  • Chinese top 100 printeradds secondROLAND 700 pressQuest for further innovation drives new purchase

GoodYear Printing, one of Chinas leading print companies, recently addeda second 8 color ROLAND 700 to its plant in Shezhen.Employing more than 800 staff, Shenzhen Good Year Printing Co. providesone-stop packaging and print services for such well known companies as HaoRizi, Yunan Baiyo, Bright Future Pharmaceutical and Philips.

Its product range covers everything in high-end packaging, from paper bagsand paper gift boxes to electronic products, food packaging, pharmaceuticalspackaging, color carton manuals and cigarette packaging.

Emphasizing the importance of innovation in print, Mr Zeng Jian, GeneralManager of GoodYear Printing said:

If we want to be the top printing company in China, we have to be innovativein our technology, print and designs. The innovation and advanced technologyof ROLAND 700 are a huge help. The PPL (Power Plate Loading) which comeswith this new ROLAND 700 can significantly reduce make-ready time as well asfurther improve our productivity and lower our production costs. Its exactlywhat we wanted.

TechNova has recently introduced AniKleen Paste, the only Anilox RollerCleaner manufactured in India that offer printers a triple advantage of high-speed and efficient Anilox Roller cleaning, at the lowest cost-in-use.Anilox Rollers are an important component of the press and are known to beone of the most difficult to clean, due to the limited awareness of the correctcleaning procedure. It is further compounded by the difficulty in finding cost-effective products in India. In the long run, improper cleaning of Anilox Rollersleads to accumulation of dried OPV deposits in its cells, which adverselyimpacts the print consistency and quality.

TechNova's AniKleen Paste is the perfect solution to help clean Anilox Rollers, thereby improving print consistency and quality, at almost half the price ofimported products. It is a fast acting cleaner, effectively giving cleaner cells, atspeeds which are significantly and measurably faster when compared tocurrent alternatives. This drastically reduces the time taken for cleaning theAnilox Rollers, leading to reduced machine downtime and obviously betterproductivity. The extraordinary cleaning efficiency allows printers to useAniKleen Paste on or off the machine.

Yet another USP of AniKleen Paste is its universal application. This productworks with all types of Anilox rollers i.e. stainless steel, chrome plated andceramic. A brass brush is recommended for cleaning chrome plated rollers, stainless steel brush is recommended for ceramic rollers and hair or nylonbrush is recommended for stainless steel Anilox Rollers to experience thecleaning power of AniKleen Paste.

Since its introduction, AniKleen Paste has successfully met the needs of qualityand cost conscious printers all across India. Every customer who has experi-enced AniKleen Paste has become a repeat user.Richard Pinto, Business Development Manager Chemicals, TechNova states,AniKleen Paste offers printers an unprecedented triple advantage, with its fast-action and superior cleaning at a very reasonable cost. We believe this willenable printers to concentrate on producing high-quality prints, rather thanworrying about Anilox Roller maintenance and cleaning. Richard also statedthat, printers can expect the same high-quality of standard from AniKleen Pastethat customers have come to associate with all TechNova products. He alsoadded that customers are guaranteed 24x7 technical support.

  • Stratasys Ltd. (Nasdaq: SSYS), aleading global provider of 3Dprinting and additive manufac-turing solutions, today announcedthat Brightwake Ltd., has developed arevolutionary blood recyclingmachine, called the Hemosep, usingStratasys' Dimension 1200es 3DPrinter.

The Hemosep recovers blood spilledduring open heart and major traumasurgery, concentrating the blood cellsready for transfusion back into thepatient. This process, known asautotransfusion, reduces the volumeof donor blood required and theproblems associated with transfusionreaction. The prototype devicefeatures a number of Stratasys 3Dprinted parts, including the mainfiltration and cooling systems, enabling the Brightwake team tofunctionally test the system in itsintended environment, before thefinal device is produced from metal. The device has been awarded the CEmark and is attracting global interestfrom distributors and healthcareproviders.

"The Hemosep consists of a bag thatuses chemical sponge technologyand a mechanical agitator toconcentrate blood sucked from asurgical site or drained from a heart-lung machine after surgery," saysSteve Cotton, Brightwake's Director ofResearch and Development. "The cellsare then returned to the patient viablood transfusion. In a climate ofblood shortage, this recyclingmethodology has the potential to bea game-changer within the medicalindustry, saving the National HealthService millions."

Successful UK Trial Upholds Patient'sReligious Beliefs

Successful clinical trials of over 100open-heart surgery operations inTurkey confirmed the Hemosep'sability to significantly reduce the needfor blood transfusions, and further

trials are now continuing in the UK.One of the first patients to benefitfrom the new Hemosep device is 50-year-old UK heart patient JuliePenoyer, who, as a Jehovah'sWitness, requested not to receivedonated blood products. Becausethe device captures, cleans and putsback lost blood lost during anoperation, Hemosep was the perfectsolution for her.

