President’s Message We all do it. Distract ourselves from noticing how time is passing. First it’s our jobs, then our kids, now it’s retirement activities. One day we look in the mirror and see grey hair and think: there is less of life left than already lived. How does this happen so fast? We have options. The first is: Don’t think about it, just fall off the cliff when it comes. The second is: Build a bucket list and try to fit into the small space left (go to Tibet, skydive, etc.). I wonder if we have other options. What do you think? Are we leaving facets of life completely unexplored? Are we making friends as a result of ”proximity” and seeking “distractions” with them or are we making true “connections” with a “friend”? How do we know? Are we seeking an inner peace”. Are we “in tune” or “off pitch” with life. Is Probus a distraction, or is Probus assisting us to live a better life? To find some answers, better go: On a bike ride with Sue, or hike with Frank, or book club with Angela, or dinner with Beth, or snowshoe with Dale, or play darts with Mike, or any number of other activities available at Probus Mountain View….I wonder what they think, how they feel, what insights they have. Life now is a chess game… ”Your move”.

March Speakers – TammyThompsonandReinaldoCorreia
Tammy and Reinaldo gave us much needed information regarding our estate planning. They stressed the importance of being prepared and being in control. Choosing an executor that lives is the same province who understands the complexity of the task is a must.
Estate Planning is especially important if you don’t want to se the estate you’ve spent a lifetime building eroded by taxes and other fees. So… choose your executor carefully, set your priorities, take an inventory of your estate, talk to your family.
This Month’s Speakers – PaulHenderson–HockeyLife,Then&Now
Paul Henderson was born on a sleigh in the middle of a snowstorm near Kincardine. He began his hockey career in Lucknow Ontario, progressing to Junior “A” with the
Hamilton Red Wings. After winning the Memorial Cup in 1962 he moved to the NHL.
Paul played 18 years of professional hockey with the Detroit Red Wings, Toronto
Maple Leafs & Atlanta Flames, including 5 years in the World Hockey Association. As a professional, he scored 376 goals & 384 assists.
History will remember Paul for the first Canada-Russia series in 1972, when Canada
needed a victory in each of the last 3 games to win the series. Incredibly, Paul scored
the winning goal in each of the winning 3 games. The goal in the last game was declared the greatest sports moment in the last century and Team Canada 72 was voted the Team of the Century.
Paul is a member of several Sports Halls of Fame, including Canada’s. He has been honoured with the
following awards:
Order of Canada, Diamond Jubilee Medal, Order of Hockey in Canada, Ontario Sports Hall of Fame Heritage Award, Canada Walk of Fame, IIHF Hockey Hall of Fame, Mississauga’s Legends Row, Order of Ontario.
As a motivational speaker, he has addressed many Canadian major corporations, and has co-authored several
books. The most recent is: “How Hockey Explains Canada”, and his autobiography, “The Goal of my Life”
