What is Energy?• Energy is defined as the ability to

produce change or do work.

Forms of Energy

• Potential Energy: the energy that a piece of matter has because of its position or nature or because of the arrangement of parts.

• Kinetic Energy: the energy of an object associated with its motion.

Potential Energy

• Potential Energy is stored energy and the energy of position, or gravitational energy. There are several forms of potential energy, including:– Chemical energy– Stored Mechanical Energy– Gravitational Energy

Kinetic Energy

• Kinetic Energy is motion – the motion of waves, electrons, atoms, molecules, substances, and objects.

• Types of Kinetic Energy include:• Electrical Energy• Radiant Energy• Thermal Energy• Motion Energy• Sound Energy

Conservation of Energy

• A principle in physics: the total energy of an isolated system remains constant irrespective of whatever internal changes may take place with energy disappearing in one form and reappearing in another.
