principal s message - landing trail school...bike rodeo we will be having a bike rodeo on thursday,...
TRANSCRIPT
Principal’s Message Field Trip season is upon us. Many classes have had the opportunity to participate in field trips already and there are more planned. June always holds a lot of fun events for the staff and students. In the midst of all that, the learning continues. Our students are learning skills and knowledge that they can continue to use in the next grade and throughout their lives.
We are accepting registrations for next year, so if you know of any families new to Gibbons, or who have students entering Kindergarten, we would like to meet with them soon, as this helps us with planning for the fall.
So, let’s enjoy all the learning and fun that June holds.
Mr. D. Propp

It is that time of year again when we start planning for the upcoming school year.

In 2011, in the interest of student safety, Sturgeon Public School Division instituted a policy requiring that all adults accompanying or meeting fieldtrips are required to have a Criminal Record Check on file at the school prior to the fieldtrip. Please keep in mind that if you submitted a background check to the office last year, you are NOT required to get a new one this time. If you require a background check, please stop by the office to pick up the needed documentation for the RCMP. When submitting a background check to the office, please be advised that the original MUST be stamped by the RCMP within the last 6 months. The office will make a copy and give you back the original.
2018 -19 School Fees Student Agenda (Grade 1-4) $8.00 Additional Fees that may be applicable: Grade3 Recorder $10.00 Grade 4 Swimming Lessons $50.00 Logos Fee $15.00 Headstart Fieldtrip Fee $100.00 Kindergarten Fieldtrip Fee $100.00 Kindergarten Craft Fee $ 30.00 School Fees for the 2018-19 school year will be collected starting on August 27, 2018 when the office opens for the next school year. If paying by cheque, it should be made payable to Landing Trail School. Please contact the Finance Department if you need to make payment arrangements.
School Fees for 2017-18 are OVERDUE. Please contact the office if you need to make payment arrangements.
Soon teachers will begin the process of making class list for 2018/2019. If you have a special request, please do this in a letter to Mr. Propp that outlines the educational reason(s) for your choice. As much as possible, we try to honor these requests, but there are sometimes extenuating circumstances that don’t always make it possible. Please have any special requests in by June 8th as we will be working on teaching assignments shortly.
Report Cards
Report cards will once again be sent out electronically at the end of June. They will also be available for viewing in the Parent Portal for 60 days. If you have not been receiving emails from the school, have changed your email or not provided an email address to us, be sure to contact Mrs. Brezinski the office
as soon as possible.

A specialThank you to our LOGOS committee and
LOGOS families for treating staff to a delicious lunch on
May 15th. The meal was very much appreciated and enjoyed
by all!
Emergency Confirmation sheets will be coming home in your child’s backpack very soon. Please be sure to update info as necessary and return it to the office as soon as possible. These forms serve as your child’s registration for next year so it is very important that they are returned promptly. If you are moving over the summer, you are asked to please write moving on the top and return it to the office.
Gibbons Hockey Academy Registrations
Gibbons School Hockey Academy will now be taking registrations for the fall school year (2018-2019) up to June 8, 2018. A pamphlet and a registration form was sent home with your child at the beginning of April outlining our program and fees. To register you will need to complete the registration form, have a letter of reference and pay your $200 registration fee. Registration forms are available at the Landing Trail School office. All registration packages can be dropped off at Gibbons School. If you have any questions or concerns please feel free to contact Ron Shaw or Darryl Paziuk at Gibbons School. We are looking forward to working with your student athlete in our hockey/sports academy.

