“IDENTITY COLLECTION”(make a collection of what you think ra-

presents you, your identity)

Who am I? This was a really tough question for me to answer. My reason was I couldn’t decide between all the many small things that, I believe, make me; medical beliefs, trying to bring happieness, beliefs, statements, tradition, life experiences, passions and so on. Therefore I concluded to narrow it down to;my reaserch and interest of colours in nature, the belief that contrasts have to cohexist in order to bring balance, the hope to help people live a better life. I express these 3 parts of my identities in form, material, colour and utility. Infact if you carefully try the socks on, you will feel Chinese feet points points connected to Western stress related areas of you body; neck, shoulders, lower back and head temples. This piece on its own rapresents my will to better your life and the belief that even contrasting cultures should cohexist. The rest is all to see, toutch and try.

October 5Alla Bykova10/5, 3:27pmOk so here is the original flower-shaded teapot and cup coaster set, buuuut I think it would be hard for u to make, but If u accept the challenge, then go ahead. Oh and u don't have to color it if u don't want or u don't have materials. It doesn't have to be exact color either

Alla Bykova10/5, 3:29pmand here is alternative, which I think is a bit easier to make- a pizza coaster, which u also don't have to paint, but make sure u indicate where the "crust" starts so it looks more like a pizza

Alla Bykova10/5, 3:31pmgood luck!

“World Networks” is a proposal for a Network related application. The focus is to bring people from far away countries, closer together. By filling their maps therefore expanding their network. Each user

can personalise its own map; customizing your own ledgend (colour, notes, writings position, font and size). For example, why not decide to expand your network on the basis of the food you like to eat? Or the provenience of the music you listen to? The objective is to con-

nect, through the map, with other users who share your passions and who will possibly be at the other side of the world. Here I present to

you my personal “World Network” filled with my own concepts.

“CAN YOU DRAW ME A MAP?”(meeting with a stranger)

S O C I A L

Page 57: Process book, Jackie Barbareschi

MAPS ANALYSIS

- Analysing the “drawings – as drawings” -

Conclusions : - Posture (sitting/stanging/kneeling…) changes the handwriting of people - Paper influences the direction of the drawing (lines, square or plain paper) - Small and quick drawings are usually from people who have less time then

people who make big and detailed drawings. - Many interest points are marked by geometric shapes

(circles/squares/rectangles…) - People drawing in couples were influenced by each others drawings - Showing examples of other maps also influences how people draw their maps - Man and women have different hand writings - People draw points of interest in the same way even though differently of course

(rail ways, stop lights, the street center line ( - - - -), squares for houses) - Many people started on the edge of the paper - People who made more minimal drawings were more “self-centered” ; they

didn’t care if you understood the road directions. The ones drawing more details were taking care that the other person could find their way in the map.

- Everyone has its own handwriting, impossible to find two who are the same - People who didn’t click with you didn’t draw as much details and for a long time. - Interest points are very subjective

Remarks : - Some people write numbers to indicate interest points - Some people draw small drawings, some other occupy the whole page - Many people wrote on their drawings when asked to mention the interest points - Many people start by drawing their house; many of them also put a triangle roof

on top of their house but don’t draw one on other buildings. - Some people like to draw suns; is it depending on the weather? - Some people draw the direction to take with arrows, others draw the whole map

and surroundings, even the roads you don’t have to take - Some people specified the transportation method (bike/car/bus…)

- A place that is accessible for every one, wheel chairs, - Strong research in restroom aspects; textiles, fabrics, materials, shape - Come up with an end product

Signatures of J.A.M CEO’s : Date:____________________ ________________________________ ________________________________ ________________________________

PRIVACY:- Closed toilet

ECO SUSTAINABLE:- Water from rain in toilets- Recycled tp- Motion related energy supply

COLOUR REASERCH:

- BLUE AND METAL make COLD- RED AND WOOD make WARM- RED AND METAL make “Luxurious Chique”- BLUE AND WOOD make “Suttel Chiqe”- DARK colours make space more CLOSED- LIGHT colours make space more OPEN

HYGENE: - Dark toilets: When toilets are white they look more dirty- A toilet that is easy to clean (flat surfaces)- Toilet “german”: no water splash in your but/vagina better for health; control of bowel system, easier to clean- Sanitary spray box or German system of turning toilet seat- Flush with foot not with hand- -

Public ideas

- toilets should have toilet freshener- offer enough hygienic stuff in the restrooms (also for women, like tampons etc.- German system, they have Sanifair- step (small chair) or small toilet for kids- restroom for women’s has a special place which you can make up- have a baby keeper for mama in the wc.- more fresheners and could get cleaned more often- some art on the walls and doors- Have different heights in toilets- No yellow stones

Public opinions

- I don’t think they’re always really clean

ets- Public restrooms mostly are places that aren’t

really nice- I often don’t have any change. But paying for

it is nonsense anyway. In other countries it’s free

“out of the box” IDEAS:

Why not hang art you can buy at the toilet? 1000 of artists are out there looking for a way to make their art exposed. If you pay a small fee at a lady you get

a wonderful service and you get to see some art paintings that you can also purchase? Unconventio-

nal artists or jobless ones would get a job and people would have a nicer atmosphere.

