all types ofswitchgears.With threepowerfulmicroprocessors, SYMAP®offers completeprotectionand controlfunctions for generators,motors (synchronous and asynchronous), transformers, power lines, anddistributions.Allprotectionfunctionscanbeactivatedsimultaneously,andtherearenolimitsinusingallofthematthesametime.WithSYMAP®,fivemainbreakercontrolscanbeactivatedwithallthenecessaryfunctions,suchasdisplay, control, and blocking, for optimal breaker management. A small integrated PLC allowsindividualinterlocksofcontrolcommands.Forflexibilityincommissioningandduringuse,bothdigitalandanalogoutputscanbeusedtoconnecttheSYMAP®controlunittomainswitchboardcontrols.Additionally, a variety of serial interfaces with different kinds of data protocols can be used forcommunicationbetweenSYMAP®unitsandthecentralcontrolsystem.Fordiagnosticsandmonitoring,SYMAP®hasthreemicroprocessorswhichsuperviseeachother,andprovidingawatchdogsystem.Importantfunctionsarelaidoutinadoubleredundancycombination,operatingindependentlywiththesecondprocessor.Connectedseparately,anoptionalunitforshortcircuitprotectionoperatesparalleltotheSYMAP®deviceandwilldosoevenifthepowersupplyfails.

SYMAP®HumanMachineInterface

SYMAP®iseasytoprogramandoperate.AlargegraphicLCDwithoptionalLEDindicatorsconveysimportantdata,suchaspositionofallconnectedbreakers,parametersettings,andeventhistory,ataglance.Graphicsandmeasurementdataaredisplayedside-by-sideontheLCD,andtheuserdoesnothavetoswitchbetweenpages.Theprogrammingisbuiltinandismenu-treedriven,makingsettingparametersanintuitiveprocess.Besidetheoptionofdoingthewholedeviceconfigurationbyapplicationsoftware“SYMAPParameterTool(SPT)”,itispossibletosetallavailableparametersbythekeysofthefrontpanel.Usingalaptopofferscertainadvantages,suchasparameterdatastoredinthelaptopcanbeeasilyinputintootherSYMAP®units.Eitherway,easeofprogrammingisguaranteedandon-sitevisitsbythemanufacturer'sengineersduringcommissioningarenotrequired.SYMAP®providesfourhotkeysundertheLCDofferingaccesstofourgroupsofvalues: - Meters - Alarm - Process - BreakerControlTheusercanpressthehotkeystoscrollthroughpagesofinformationpertainingtothesevalues.Underthehotkey"Meters,"detailedinformationofelectricmeasurementvalues,countersforactiveandreactivepower,andworkinghoursisprovided.Byrthehotkey"Alarms,"allactivealarms,eventstores,andblockingsaredisplayed.Under"Process,"allprocessdata,suchassynchronizationdisplay,motorthermalindication,andbreakercounters,areshown.Under"BreakerControl,"uptofivebreakerscanbeaccessedandcontrolled.Whenprogrammingbreakercontrols,theuserhasaccesstovariouslayoutconfigurationswhichareavailablethroughalibraryofgraphicsmaintainedwithinSYMAP®.Programmedblockingsremainactivewhenmanualcontrolofthebreakerisused.Furthermore,eachofthehighlightedbreakersintheLCDcanbecontrolledbythekeys"O"and"I."Forsecuritypurpose,accesstoSYMAP®'sparametersandbreakercontroldataofSYMAP®isprotectedbyacodesystem.Thecodesystemoffersdualaccess:byatranspondercardorbypasswordinput. AllconnectionstoSYMAP®aremadewithterminalplugsonthebackofthedevice,allowingthedevicetobeexchangedeasily.Theterminalblocksaredividedintofourgroups.
