Banks Junior Short Film Contest
The Banks Junior Short Film Contest was launched in 2015 by Federal member for Banks, Mr David Coleman
in conjunction with Shopfront Theatre. The contest provides young filmmakers of primary or secondary age
the opportunity to make short films that encapsulate the theme – why we love our area. Registration for the
contest is free. Students can enter films in the contest as individuals, or in groups. Prizes include Go Pro
Cameras and free enrolment in film production courses at Shopfront Theatre, Carlton. Attached to this
newsletter is a copy of the flyer explaining the rules of the contest and other information. Submissions must
be received by Wednesday, 18th October 2017. The films will be screened at Beverly Hills Cinema on the
evening of Wednesday, 1st November 2017. All proceeds from tickets sold on the night will go to the St
Vincent De Paul Society.
2017 Christmas Card Competition
Students are invited to participate in a Christmas card competition coordinated by Member for Oatley, Mr
Mark Coure. The winner of the competition will have their design featured on Mr Coure’s 2017 Christmas
card, with three runners up displayed on the back cover of the card. The Christmas card will be sent to
residents across the electorate as well as community groups and Members of Parliament.
To enter, students are asked to complete their Christmas card design on the template attached to this
newsletter. All entries need to be submitted by Friday, 20th October 2017.
Woolworths Earn and Learn Program
There’s only two weeks left to collect stickers for the Earn & Learn program! Thank you to the many families
who have already supported this program and collected stickers. Our goal is to reach 10,000 stickers. The
more stickers that are collected, the more resources we can purchase to benefit all students at our school.
Please support the Woolworths Earn and Learn Program to enable our school to purchase additional
resources for our students.
If you haven’t been involved so far, here’s how it works:

‘CODE CAMP’ is returning to Lugarno PS in the School Holidays!
During the first week of the upcoming Spring school holidays, Lugarno PS will host ‘Code Camp’ for students in Years 2 - 6.
‘Code Camp’ is three days of fun, creativity, logic, problem solving and coding where participants get to design and code their very own app. ‘Code Camp’ will run for three days from Monday, 25th September until Wednesday, 27th September. There are two program options: the ‘Spark’ program which is designed for first timers and ‘Ignite’ for returning students.
Please visit codecamp.com.au/Lugarno or call 1300 263 322 for further details.

After School Lego Club Update
The students participating in the After-School Lego Club are having a great time learning about engineering
concepts, construction and are building on their knowledge each week. We will be holding a “Lego Challenge
Day” in “The Hub” on Wednesday, 13th September. The Challenge Day will provide an opportunity for the
Term 3 participants to showcase their knowledge and share what they have been learning about this term.
Parents of our participants are most welcome to attend and any other students and their parents who are
interested in taking a look can come along as well.
We are very excited that our After-School Lego Program will return in Term 4. Please see the invitation below
for information about enrolments.

Student Absence Notes
Many student absences are not being validated by a signed, written note from a parent or carer. It is a
requirement that a note explaining a child’s absence is provided as soon as a child returns to school. We
appreciate your cooperation on this matter.

Lugarno Public School Banking TERM 3
Getting involved in the School Banking Program Lugarno Public School is excited to offer the Commonwealth Bank School Banking Program to all Students in 2017. The School Banking program provides children with an opportunity to deposit money into their Commonwealth Bank Youthsaver account at school each week. The program is about how often your child makes deposits, not how much they deposit. You can get involved in the School Banking program by opening a Commonwealth Bank Youthsaver account at your local branch. All you need to bring is your current identification as well as your child’s birth certificate. If you are an existing Commonwealth Bank customer and have NetBank, you can open an account online. If your child has an existing Commonwealth Bank Youthsaver account they can start banking straight away. They just need to bring their deposit in every Wednesday on School Banking day using their Dollarmites deposit wallet.
