Week 10 Term 4

STAFFING IN 2020 We will finalise staffing and classes early in 2020 after everyone returns from holidays and numbers have been confirmed, as we are still very close to an eleventh class. Our students will be in their 2019 classes on the first day and when we confirm numbers, we will move our students into their new classes depending on enrolments. We appreciate your understanding with this. If anyone is not able to attend the first day of school please let the office know so that your child is included in our numbers. I would like to take this opportunity to farewell Mr Erskine and Mr Quinlivan at the end of this school year. We thank them for their dedication and commitment to the students at Corrimal PS and wish them all the very best for the future. We know they will be missed and perhaps we may see them back at school next year in a casual teaching capacity. We will welcome Mr Timothy Gannon to Corrimal PS at the start of 2020. Mr Gannon comes from Brighton-Le-Sands PS and more recently Austinmer PS, as our newly appointed permanent teacher through transfer. We are currently in the recruitment process through interview for another permanent position to be filled for the start of 2020. A detailed staff list will be sent home next year after final arrangements have been made.

THANK YOU!

Thank you to our P&C for the outstanding contributions to our school in 2019. Thank you also to canteen and

uniform shop helpers and all of the volunteers who have helped in classrooms and behind the scenes. Thank you to

the entire parent body for your support and presence in our school community.

YEAR 6 FAREWELL

I am looking forward to my first Year 6 Farwell at Corrimal PS to celebrate our senior students who have achieved

so much over their school life. I know there is much excitement for the event not just from the students! The

farewell begins at 5.30pm and we thank the parents in advance for assisting to set up the hall ready for the

extravaganza.

On Wednesday, teachers will be challenging Year 6 to a game of volley ball from 2.15pm and then all students will

form a tunnel from the hall for Year 6 to move through. All super exciting but I am sure there will be tears.

HAPPY HOLIDAYS!

The last day of the school year for students is Wednesday 18 December. The last day for staff is Thursday 19 December. Staff completed a series of additional professional learning hours throughout the year in lieu of one of our school development days at the end of the year. Our school will be open on Friday 20 December but will be manned by a skeleton office staff. I will be involved in a panel for our classroom teacher position and will not be available on this day.

We look forward to seeing students in Yr 1-6 back at school on Wednesday 29 January, 2020. Kindergarten will begin this day as well, although will not start until 9:30am. Staff will begin the 2019 school year with a School Development Day on Tuesday 29 January.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone for an outstanding 2019 and for making me feel so welcome in the community. I have loved my first year as Principal of Corrimal PS and feel we have achieved so much. There have been many highlights over the year and I have loved getting to know the students and their families and look forward to growing those relationships in 2020.

To all our families and community members, I would like to wish everyone a very safe and merry Christmas. I hope you share special times with your loved ones and enjoy winding down from the school year.

2019 Year 6 Jamberoo Day

All Year 6 students were very excited to visit Jamberoo Action Park in Week 9 as their end-of-year reward. The students joined roughly 2,500 other Stage 3 students from schools throughout the Illawarra. Everyone had a fantastic time, including Ms Vincenzini, Mr Quinlivan, Mrs Veljanovski and Ms Feld.

The Stage 3 teachers would like to take this opportunity to say a big thank you to all Year 6 students and their families for a productive, supportive and fun year! We wish all Year 6 students the very best in high school and can’t wait to see you all at the Year 6 Farewell.

COS CAROLS

Thank you to everyone that came along to the COS Carols performance in Week 8! We had a sensational turn out of 91 students perform in our choir. We were the biggest and BEST choir there. We were even lucky enough to be featured on our local WIN news! Thank you to all the students that came along to rehearsals and worked very hard to practice and perform! Miss Marks Coordinating Teacher

HAVE A GO SHOW

We have had a steady build and now it is finally here…The Have a Go Show! A huge thankyou to every student involved and an even bigger thankyou to all the carers who ensured that all props and music were delivered on time to auditions and the performance. The students have all worked hard on their performances and the show encompasses a variety of talents from drumming, singing, dancing, joke telling, paper plane throwing, martial arts and improvised song creating. The celebration of talents commences on Tuesday the 17th at 12.00pm-1.30pm. We look forward to seeing you there and we hope you enjoy the performances. Have a safe and Merry Christmas!

