8th Grade All Stars
As we celebrate the end of middle school for our eighth grade students and promote them on to begin their high
school years, we would like to thank parents for allowing us to be your student’s teachers this year. We have had a
very productive year of learning and are excited to see where each student goes as they plan and prepare for high
school and beyond.
PAGE 7 Congratulations to the many Spanish students from Robinson Middle School who attained national recognition for excellent performance on the 2017 National Spanish Examinations. Students from Robinson earned a total of 18 gold, 43 silver and 31 bronze level awards along with 58 honorable mentions. “Attaining an award or honorable mention for any student on the Na-tional Spanish Examinations is very prestigious,” said Kevin Cessna-Buscemi, National Director of the Exams, “because the ex-ams are the largest of their kind in the United States with over 157,000 students participating in 2017.” The National Spanish Examinations are administered each year in grades 6 through 12, and are sponsored by the American Association of Teachers of Spanish and Portuguese.

Math Intervention
We are excited to begin using i-Ready in all of our Math Intervention classes next year. All of our students have been tested using i-Ready each 4-weeks and now next year all of our Math Intervention students will have access to their Lessons. These lessons are catered to each student’s individual needs with videos and worksheets for the specific les-son your child needs extra help on. We are excited to begin the year with this great curriculum.
Online activities to try over the summer:
http://gregtangmath.com/- Speed isn’t everything, but practice helps.
https://www.mathsisfun.com/ -Search for topics such as division, multiplication, fractions, decimals, integers, equa-tions, inequalities https://www.khanacademy.org/ -You don’t have to sign up for an account, but if you do your child can track their pro-gress through math and other subjects. Topics that would be helpful for all grade levels are ratios, fractions, decimals, integers, and solving equations. Or they can choose a grade level and work through the topics listed there.
Games to play:
Yahtzee: Multiples, addition and mental math.
Farkle: Multiples and mental math.
Scrabble:Make them keep score.
Card games:
War-Flip 2 cards over to practice addition, subtraction, multiplication. If you use the black cards as positive numbers and red cards as negatives they can also practice comparing, adding,
subtracting and multiplying integers. Deal 5 cards to each person and race to see who can make the greatest or least number.
Sizzlin’ Sixlets

enjoyed helping you on your math journey. We would love to leave you with some math resources to keep your skills
sharp over the summer and ensure you are ready for 7th grade. The following are some great
websites!
Kahanacademy.org: This is a great website with video tutorials and practice problems.
Also, it is completely free!
Xpmath.com: This has really fun games that are broken down by skill.
Sheppardsofware.com: Another math game website also broken down by
skill.
Mobymax.com: Like Kahn Academy but more geared toward kids. It has a free
component but for more activities you can pay for a subscription.
