Ideas..

This power-point will show you our design ideas for the creation of a sculpture.

We started off by talking to Emma Jones-Holding from Wastebuster on a conference call during our lunch break…

We talked about the competition categories

Then we went online using our ipads to

look for ideas from the internet.

Here are some of the things we found…

.. And this one is RIO at the 2012U.N. Conference on Sustainable Development, These pictures are of sculptures to protest against the environmental waste caused by plastic water bottles.

We Like these plastic bottle sculptures....This one in London...(we like the location - by a famous British landmark)

Mmm..I think we need something fun

They’re Cute

They’re friendly

They’re keen to help out and get to work..

But most of all, they’re silly!!!!..

We wanted something a bit like the Minions from the film, Despicable Me

ALL children love the Minions..

Here are some of the things we found…

We tried out lots of names for our characters

We wanted it to be alliterative and a fun

Pete is a boy plastic bottle holding hands with Penelope the girl sculpture

The characters are in the style of a minion; simple, fun and friendly without actually being a minion

We chose to do a boy and a girl since this would encourage both types of gender to recycle, so it isn’t just a boy thing or a girl thing. Everyone can recycle, no matter

what colour or gender you are.

We thought fun characters would encourage children and adults to recycle more.We also considered the names ‘The Bubble Busters’ as it sounds similar to Wastebusters and they are fun characters which will remind children the importance of recycling. Children already enjoy recycling, but this sculpture will be eye catching and how a ‘wow’ factor which will get media attention and encourage them to do even more Design options:• They could be built to be very tall (perhaps 5-10m high) in the shapes of

giant drinks bottles• Colour and clothes could be added. They could stand alone or even hang

from a bungee cable• If they were made of strong plastic, water could be added as an option to

make a fountain for children to play under• Information and bottle shaped, recycling bins would be placed in front of

them, telling everyone why it’s important to recycle plastics

We called these sculpture characters Pete and Penelope;

The Plastic Pals!!

We would really love it to be in Southbank underneath the London Eye because it can be seen by everybody

and it will show people from all over the world that our country is

serious about plastic recycling

Where we would like it to be:

Hello!

It would also look great lit up at night
