Moffat and District Community Initiativethanks local businesses for their
generous support
This is the fourteenth year in which the What’s On Guide has been produced by the Moffat Initiative. It is much sought after by both locals and visitors and is made available at a variety of venues throughout the Town. Please telephone or email for additional copies. The Initiative continues to support a number of projects to promote tourism, as well as marketing the Town for new Tourism ventures. It is crucial that we continue to promote our Town as a tourist destination in the face of growing competition elsewhere. This year Community Emergency Plan is also included on pages 4 and 5 Main events held throughout the year that are of interest to visitors are overleaf followed by the monthly diary of all other events, meetings, trips, etc. Contact details for groups, clubs, etc. follow. The support of local businesses in funding the printing costs of the Guide is much appreciated and we hope you will support them by buying their products/services. Thanks are also due to the group who have been gathering all the information for inclusion in the Guide.

Community Emergency Plan.
All Dumfries and Galloway Community Councils have been charged to produce a community resilience plan that could be implemented should an emergency situation arise that required resource and assistance from within the community. Such instances could be isolation of the community due to severe weather conditions, a major incident, loss of critical utilities, etc. The plan would be implemented should such an emergency arise and be on the advice of the police or D&G Council. Information from the community may have a significant influence on such a decision. Such a plan has now been produced and is in place; in Moffat there is a team of 10 local people who have a copy of the plan and some of the relevant resources available to the community and the contact numbers. In Moffat, for example, three potential rescue centres have been identified; availability and need at the time would determine what resources are required to cater for that particular situation. Centres could be staffed by the Royal Voluntary Service ( RVS ). In Beattock the Village hall would be used and, if needed, Beattock School. It is the responsibility of local residents to ensure that they have their own plan and resources available such that they could sustain themselves for up to 72 hours in terms of basic provisions etc. Residents not already on a “list“, who may require assistance in whatever form, are urged to contact the Royal Voluntary Service in Moffat and complete a Personal Emergency Plan. This will be kept on the confidential ( RVS) file and be acted upon should the resilience plan be activated. For information during an emergency, or to see if an emergency has been called, please access local news media, Moffat Online, the Town Hall notice board, the Police Facebook page and Moffat Community Resilience Facebook page. On the page opposite you will find some relevant emergency telephone numbers, plus space to add your own. Keep this booklet in a place where, in an emergency, it is near to hand. The local plan is staffed by volunteers who have no statutory authority: that lies with the various professional agencies. This local planning can help prepare a community for occasions when support from other organisations (for whatever reason) is not immediately available or which may be limited in scope or capacity. Moffat Academy is keen to support the plan and may utilise some of their systems and facilities should the need arise. David Booth, Moffat and District Community Council Resilience Plan Coordinator.

Community Emergency Plan. In the event of an emergency in Moffat and District please have in place a personal plan to keep your family safe.
• Record where you could go if evacuated.
• Keep a record of family and friends’ contacts.
• Make up a Household Emergency Pack – battery radio, torch, 1st Aid Kit, important documents, medication, bottled water, tinned food.
• Note where to turn off Gas, Water and Electricity in your house.
Useful Numbers (+ add your own)
In the event of an emergency, local rescue centres may be located at the Town Hall, Proudfoot Indoor Sports and Social Club and Moffat Academy. The RVS will provide assistance to vulnerable people in the community.
