Brush is now offering the new PRISMIC A50 excitation controller for all newprojects, replacing earlier generation DCP and MBS controllers. The newA50 controller provides improved functionality and reliability, easiercommissioning and maintenance together with lower cost of spare parts.

Many of these improvements result from the use of high performancemicrocontrollers which integrate many features on chip to enable significantreductions in the number of component parts needed.

The advantages of the A50 compared with the previous generation DCP andMBS controllers are summarised as follows:

Single controller design for complete ouput range• Application engineers’ knowledge can be applied to different system

sizes• Spare parts are common to different generator sizes

Easier Commissioning and Servicing• Simpler procedures with improved Windows-based HMI software• Reduced number of board types• Simple replacement of single unit instead of looking for defect one

Improved Functionality• Wider operating temperature range• Higher long time stability and higher steady state regulation accuracy• Increased control capability of power converters• Communication of excitation controllers directly with SCADA system

(usage of local control panel as a gateway is omitted)• Galvanically insulated servicing port• Optional synchronising function provides higher application flexibility

Improved Reliability• Fewer electronic components• Fewer interconnections
