The Florida Department of Transportation is an agency dedicated to developing and maintaining the state’s transportation system. The Department is responsible for the development, design, construction and maintenance of the highways and provides financial and technical assistance to rail, air, and public transportation systems. The services and commodities most often purchased by this Department are: road materials, construction materials, metals, janitorial supplies, safety supplies, electrical and plumbing supplies, mechanical tools, hand tools, hardware supplies, chemicals, herbicides, fertilizer, motor vehicles, aircraft, watercraft, heavy equipment, equipment repair, automotive supplies, computers, computer apparatus, office equipment, office furniture, office supplies, scientific testing equipment and supplies, printing and reproduction, law enforcement and toll collectors’ uniforms, petroleum products, communications equipment and supplies, engineering equipment and supplies, photographic equipment and supplies, film and film processing, repair and maintenance of equipment such as typewriters, calculators, cameras, audio and video equipment, keys and installation of locks, lab equipment and supplies, and rental of equipment. The Department also, on occasion, purchases services such as pest control, cleaning, janitorial, temporary services, electricians, and painting.
