Don’t forget to use ‘robot arms’ or ‘firework’ arms when sounding out words. Maths – Mon-Fri This week we will focus on subtraction. In Reception children learn about different ways to subtract. We use objects such as toys, cubes, counters and food to practically subtract (take away). We model to the children how to write a number sentence for subtraction e.g. 10-3= and then when they are confident with subtraction, we encourage them to write their own number sentences. As children become more confident with using objects to subtract, they will then begin to use number lines. Activity time: Here are some ways that you can teach subtraction at home. Log into ‘Mathletics’ and complete an activity. Expressive Arts and Design Design your own rocket using y handprint. Or design your rocket with toilet/kicthen roll.
