Prisoners
I watch a four minute opening which I feel was quite a typical for a drama movie. The
opening was set first in Chinese café and then the main character getting into his car. This is
when we find out he is part of the federal agency talking to other people from a speaker
phone that is attached to the car. We find out that it is thanks giving from the girl in the
café. As the man leaves the café we see that it is night time and raining heavily causing it to
be moody also as no one else is around it gives it greater intensity.
There is a lot of dialogue however when he finds out that he is needed at a crime scene the
music becomes intense however quiet it the background to create suspense. The main
character does not have a police uniform on making it look like that he may be higher up
and may be more important. The use props like the police cars which have the police lights
that stand out from the dark night and rain making it clear that something has happened.
Starting the movie like this makes the audience wonder what has happened and making
them want to carry on with the movie.
The audience do not know what is going on as they are never told. I feel like this is good
because by the end of the opening it makes you want to carry on watching to see where he
is going and what he is going to do.
