Founded in 1963, Marling leek is the UK’s foremost manufacturer of webbing used in both the commercial and automotive markets. based in the traditional textile town of leek in staffordshire, it was Marling leek that developed and manufactured the first automotive seatbelt, and continued this innovative drive to pioneer the one-piece woven airbag.

Today we have a wide range of webbing types available,

including webbing for lifting, load restraint, height safety,

automotive and aviation. The applications for webbing use

are extensive.

Since 1942, the Marling Mills factory has been producing textiles and became Marling Leek in 1963. After an entrepreneur teamed up with local dye works, the factory began to produce narrow fabric webbing. 30 years later during the 1990s, safety legislation became increasingly important and the introduction of the rear seatbelt lead to the expansion of Marling Leek.

Flat Slings

We take our responsibity to manufacture a high quality product very seriously and we are proud to hold the Quality Assurance Accreditation ISO 9001, which is continually verified externally by BSI.

All products are uniquely batch identified and extensively verified at all stages of manufacture, using the latest inspection and testing equipment, to ensure conformity to all legislative and customer specific requirements. As the nature of our products is safety critical, we insist on rigorous QA in order to satisfy ourselves that all products leaving our facility have met all requirements.

To satisfy the most stringent and critical requirements for our webbing performance, we utilise the most up to date testing equipment within our QA laboratory.

Our equipment includes:

• Up to 150kN computer controlled tensile equipment for both yarn and webbing testing and verification.

• Datacolor® spectrometer for computer controlled colour assessment and colour matching.

• Dedicated Shade Assessment Room, complete with Datacolor® Light Cabinet for shade assessment.

• Large 300kN hydraulic test machine for flat sling, round sling and load restraint testing.

• Colour fastness crock meters to verify colour / rub fastness.

• A series of abrasion and life cycle testing machinery including Hexbar.

• An environmental conditioning cabinet that enables us to achieve highly reproducible colour assessments by eliminating colour differences that result from temperature and humidity variations, regardless of location.

Our flat sling webbing is manufactured from 100% high tenacity polyester webbing (PES). Our suggested end-use of our flat sling products cover sling types from single, duplex, endless and quadplex constructions. As well as flat sling webbing, we can also produce eye protection.

• To identify the lifting capacity of flat sling webbing clearly, each capacity in the EN 1492/1-2 has a specific colour and a stripe to represent each tonne.

Our round sling sleeves are very versatile, and made from single ply polyester tubing as standard up to 10T. We also manufacture Techlon sleeve, which is a firmly woven sleeve made with monofilament yarn. The strong weave makes it highly resistant to abrasion.

• Standard round sling webbing made for <10T systems

• Techlon round sling webbing can be made for <40T systems

All of our webbing made for lashing purposes are manufactured from 100% polyester and obtain low elongation properties versus polypropylene substitutes.

Lashing webbing is available in a variety of widths (25mm, 50mm and 75mm) to satisfy a wide range of applications including load restraint products like belts and straps. We can also manufacture to a specific colour, tenacity and thickness.

Our webbing has been extensively tested to suit applications in the height safety industry. Products including safety harnesses and lanyards for example can be manufactured according to various technical options.

Our height safety webbing has been extensively tested to provide 10 years usage from date of manufacture. The results show that the breaking loads on our webbing are between 85-98% of their original value, against the minimum requirement of 70%. Have peace of mind that our extensive testing ensures you get an optimum safe product.

• We have a variety of different height safety webbings available including water repellent, elasticated, anti-static, glow-in-the-dark and bi-colours.

• Webbing is also available in a wide range of colours, widths, tenacity and thickness.
