This week in the Kitchen Garden KITCHEN MENU Our menu this week features many of the herbs that the children have been learning about in gardening. It includes pumpkin risotto, spaghetti squash with lemon herb sauce, chicken wonton soup and cheesy herb loaf. We will also be making delicious persimmon upside down cakes. KITCHEN AIDE HAND BLENDER Thank you to Kitchen Aide for donating a 5-speed hand blender for our students to use in the kitchen. Kitchen Aide is a major program sponsor of the Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Garden Foundation and we appreciate their continued support. The blender is worth about $400 and will be a useful appliance in the kitchen. BAROOGA FOUR SEASONS MARKET On Saturday, 22nd June, we will be having a Kitchen Garden stall at the Barooga Four Seasons Market being held on the Barooga Foreshore from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. We will be selling hot soup made by the children along with our usual fresh produce, cakes, plants and preserves. We would like this to be one of our main fundraisers for the year so please consider baking or giving us some of your child’s time to help run the stall on the day. A note requesting help will go out next week. CAN YOU HELP US? We are looking for the following items. Please contact the school if you are able to help us.

∗ Empty metal olive oil tins, or similar interesting containers, for the children to turn into herb plant pots. Any tins can be brought to my room.

∗ Milk bottle lids (without any print on them, please). ∗ Large pots, old metal garbage bins, plastic drums etc. ∗ Bicycle wheels to make a trellis. (The Year 5/6 children have started work on this project.) ∗ Bricks to help build the new BBQ area ∗ Bags of good quality potting mix. ∗ Metal tins with lids such as baby formula tins to use for a craft activity.

THANK YOU

∗ Huge thanks go to Julie Green for donating some metal greenhouse hoops so we will be able to replace our once beautiful kiwifruit arch. Julie donated the original hoops we used for the arch and our shade tunnel so we are very grateful that she has come to our aid once again. We now need the assistance of someone with access to a truck to move them from her place in Boosey to the school. If anyone can help, please contact me at school.

∗ Thank you to Mr Lindsay Martin who kindly donated plants and two steel bins for the garden last week. The children have potted up the bulbs, dietes and orange pig face and the plants will be sold to raise money to support our program. If anyone is interested in purchasing plants, please see me at school.

∗ Thank you to everyone who continues to drop off oil tins and milk bottle lids. Nikki Bird SAKG Program Coordinator
