Principal: Mr Tim Allen Email: [email protected] Week 8 Term 1 Friday, March 22, 2013 Phone: 69 557162 Fax: 69 557477 Welcome to Week 8 of Term 1 at Yanco Public School. In last week’s newsletter I mentioned that the parents of Kindergarten students would receive information about their child’s participation in the Best Start Program this week. Unfortunately Mrs Mrs Clymont was away the last two days of this week, so the packages have been prepared ready for Mrs McClymont to hand to parents early next week. The package includes information sheets about the Best Start Program and its focus on Literacy and Numeracy skills and also a parent feedback letter about their child’s performance in the Best Start assessment in the beginning of the year. Plans are well underway for our Easter Hat Parade which will be held next Thursday, 28 March. Students have been enthusiastically bringing in a chocolate Easter eggs, which will be used to make up prizes for the P&C Easter Raffle that will be drawn after the Easter Hat Parade. Prizes will also be awarded to students judged to have created the best Easter hat in a number of categories. I hope to see many parents attend what should be a wonderful celebration. On Thursday it was wonderful to see the number of students who were engaged in the celebration of Harmony Day by wearing bright orange coloured clothing to school and participating in a short assembly at the beginning of the day focussed on what Harmony Day is all about. By participating in Harmony Day activities, we can learn and understand how all Australians from diverse backgrounds equally belong to this nation and enrich it. Students were also provided with badges, balloons and stickers that are produced to celebrate and promote Harmony Day. On Monday of this week students in Years 5/6 participated in the Leeton Narrandera PSSA Soccer Gala Day, with Angus Boulton being selected in the LNPSSA Soccer team to attend the Riverina Boys Soccer at Cootamundra today. A number of students also participated in the LNPSSA Rugby League selection trials at Parkview PS on Thursday. Next week will see Angus participate in the Western Riverina AFL Trials at Barooga on Thursday, 28 March 2013. Girls Netball and Boys /Girls Softball PSSA Gala Days will be held on the last two Fridays of Term 1, March 5 and March 12. Notes will be sent home next week for these activities. Unfortunately swimming for sport was cancelled yesterday afternoon, due to the inclement weather. At this stage swimming will not take place again as we have moved into the cooler autumn weather. Bike-a-thon sponsorship forms for the annual Bike Day are attached to the Newsletter. This year the Bike Day will be held on Thursday, 11 April 2013, with the usual format taking place. Until next week. Tim Allen, Principal Students who won swimming events at the Small Schools Swimming Carnival at Whitton on Friday February 15. Well done kids! Welcome to Week 8 of Term 1 at Yanco Public School. Unfortunately Mrs Mrs Clymont was away the last two days of this week, so the packages have been prepared ready for Mrs McClymont to hand to parents early next week. Plans are well underway for our Easter Hat Parade which will be held next Thursday, 28 March.