Public RestroomsJUSTIN V/D SWALUW, STUDENT, 22 YEARS

Handy and necessary, as long as they’re clean. They could be cleaner.

RISKA, AU PAIR, 23 YEARSIt’s not really bad, sometimes I put a lot of paper on the toilet seats to

make sure it’s clean enough before I use it. How would I improve them? What I think is that some toilets should have toilet freshener. More clean is just basic for public restrooms. The colour is just fresher, I think gree-

nish colour would make public restroom user feel more comfort.

MANON DONKERSLOOT, STUDENT, 20 YEARSI don’t think they’re always really clean and hygienic. Next to that it

always seems very low-budget, so bad quality toilet paper etc. Sometimes they don’t work well either. I never go to public restrooms. An improve-

ment could be to keep it cleaner and offer enough hygienic stuff in the restrooms (also for women, like tampons etc.).

MAXIME DE ROOIJ, STUDENT, 19 YEARSHygiene is really bad ad public restrooms. They could look at the German

system, they have Sanifair and those toilets are always really clean.

AYAKA UENO, INTEGRATINGI don’t like automatic restroom at the station because dark and a bit wet

after washed automatically. At the store is okay but it’s more sweet for small kids if they had a step (small chair) or small toilet for kids. I think I can show some Japanese public toilet’s picture. I’m going to search. Ba-sically toilet is free in JP, you don’t have to pay. Almost all large shopping

store or city office has a special toilet for handicap people like this.

Handicapped toilet in Japan Ostomate

Usually public toilet has a special toilet for small kids and mother like this. This is kind of standard, you can find like this even in countryside.

Toilets for kids in Japan

And in shopping mall, usually restroom for women’s has a special place which tou can make up like thi

s.

Make up places.

And also inside the toilet at the fashion building or airport they often has a step which you can use for changing clothes like this. You can stand on

that board and change your pants without touch the toilet floor.

They also have a baby keeper for mama in the wc.

And typical Japanese, called ‘washlet’ water from toilet and you can wash your pipi and toilet chair is always verwarmed. Looks crazy maybe.

LINDA DECKERS, 49 YEARSThey’re boring and without any colour and mostly not really clean and

fresh. They could use more fresheners and could get cleaned more often. Easy to clean toilets and some art on the walls and doors, maybe kind of

We greeted her with a box of chocolates. To begin with we had a little “koetjes en kalvjes” talk, and quickly the mood became even more informal and relaxed. We had to establish group dynamics but eventually we were all a team. Soon after we were visiting the working places where we met Raymond (repair man) and Peter (cabinet cleaner). We were also able to interview them, giving us many ideas to improve all the aspects of the Dixie. We filmed everything, recorded, took pictures and notes. Everyone was so pleased to see 3 young ladies and it all went as smooth as it could be. We also received gifts from them, a piggy bank in a shape of Dixi and a usb stick also in a shape of a Dixi. When we told Hester she was invited the 5th of December, she unfortunately told us she couldn’t participate for “Sinterklaas” however she will virtually be with us, online via

skype. Hesther and the workers want to be updated with our future plans and gave us their best wishes.

A light that changes intensity depending on how you’re feeling. Regulated by the intensity of your heart. When you feel stressed and look at your monitor and see (eg) 110 bpm = dim the lights and oppoitely

Regulate your lights from your watch clock, wich monitors your heart beat.

Why a watch clock? Why not a necklece; also more connected and related to heart?

Why i sit not connectet to each light switch?- Design a light switch that looks like a natural shape which fits your whole hand.- Revolutionise the way of turning on lights- A much more “natural” gesture- A shape that reflects this connection to us, to nature, tu our surrounding