We are excited to announce that Landing Trail School will be celebrating Pride Week from June 4
th – 7th!
In accordance with Sturgeon Public School Division Policy D/III/2/1.1, D/III/1/1.2 and the School Act Preamble, Landing Trail strives to celebrate diversity, equality, inclusion, and human rights of all students, staff and parents.
1.1 The Board believes in the importance of, and is committed to establishing and maintaining a welcoming, caring, respectful and safe learning and working environment that respects diversity and fosters a sense of belonging for all students and staff including those who self-identify as sexual or gender minorities, including but not limited to: lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, transsexual, two-spirit, queer, gender fluid, or those who are questioning their sexual orientation, gender identity, or gender expression.
1.2 The Board believes that each student and staff member has the right to learn and work in an environment that respects: equity, diversity, inclusion, and human rights.
WHEREAS students are entitled to welcoming, caring, respectful and safe learning environments that respect diversity and nurture a sense of belonging and a positive sense of self;
During Pride Week, we will celebrate pride in our school, community, family and ourselves. Our planned activities are:
Monday: Pride in the park. Students will be enjoying lunch outside picnic style. In the morning, teachers and students will write positive chalk messages on the sidewalks. Please join us if you wish!
Tuesday – Rainbow Day: students are encouraged to wear rainbow colors.
Wednesday - Students will create flags/posters of something they are proud of (family, sports, talents, academics, etc.) will participate in a walk through Gibbons.
Thursday – The PIA will be providing ice cream with rainbow sprinkles.
We thank you for your continued support in making all students and families feel welcome at Landing Trail.
Congratulations to the following grade 4 students for their diligence in fulfilling
their duties in Safety Patrol. Thanks for keeping our sidewalks safe!
Keira, Anastasia, Cohen, Nathan & Lacy
Bike Rodeo We will be having a bike rodeo on Thursday, June 7 for grade 1 and 3 students. Individual class times will be written in student agendas the day before. Each class will be involved for one hour which will include helmet inspections and the bike rodeo. We are still looking for a few more volunteers. We expect a very high number of students riding bikes to school on this day, so we will be providing extra supervision outside. Please exercise extreme care when you are driving in the school zone on June 7. Students in grades 2 and 4 will use the regular bike racks on the east side of the school. Students in grades 1 and 3 will park their bikes along the black rail between the staff and guest parking lots. There will be signs designating spots for each homeroom.
The Hot lunch program is now done for the year. A special Thank you to all Hot Lunch Volunteers and the Hot Lunch
Committee. Without you this program would not have been possible!
The grade 4 students participated in a full day of track and field events on Thursday, May 17. We would like to congratulate everyone for their excellent effort and enthusiastic participation.
Congratulations to the following students who qualified to represent Landing Trial School at the Sturgeon Division Finals on Tuesday, May 29

Walking/Town
Parents are asked to ensure students do not arrive any earlier than 8:25 a.m.
STUDENT SAFETY
For your child’s safety please use designated sidewalks, and look both ways before crossing the street. If your child will be riding a bike, please remind them to dismount their bike and walk their bike across the road using the cross-walks. If you are dropping children off, please do not do so in the Staff Parking lot immediately to the west of the building. This is a tremendous safety concern. Parents are welcome to park in the gravel parking lot to the west of the building.
HOT LUNCH
June 1 - Chicken Burger
If your child did not order hot lunch on these dates they will need to bring a lunch. Also please remember to send a healthy snack with all students daily.
www.landingtrailschool.ca Page 8
Reminder:
Student absentee checks are done daily. Please notify the office of your child’s ab-sence @780-923-2898. If your calling after hours, please be sure to leave a message including your child’s name, class and reason for the absence. You may also report
the above information by emailing
Medical Alerts
We would like to remind parents that we have a number of children who suffer from peanut allergies. For this reason we are asking you to please NOT INCLUDE peanut butter or items that contain nuts in snacks or lunches that are being sent to school. We appreciate your efforts in helping us to keep all of our students healthy!
Do you have a child at home that will be 5 on or before March 1, 2019 and missed the Kindergarten registration? If so, please stop by the office and pick up your registration package today.
Healthy Interactions
Healthy Interactions - Do you have a question /concern? Not sure whom you should talk to? We hope that the following chart will provide some guidance.
As a General Rule: Approach the person closest to the concern first.
Classroom Issue or Child Progress: Child’s teacher
Program Issue: Person in charge of program
Playground Student Issue: Supervisor (wear blue or orange vests)
Parent Issue: Child’s teacher (to raise awareness) Mr. Propp or Ms. Burrell
Bus Ride Issue: Child’s bus driver
Bus Stop Issue: Transportation office (Donna or Sherry @ 780-939-4341)
Nutrition Program Our Nutrition Program provides students with healthy snacks and lunches throughout the year. Once again an immeasurable Thank You to all parents, businesses and staff that helped to make sure our program was a success last year. The continued success of this program will rely heavily on donations. We hope that we will continue with our old partnerships and form many new ones as well. Tax receipts will be issued for any donations of $25.00 and over.
Thank you for your continued support!
End of Day Dismissal
Often at the end of the day, there is a lot of confusion in the front of the school as we are trying to figure out who is on the busses and who we need to account for. If you are picking your children up after school, we ask that you wait in the foyer or at their dismissal door until the second dismissal bell goes. Please, do not wait outside the classroom. When the town student dismissal bell goes, students will be directed to go to the foyer, or you may go to the classroom to pick them up.
POWER SCHOOL PARENT PORTAL
PowerSchool has recently made some exciting
updates to their platform that includes enhancements
for teacher gradebooks that will affect Sturgeon
Public School Division schools. Teachers will
transition to the updated gradebook over the course
of the 2017/2018 and 2018/2019 school year. During
the transition, we anticipate no changes to what
parents and students see in the PowerSchool Parent
Portal. To support your continued navigation and use
of the PowerSchool Parent Portal, an updated User
Guide will be shared in the coming months.
Thank you.
