Consultants This year is the third year of our school’s
involvement of the Federal Government’s National Schools Partnership program. This is Federal Government funding given to our
school based on our School Family Occupa-tion (SFO) index. The SFO is a grading we
are given indicating the level of disadvan-tage of our families. Our current SFO is 0.84. The closer to 1.0 the more disadvan-
taged the families. The funding has been given to the schools to employ consultants
to work with our teachers to build great ca-pacity, which ultimately result in increased student outcomes.
We are again fortunate enough to have se-
cured the services of Varda Phillipou (literacy) and Anne Thorp (numeracy).
Both are here one day a week for the year. They will be working in classrooms model-ling and coaching teachers in best practice
in their respective curriculum areas.
Primary Mathematic Specialists (PMS) As indicated last year in the school newslet-ter, the school successfully applied and
was selected to participate in DEECD PMS program. This has allowed us to release 3
x 0.5 EFT teachers to work with teams in the school on Math learning and teaching as listed:
Prep -2 Sharon Rogers
3/4 Rebecca Hoyne 5/6 Ricky Potter
Healthy Minds – Psychological Services The school has recently been approached
by Healthy Minds – Psychological Services who provide counselling for children.
They have offered their services to the stu-dents in our school. I have attached an in-
formation sheet to the newsletter outlining what their service is about.
As schools are always under resourced in this area, I believe this is an excellent op-
portunity for us to access more services for the children at no cost to the school or the families.
Please see Ricky Potter (Primary Wel-
fare Officer) or Anne-Maree Kliman
Page 2
(Principal) if you wish to discuss this service
as an option for your child.
Personal Goods Brought to School at Owner’s Risk
The Department of Education & Early Child-
hood Development recently sent schools a Memorandum outlining the following:
The Department of Education & Early Child-hood Development does not hold insurance for
personal property brought to schools and it will not pay for any loss to personal or dam-
aged property. Therefore families need to be aware that the
school and the Department will not be held re-sponsible for any loss or damage to personal
property brought to school by students such as: mobile phones, toys, sporting equipment,
Ipods etc.
Mobile Phones
The School has a mobile phone policy that has been attached to the newsletter. Any student
who brings a mobile phone to school must give it to their teacher or the school office to be locked away for the day. No child is al-
lowed to have a mobile phone on them during school hours. Please refer to the policy.
STUDENT ABSENCES –
‘It’s Not OK to be Away!’
Our staff plan and implement exciting and challenging learning programs at school that
cater for all children. Unfortunately, some of our children miss these
valuable learning programs during the year because of frequent or long absences from
school. Whilst we understand that there are times
when children are away from school due to ill-ness or medical appointments, other absences
and lengthy periods away from school are not acceptable. It is part of the initiative ‘It’s Not OK to be Away which promotes two key mes-
sages:
Student attendance is the responsibility of everyone in the community (parents, teachers and students)
Schools will monitor student attendance to ensure it is regular, in order to im-
prove student learning.

Senka King
Assistant Principal
If your child has missed school, please no-tify the school either in writing or via the
phone, with an explanation for the absence. We look forward to the support of our par-ents with this important initiative.
School Visitors
In order to maintain a safe environment for all, I would like to remind parents of the ar-rangements that exist for all visitors to the
school.
All visitors (parents, family members, con-tractors, volunteers, members of the public) are asked to report to the School Office and
gain permission to visit by signing the Visi-tor’s Book and be issued with an identifica-
tion badge. Before leaving, all visitors are asked to sign out at the School Office and
return their Badge.
Re-stumping Program
I am pleased to say the re-stumping, clad-ding, stormwater and asphalt program was
completed over the school holidays. We no longer walk down building one on a slant!! It is very satisfying to now have school grounds
that are safe with all relevant areas having new
asphalt or new asphalt sheeting. Our next ma-
jor task is to further develop the school grounds
and returf the oval where the relocatables used
to be.
