Grade 3 and 4 News

Here we are in December already! We are busy preparing (and are so excited!) for the upcoming Christmas concert. Information on props and costumes will be communicated soon. The Grade 3’s are busy working on addition and subtraction in Math class, while the Grade 4’s have moved on to multiplication and division. We are just finishing up writing personal narratives and now turn our attention to a very serious writing activity… Santa is stuck in a chimney! The students will have to write about how they helped Santa and saved Christmas. As we write, we will focus on the use of time-order words and prepositions. We will also find time for one more round of Guided Reading. In Social Studies, we are continuing to focus on Christmas Around the World. Did you know that the tradition of decorating an evergreen at Christmas came from Germany? We found that out just last week! We hope everyone enjoys decorating their Christmas trees as holiday preparations begin! Have a great month!

Grade 5 and 6 News

We really enjoyed decorating and eating cookies with our spirit groups last Friday! It was a great way to begin December. We have many things to look forward to this month. Spirit week is always fun – ugly Christmas sweater and PJ days are the best! Of course, we are practicing our lines and songs for the Christmas Concert. We have come to the conclusion that we couldn’t pick a favourite song from our musical this year as we really like every one of them and can’t wait to sing them for you. In Work on Writing in our Daily 5, we decided that we are going to try and complete the book that we discussed last year. We are going to write about a traveling classroom that can travel to landmarks for each subject in school. (It’s similar to the Magic Schoolbus – but incorporates all subjects, not just science and health.) We’d like to take this opportunity to wish everyone a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year. Zoe, Merek, Blair and Hudson

Muenster Superleague Curling

The Muenster School Superleague is off to a fantastic start! We are into our third week of play. Games take place at the Muenster Curling Club after school on Wednesdays and Thursdays. During the week before Christmas, games will be on Tuesday and Wednesday, with the finals being played on Thursday, December 21st. Good luck, curlers!

Breakfast for Learning

Breakfast for Learning is funded in part by Presidents Choice Children's Charities.

We would like to thank Muenster SCC, Chantel Classen, and Jessica Hamilton for their

generous contributions.

Thank you!

Bookfair Success

The 2017 Book Fair was a HUGE success once again this year and I’d like to extend a GIANT thank you to everyone that supported our book fair!!! We had another record-breaking year...We made $3004.35 in sales which bumps us to the 60% prize limit mark which means we get $1800 in NEW BOOKS for our library!!! The winner of the $25 Family Event Door Prize was Hailey Stadnyk and The winners of the guess how many pages contest were Kendra Schwingenschloegl and Cheyanne Busch. Thank you to everyone that supported our school library’s fundraiser and a huge thank you to all the volunteers who helped!

Senior Girls’ Volleyball

November is always an exciting month for volleyball players. Playoffs!! Provincials!! A year has passed since our girls were crowned provincial 2A champions. Stepping into this year, they knew that they had their work cut out for them if they were to repeat. Our school hosted Conference play downs on November 4th. Our girls played 3 round robin games where they won all 3, earning a birth into the Regional playoffs the following weekend. On November 10th and 11th, the girls trekked their way to Hanley. They finished the round robin undefeated, beat Langham in the semi-final and then defeated Birch Hills in the final. This victory gave our girls the number one seed heading into the provincial weekend. Davidson played host to 10 teams from across the province vying for the 2A provincial championship. Our girls stayed true to form and played at a high level of volleyball all weekend. They ended the round robin with a 4-0 record. They then played Lemburg in the quarterfinal, winning in 2 straight sets. The semi-final saw the girls come up against Birch Hills for the third straight weekend. Our girls stepped up their game and won in two sets, putting themselves in the exact position they were one year prior. The Provincial Final! Our girls saved their best game of volleyball just for this moment, and this moment will now be a lasting memory for this group. Our girls went through their entire playoff run, starting with Conference and ending with Provincials, without losing a single set. They once again were crowned 2A Provincial Champions. Aside from winning, our girls were great ambassadors for our school all year long. They deserve as much credit for how they behaved off the court, as to what they accomplished on the court. A true testament to the people that they are. Thank you to our graduating players: Mykenzie Taphorn, Samantha Mollenbeck, Kelsey Pratchler, Shelby Engele, Kelsey Berscheid, and Jenay Varga. Congratulations!!