OFFICIAL OPENING OF THE SCHOOL PLAYGROUND

On Wednesday the 4th December Corrimal Public School and the wider community opened phase one of the natural playground.

A playground, is defined as a place specifically designed to enable children to play there. Here at Corrimal this space has become much more. Nestled here, under the shade of the camphor laurel, students have the opportunity to build friendships, work together and more importantly, have fun! We would like to extend a huge thank you to Mr Park for his contribution through the NSW community building partnerships grant. Without this grant we would have been unable to complete phase one of our outdoor play facilities.

We would also like to thank our P&C for their tireless efforts in applying for the grant. They are currently still busy fundraising to raise the funds needed for future phases and we thank them for their efforts. Without their help we would not be able to present this amazing space.

Thank you to all those that attended to share this special milestone. Mrs Law Coordinating Teacher

CORRIMAL PUBLIC SCHOOL

P&C NEWS

Thank you from the President 2019 has been a big year for both the School and the

P&C. We started the year welcoming our new Principal,

Mrs Vincenzini, as we simultaneously farewelled Ms

Mulroney and Mr Hailstone. With Term 1 coming to an

end we also farewelled Mrs Barnes. Term 2 saw the

arrival of Mrs Pennisi, who was then followed in Term 3

by Mr Penno.

Fundraising played a major part in the P&C’s activities

for the year. We ran our usual Easter Raffle, Mother’s

Day and Father’s Day stalls.

Twice this year we provided Picnic Hampers at special

CPS events to allow families attending to relax and have

lunch together.

Book Club ran again this year to help the school gain

credits to purchase further books.

Our big fundraising event of the year was our inaugural

Garage Sale Trail Car Boot Sale that was a huge success

that we will definitely be repeating again next year.

The P&C also ran several services for the children of the

school. We ran the Uniform Shop to provide lower cost

uniforms for the school families, the Canteen that was

mostly open four days a week; and, the Kindy Playgroup.

We also paid for Life Education and student insurance.

All of this has been achieved thanks to all of the volunteer hours that you as parents, grandparents,

carers and teachers have given to our school.

I often have people say to me that when they drive

past the school during the day that they see either

myself or my car here and think to themselves that I’m

here helping around the school again. I usually am, but

I’m never alone in that endeavour. There is always

other members of the P&C there to help in many

capacities, whether it is carrying, packing and selling

books, running around over half of Corrimal sourcing

trestle tables, type meeting minutes, selling uniforms

or food, or even yes, going through the garbage to

retrieve cans to then earn money for recycling.

Each volunteer is priceless to our school and I take this

opportunity to thank each and every one of you for

your dedication to CPS.

Whilst I can’t name you all, there is one special

volunteer that I would like to acknowledge, Helen

Baldwin.

Helen’s first child started here at CPS in 2001 and

Helen has been volunteering here all that time. Yes, 18

years of dedicated service. Let me just say that, even

though Helen’s youngest daughter is graduating from

CPS at the end of the year, Helen will be staying on as

Canteen Coordinator in 2020.

In closing out the year, we say a temporary goodbye to

Mrs Cocks for the next year, and a final farewell to

Mrs Pennisi. Thank you again and I look forward to

more fun times volunteering with you all at CPS in

2020.

To our departing Year 6 students and families, thank

you for your support, contributions and enthusiasm for

the school throughout your years here. It has been an honour working with you. We wish you all the best for

2020 and all your future adventures! Good Luck!

Merry Christmas to all from the 2019 P&C!

Welcome to this week’s P&C update!

But first...

From the Uniform Shop

The move to IMB for School Banking is now underway,

ready for 2020. Now is the time to start setting your

IMB accounts.

Unfortunately, due to a miscommunication with a

supplier, some uniforms won’t be available this term.

However the supplier has guaranteed us they will be

ready before school starts next year. For this reason

we will open up the uniform shop on:

TUESDAY 28th JANUARY between 10-11am.

So if you are needing any last minute back to school

uniform items, come along and grab what you need.