The success of Hemosep's useduring Mrs. Penoyer's operationpresents new possibilities for patientsacross the globe, whose religiousbeliefs mean that receiving donatedblood is not an option.

Prototyping Costs Slashed by 96%and Lead-Times Eliminated Thanks toIn-house ProductionFor Brightwake, with medical deviceproduction demanding extremelyaccurate parts, capable of enduringthe stress of functional and safetytests, the company's use of 3D

printing has presented significantcost- and time-saving benefits.

"Previously we had to outsource theproduction of these parts which tookaround three weeks per part,"explains Cotton. "Now we're 3Dprinting superior strength partsovernight, cutting our prototypingcosts by 96% and saving more than1,000 for each 3D printed model.

"3D printing has not only enabled usto cut our own costs, it has alsobeen crucial in actually getting afunctional device to clinical trials," headds. "The ability to 3D print parts thatlook, feel and perform like the finalproduct, on-the-fly, is the future ofmedical device manufacturing."

Originating in Nottingham's traditionaltextiles industry, Brightwake is a family-run creative development, engineer-ing, production and researchcompany specializing in innovativemanufacturing solutions. With nearly

35 years' experience, Brightwake hasnow extended its expertise into themedical field, starting with theproduction of wound dressing forthe UK's National Health Service(NHS). Armed with its Stratasys'Dimension 1200es 3D Printer from UKreseller Stanford Marsh, the companynow has the in-house capability toextend its medical device manufactur-ing program beyond the Hemosep."In the fast-paced, competitivemedical device industry, we areseeing more and more of ourcustomers use 3D printing to bringtheir products to market moreefficiently and cost-effectively,"reports Andy Middleton, Senior VicePresident and General ManagerEMEA.

"The ability to turn ideas intofunctional products quickly issomething that in the long-term webelieve will improve the quality ofcare, and in some cases, save lives."

  • In light of recent headlines, such asthe sale of key newspaper titles bythe Axel Springer group, somebranch insiders might begin toquestion the future of the printednewspaper. The expectations for thiscentury-old print medium varyconsiderably, and even in the industryrange from no future for print tolook for opportunities and invest. The stance adopted by Koenig &Bauer (KBA) is clear: Printing is acustomer service!

Those who degrade their readers toco-printers by offering exclusivelyonline information are easy to replaceand throw away valuable customerretention opportunities. Apart fromthis, a purely online product portfoliohas negative consequences withregard to reach. Every printednewspaper is read by up to threepeople, which is a key argument foradvertising customers alongsidetarget-group orientation and greatersustainability.

Usage analyses show that printcommunication is not losing its value, despite the additional media offers. Itis equally clear, however, thatchanging customer and readerdemands must be taken into accountaccordingly.

Growing interest from the branchKBA has gathered 200 years ofexperience with the printed newspa-per. Countless ideas relating tocurrent trends and future demandshave been developed along the way, together with suitable solutions for achanging media world.

With this in mind, it is hardly a surprisethat the KBA RotaJET digital web presshas attracted growing interest fromprominent and opportunity-orientated newspaper publishers andprinting houses since its launch at

Drupa 2012. All are enthusiastic toexplore the possibilities for a contact-free print process free from plate andmakeready concerns.

Four general points are responsiblefor the high level of interest shown:Given the partly dramatic fall in printcirculations, even the most well-known newspaper titles are underpressure to react.

The KBA RotaJET is the first digitalsolution to be offered by a re-nowned offset press manufacturerwho probably understands thedemands of newspaper productionbetter than any other potentialsupplier.

The precision engineering and robustdesign of the KBA RotaJET leave nodoubts as to its suitability for useunder industrial conditions.

An increasing awareness after manyan expensive online adventure thatdifficult situations also meanopportunities for new approaches.Wherever newspapers were printeddigitally on any perceptible scale inthe past, this was usually in the formof so-called island editions.

For such cases, inkjet systemsgenerally emerged as the printingtechnology of choice, thanks to thesignificantly higher productivitycompared to toner-based systems

and the relatively low costs for shortruns using a process which eliminatesprinting plates and the associatedmakeready costs. Until recently, however, the major suppliers of thesesystems had their roots exclusively inthe IT sector (main focus: businessforms).

The systems were engineeredaccordingly, with all the attendantapplication limitations. It can scarcelybe unexpected, therefore, that doubtwas sown regarding the professionalsuitability and reliability for newspaperproduction, and that potentialinvestors were unwilling to committhe required sums.

    Excellence Awards (IDEAs) 2014

were announced last night in Munich

during FESPA, at a reception hosted

by Inca and Fujifilm to celebrate the

    occasion.

The IDEAs celebrate the creative and

    remarkable products and effects that

can be achieved by companies using

    Inca printers.

The judges Vince Cahill, President of

    VCE Solutions; John Charnock, PR-INT

    director; Barney Cox, consultant and

    Marco Boer, senior analyst and

    consultant to the digital printing

    industry were tasked to select
