Principal’s report

Dear Parents/carers,

Every four years, schools undergo a school review, where a panel discusses the strengths and challenges that a

school has over the life of their strategic plan. It is a very thorough process of self-evaluation and data analysis.

There is approximately 8 people on the panel and each person brings a different set of analytical skills, experi-

ence and knowledge to the process.

As part of my commitment to system improvement, I have been asked to be on the school review panel for

both White Hills Primary School and Rochester Primary School. Over the next fortnight I will be out of the

school on 5 separate occasions attending one of these primary schools and discussing their data. The invitation

to sit on school review panels is a direct testament to the work we are doing here at KFPS and some of the

successes we are achieving in a number of areas. In my absence, Faye Martin will be leading our school.

Welcome to our Foundation students

Boy, do I love our Foundation kids! They make me smile every day, and in many cases, make me laugh!

Yesterday as I was in the yard during recess Bailey came up to me and said “You’re Mrs Saddlier aren’t you?”

“Yes I am” I said.

“You’re the Principal right?”

“Yes indeed I am Bailey”

“Well good. I have a problem and you need to help me fix it.”

I found this exchange absolutely gorgeous as I followed him to the playground. At the age of 5 years, Bailey

was using his voice to solve a problem. Through our Respectful Relationships curriculum we teach students

how to socialise, how to express our emotions in a respectful way, and who we can trust when we need to seek

help or support. I look forward to many more conversations with our Foundation students – they brighten my

day!

Please see the photos, taken at last week’s assembly, of our littlest members of our school community.

Student Leadership

It is important for students to experience leadership opportunities during their schooling, to learn the art of

building relationships within teams, achieving tasks effectively and it also provides an opportunity to learn to

identify and display effective communication and interpersonal skills.

At Kangaroo Flat Primary School, we believe all members of our school community should be capable of exer-

cising leadership in different contexts. The more leadership is encouraged, the more it flourishes. Students at

our school have the opportunity to experience leadership through formal and informal leadership positions; by

striving to uphold our school values of Respect, Responsibility, Teamwork and Being Your Best; and through

the opportunities to achieve success with friends and peers in the classroom, in the yard and through repre-

senting our school on the various sporting teams offered or choir performances.

Student leadership positions for the school year have been finalised and will be announced this Friday 26th

February at our 9am school assembly. Announcements on this day will include School Captains, House Captains,

Assembly Leaders, Choir Leaders, and United Classrooms.

Assembly – Friday mornings at 9am in the Gym

Parents/carers and friends are welcome to attend Assembly but must continue to wear a mask at all times,

scan in using the QR code or sign in sheet and remain socially distant.

School Council Elections

Our call for nominations for the 2021-2023 School Council term is once again included in

today’s newsletter. Nominations close this Friday 26th February. A nomination form is includ-

ed for your use. Each year we have a group of retiring councillors and the opportunity for

new members to join. We also have a strong commitment from members who like to commit

to more than one 2 year cycle. An election will be held if nominations exceed vacancies.

Parents and Friends Club

I would also like to remind our wider school community that our Parent & Friends Club meet on the first Mon-

day of the month - this is another great way for you to be involved in school life. The Parent Club AGM will be

held next Monday 1st March at 2.00pm. All community members welcome.

Occupational Health & Safety @ KFPS

As part of our OH&S requirements we organise an evacuation or lockdown drill each term.

The purpose of conducting a drill at school is so that everyone in the building is aware of how to exit the

building in the quickest, easiest and safest way possible if a fire, or other emergency did occur and will help

staff and students familiarize with the sound of the alarm as well as the instructions being given by the

teacher in charge.

Lockdown Drill – this week

This week we will conduct a Lockdown Drill whereby students and staff are expected to remain in their

classroom and secure it in a lockdown procedure. Staff will follow the lockdown processes to communicate

to the office when everyone is accounted for in their area.

This may be the first time that our Foundation students have experienced a drill. Your child may wish to dis-

cuss with you exactly what happens during a drill. If you have any questions about our emergency proce-

dures, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Next term we will practise an evacuation – leaving our classrooms to assemble at a particular site on our

premises.

Calendar Dates:

Pupil Free Day

Next Tuesday 2nd March will be a pupil free day. That means that NO students will be at

school. Our teaching staff will be undertaking a full day of professional learning in Literacy

with a specific focus on reading. Our Education Support staff will be undertaking work-

shops with an ASD focus and wellbeing focus.

Parent- Teacher Interviews

Please mark in your diaries the following Parent-Teacher meeting opportunities. These meetings will be

made via Sentral Parent Portal. All Foundation and new students will receive a letter this week with their

registration and access code. Existing families will already have this information.

Wednesday 31st March 3:45pm – 5:45pm Parent- Teacher Interviews

Thursday 1st April 8:45am – 1:30pm Parent- Teacher Interviews
