Some suggested ways Parents are encouraged to allow your child to attempt the

homework on their own. Guide your child, but do not do their homework for them.

Provide structures for students to develop good habits that support independent learning such as teaching them to jot down their homework and packing their bags.

Always work with your child’s teachers first as they are the ones who know your child well.

Train your children to be able to relay information to their teachers & vice versa.

Subject-based Banding (SBB)Because every child is unique, and has different aptitudes, capabilities & talents, SBB was introduced to cater to the different abilities of each child so that we can prepare him/her for life.

The intent of SBB remains unchanged even under the new PSLE scoring system.

Details of the grading for foundation subjects under the new PSLE scoring system will be shared in due course.Find out more at https://www.moe.gov.sg/education/primary/subject-based-banding#sthash.gXvNRB43.dpuf

Page 54: Primary 4 Parent Engagement Session - Ministry of Education

54

What does Subject-based Banding mean for your child ?• Every child will be encouraged to do the

subjects at the levels that best meet hisabilities

• An enhanced approach in providing Student-Centric, Values-Driven Education (SVE)

Page 55: Primary 4 Parent Engagement Session - Ministry of Education

55

How does Subject-based Banding work?

Page 56: Primary 4 Parent Engagement Session - Ministry of Education

This set of school-based criteria serves only as a guide for parents who may consider their child for the 4S1H combination at the end of P4.:80 % and above for English , Math, Science; and

85 % and above for Mother Tongue

*At the end of P5, pupils who scored 75 % or better in MT and have passed HMT can continue to do HMT at P6. If not, they will have to drop HMT at P6.

*Pupils who do not study HMT at P5 will not be allowed to take HMT at P6

4S 1H Combination

Page 57: Primary 4 Parent Engagement Session - Ministry of Education

Use of HCL for Admission into SAP School• HCL results do not count towards the PSLE Score• However if students with the same PSLE Score are vying for limited

places in the same SAP school, those with better HCL grades will be allocated a place ahead of other students.

• The advantage that HCL students will obtain under the new system is similar to that under the current system.