SUBJECTIVE As I gently walk into the square just behind school, I’m a mouse inside a rectangular shaped box with no lid on. The buildings are surrounding me and they are so tall they give pressure from above. My vision is limited and looking beyond these buildings is all I want to do. To know what is after those buildings, to know how the landscape looks like. They are very tall animals, so tall your arms cant reach them and neither can your view. It’s just like being in a laby-rinth where you can’t see over the walls, you can go round them to see what comes after but at a risk of getting lost. It’s life metaphor. This, I don’t know whymakes me feel curious and frustrated. However when I stop concentrating on what is beyond those buildings, I look down, and see a beautiful fountain filled with peaceful vibrations, illuminated by direct, warm, cozy sunlight. I walk towards it, like a tired antilope reaching the water it needs. I hear the zen like noise of the water which makes my mind doze off for a couple of minutes, before i unfortunately have to leave to go work again. OBJECTIVE I walk left as i exit the school and then immediately left again. The sun is shining and there’s a small number of clouds in the air. Around me i’m surrounded by tall, grey, square buil-dings.The majority of the area is covered in shadow giving the place a colder look. The areas that instead are enlightened reflect the sun back into your eyes.Im on my own but around me there are students i know and we recognize each others faces by exchanging a smile.I walk towards the sunlight to catch some sun light, intaking the vitamins of the sun. The light is so strong i have to put my sun glasses, like others did too.I relax for a while and enjoy the sun until i am finally forced to leave because more work is attending me.

Short AutoBiography

My name is Jackie Barbareschi. I was born in Italy the 21st of November, 1992. I have two sisters who are 9 and 10 years older than me, and yes we are from the same Mother and Father. Both my parents are Ita-lian but all 3 of us attended International Schools in order to learn English as second mother tongue. I grew up between Rome Milan and Varese (countryside). Since I the European School of Varese I had a lucky chance to learn Spanish and advanced French. This is a great advantage in respect to the average Italian person, as you don’t find many Italians who speak French English Spanish and a bit of Dutch. After all Italy celebrated 150 years of unity just a couple of years ago! When I moved to Milan I was 7-8 years old. There I was finally able to spend more time with my cousins. Every weekend we would go to the countryside in Varese all together and pass intensive weekends. Children develop creativity when they play and the years playing with my cousins were the most creative ye-ars of all. We had the luck to grow up playing in a 4 hectare garden, one can only imagine how four 8 year old children could feel! Days and nights spent building, making, acting, singing, jumping, exploring, role playing, adventuring, eating what nature gives, smelling the earth, tasting the alpine air. How I miss those days…! Even though everything was fun and perfect in weekends, during the week I was always reminded of how “stupid” I was. My issues with spelling and mathematics always made me believe I wasn’t intelligent. It took me many years to understand how limited the academic system is. In these years I was also subcon-sciously translating this anger in art; drawings, photography, writing statements and inventions (like for instance constantly asking my self “why does THIS work in one way rather than another other way?”) I am now still battling my small personal wars; issues with my dad, issues with my country’s political views, issues with my boyfriend, issues with money, and so on. However , as I strongly believe in the concept of “Yantra” (opposites completing each other), my personal wars have always helped me to never settle. To always battle for the best, the best in everything; best ideas, best quality, reaching the top of the top, wanting to be at the top, but also to question… why? And like a little child annoying its parents with an ever ending “why?” to every explanation, I lead my life sometimes annoying my self, being my own parent and curious child. Why did I choose design? Exactly for all of these reasons. Not only because I was/am obsessed to play Sims 3 only in build mode, but of course because I need find the answers. From finding a solution to what I believe is generally unfair to improving an already existing object. From choosing the correct lighting to building a correct light.

“where the hell did i put it?”, said Jackie while lifting the news papers off the table

She could vividly remember placing the light bulb on the wooden dining table yet she couldn’t find it. It was almost thirty minutes since she first started searching and her temperament was really starting to rise. The house was so tidy, there weren’t many places where it could be, and she absolutely looked everywhere! Even beneath a pile of newspapers where obviously it couldn’t have been under.

“Did it seriously walk away on its own feet?”, she started to wonder. “oh my god oh my god oh my god….” whispered the little light bulb.

Little did she know it did, and little did she know it was hiding in a place she would never look. How is that possible you might ask? No one really knows, but yet thats what happens to objects when you’re not loo-king. Yes, exactly like “Toy Story”.

“It’s so cold in here… but if she’ll catch me i’ll die!” he continued in a hasteful tone. “ Die? oh no! This means Bernie died and no one told me!” said the cold and deep voice of the fridge “Yeh.. sorry Alf… just a couple of minutes ago.. Thats why she’s looking for me now… I should be ok until i hide behind

Mondays. The start of the of the week. Painting and Texture. Toughest day for all. I discovered how much I actually love fashion design rela-ted to identity, but also discovered how difficult it is to make a “good” paintings going through moments of chrisis! Thank god Johannes is under-standing and knows how i feel..! The most interesting lesson was when he spoke to us about the colour white. The most amazing thing is that after every lesson you start to look at the world with a different eye...! Whi-te walls suddently become colourful, light values every where, contrasting colours at every corner. Shirley in-stead is so inspiring and very avan-guarde. Sometimes it seems like she has one foot in the present and the other in the next future fashion.. She is always able to give a inspiring suggestions to our works/products. Also here i learnt how difficult silk screen printing is! I thought is was going to be so easy and fun! Howe-ver I eventually found my way to it.

