DIGIPAK This is the digipak cover for Katy Perry’s album. It is

immediately evident that she is a pop artist, as the pastel colours and the candy theme instantly connote this genre. The images on the sides of the digipak are provocative as the artist is not wearing many clothes which highlights her attempt to capture male attention and therefore wider her audience base. Females would be instantly drawn to the album as it includes many ‘feminine’ colours including pink, light blue and red. The constant candy theme emphasises the artist as being fun and quirky and therefore captures the audience. The top image shows the artist in a pink glittery dress and a crown, connoting a fairy tale/princess image which again attracts a female audience and adds to the feel of a ‘pop’ genre. The candy theme is evident on the actual CD disks as well as they have been made to look like edible treats, and the fun patterns highlight the artist’s personality.

WEBSITE

The artists name is immediately brought to the audience’s attention as it is a bright red, bold colour which is eye catching and connotes a sense of passion and intimacy, which the artist is using to connect with his fans. “Unorthodox Jukebox” is another large piece of text on the page as it is trying to promote the artist’s new album as soon as the audience enter the website. It says “click here to buy” which demonstrates this further. The options along the side allow the audience to keep up to date with everything the artist has done and is doing, which is a good way for his fans to make sure they don’t miss anything. The options for social media highlight that the artist is using these platforms in order to be accessible to the audience, and allows the audience and the artist to create a personal relationship. The search bar allows the audience to find whatever they are looking for immediately without having to navigate around the whole website to find it. The use of the video helps to promote the artist’s tour as it gives the audience a taster of what they could expect to see and hear if they were to attend.

MAGAZINE ADVERTThe image is a close up of the artist's face with a glittery outline, which conveys her as mystical and creates a sense of enigma about her. This may reflect on her music itself in that it has a magical and enchanted vibe to it. The image is full bleed which highlights her significance and importance as an artist to the audience. The colours throughout the piece are mainly gold and black. Gold signifies royalty, wealth and luxury whilst black conveys mystery. The typography is that of a unique font with the 'E' and 'G' in her name curved to allow for a more natural and flowing feel. The smaller text is used to promote the album showing ratings that have been included from respected newspapers and magazines such as 'The Independent' and 'Q Magazine' of 4 and 5 stars which offers a credibility to the work and may encourage audiences to purchase the album. Additionally, a quote is seen from a music based magazine stating that the album is, 'A staggering achievement,' with a 4 star rating. This emphasises further that the album is truly respected and worth investing in. The website of the artist is placed below these reviews for the public who may want to find out more about the artist. The record company symbol is shown at the bottom of the advertisement. This is not completely necessary information however the audience might like to know incase they are fans of other artists from the same label, or recognise the label as successful. The logo also acts as a formality in connecting the artist to her record contract which is shown for legislation purposes.
