Having a vicar is not an easy ministry for a congregation to take upon itself. It involves a major financial commitment; the vicar is a paid employee of the parish. However, I believe that it is the vicarage experience that truly confirms, for both the vicar and the seminary, whether or not a seminarian really is both willing and able to be a pastor. I am proud and honored to have been the second of only two vicars that you had had so far. Prince of Peace is a great teaching parish because of the people here, the high level of activities in which the congregation is involved, and certainly for Pastor Janssen...a man who always provides glowing and positive evaluations of his vicar to the seminary…(please?). In all seriousness, Pastor has taught me a lot, and I’m glad to have had him as my vicarage supervisor. Although Prince of Peace did not request a vicar for this year, I hope that in the future you will be able to take another one under your wing. Once again, what a tremendous ministry to the synod at large a congregation provides when, by requesting a vicar, it becomes a teaching congregation. It is most difficult to finish this article as it is my farewell letter to you, but I know that Teffie and I will remain in your prayers as you certainly will in ours. The Grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with you all (2 Cor. 13:14). Thank you again for a wonderful year! Blessings, - Vicar

Dear friends in Christ at Prince of Peace, Vicarage, the year-long internship of the aspiring pastor, goes by all too quickly. I must now return to the Fort Wayne seminary to finish out the last of my classes and, Lord willing, receive a call into the pastoral ministry. The practical experience that I have gained here will serve me well for the rest of my life. The relationships that I and Teffie have formed with you are a blessing to us; thank you.

Summer Office Hours The office will be open Monday through Friday from 8:00a-12:00 noon each day during the summer months. We will resume regular office hours on August 1.

“Mighty Fortress” VBS VBS was a huge success! We learned that God’s Word is

true and in Jesus the victory is won! Our journey though the fortress taught us that we have nothing to fear God is our refuge and strength, and Jesus is our Savior King through biblical stories of Jericho’s walls tumbling down. Jesus entering Jerusalem on a donkey, and His death and resurrection to win the victory over sin! The children played fun games, created spectacular crafts, and prepared and ate delicious snacks. Special thanks to Whitney Mattila for her artistic skills in decorating our opening/closing set. Special recognition goes to Thrivent Financial for Lutherans this year for aiding in the cost of the dinners provided to the families each evening. Thank you to all who sponsored a child with a monetary donation. Additional thanks to those who volunteered their time to make our VBS week a success: Pastor Janssen Laurie Johnson Sharon Raney Elayna Trejo

In addition, thank you to those who provided delicious desserts each night for our workers: Penny Rinehart, Paula Yocum, Lyna Rinehart, and Heather Hully.

Electronic giving

at

Prince of Peace

Prince of Peace wants to remind you that we offer elec-tronic giving through Vanco Services as a way to automate your regular weekly offering. Electronic giving offers convenience for individual congregation members and provides much-needed donation consistency for our congregation. Direct Debit Giving is used to automatically transfer funds from your checking or savings account to the church’s bank account. You can choose the frequency of your donation and even allocate your offering to different funds. It is easy to set up and change if necessary. (The office needs three business days to make changes to an existing account.) Authorization forms are in the wall rack in the narthex. Contact the church office for more information.