Tuesdays, wood and comunication Even thou-gh David’s lessons are intense! He is a very knowldfulman and he has tought me so much about wood in only a couple months! I wish i could take a “wood” test to pro-ve to him how useful his lessons have been. He basically taught us “wood A to Z”. Unfortunately having said all this, I don’t think I’m likely to work with wood in the future. If I will HAVE to I will have good experience, but it wont be my first choice of material. Sorry David!!! This year Im discovering my qualities, and im so sorry to say wood really doe-sn’t suit my character (for now)! However I will always be able to distinguish a propper wood furniture from a badly as-sembled one. Karin instead really helped me understand about products in relation to the client and the producers. She is so pragmatic! Not only she taught me to reflect upon our own designs, she also taught me a number of practical, business related facts; like how to comunicate to a client and how to understand his or hers capabilities or how to understant our own knowledge of materlais. I always tend to forget she never taught before because she is so enthusiastic of what she teaches, and that is passed to the whole class.

Not much yet to say about wednesdays. Un-fortunatelly Jaqueline, our teacher, was sick. However i was pretty disapointed with the substitute program that was given to us. I was hoping to have a lecture from one of the mothers or fathers who volounteer to come lecture us, even only for 15 minu-tes, but unfortunatelly the history course felt more like a breakfast movie club than a class... I hope this mistake will help the academy to make things different for the next 1st years; I always say we learn from our mistakes... Having said this, I’m happy that Jaquline is ok and the past two lessons have been so intense and fasina-ting! Writing pages and pages of notes as you will see! But the most important in-fluence is Jaquelines passion when she spe-aks to us. She doesn’t simply talk, she in-volves you with her tone of voice. She is also very strong to be able to deal with 150 students at a time! Untill now we’ve had two lessons and they have been so rich . I am slighlt nervous for the writ-ten examination! My last memorie of written exams was when I was in highschool and it was terrible. Even though Art and Art hi-story were the classes I succeded in, the simple concept of exam stresses me out! Im sure i will be ok though; I have no-tes, recorded every lesson, and pictures!

Thursdays, what a team Theo Margot and Wineke. All three with a different but similar appro-ach to life. Very knowlegdeful people, proved by their firm approach. They all have a degree of confidence that makes you trust their opi-nion but the great aspect is how you sence no competition. On the contrary, there is always collaboration, stimulation and interaction. No one is the lead, no one is left out, showing us an great example of what it means to be a propper team. Theo is enthusiastic, sweet and understanding. I recognise so much of my self in him, we’re both very energetic people with strong feelings on our opinions. He helped me so much to understand when to stand back, or when to let some one else answer a question. Him and Wineke’s first excercise of walking around town without saying a word initially made lit-tle sense to me, but i eventually discovered how deep they go in the structure of the human behaviour. Wineke instead is a lot more firm, grounded and sometimes even a bit severe (in a good way)! She always gave me the impression of a majestic lioness, smart, allert, observing, listening. One could think Wineke and Margot would be competing for “the role” of the domi-nant female (my usual refferences to nature of course) but them two, together with Theo, make a fantastic team. Margot is also the best. She teaches us so many technical aspects, and dyna-mics of social interaction. For example what exact , concrete, words to use with a client to introduce your self in the best way possible! This is again one of my favourite subjects.

And finally, last but not least, Fridays! Its the last day of the week, and unfortunatelly school closes at 5..! But i guess you have to adapt! This day i have Coding, Drawing and Wri-ting. Cathlijne is very smart and so young. I once confused her for a student, I was sure it was a student and i was so rude I didnt say hi to her or anything and after 20 minutes I no-ticed it was her!!! Wim instead really fasci-nated me . His way of talking is very calming and little did i know that he was an AMAZING drummer...!He taught us a lot about drawing techniques. he made me notice how important the direction of your lines is in respect to the lines of the paper. Suddently drawings become so much more interesting! I think all of the class will remember him as “sloping lines” as its what we hear every lesson, but i will remember him with the phrase “believe in your self” . wim not only taught me drawing techniques but also taught me a life lesson to believe in my drawings. this brings us to Liesbeth, the one who will notice all of my mistakes in these long paragraphs i’m wri-ting! Liesbeth, im sorry you had to deal with my confusing ways of writing and my dyslecsia! i you really did your best to help me and i hope i made some improvements but yes, thank you for your patience! hehehe however i am very surprised that someone who isn’t origi-nally english can master a language that well. it really motivated me to improve my grammar
