Literacy
Every week: 1. Log in to your SumDog account and complete the new challenges that we have
set for you in spelling and reading/grammar.
2. Choose an activity from the literacy grid on the school website for
challenges that do not require technology!
Phonics
Here are the Alphablocks helping us to word build.
Alphablocks
This week we are revising the sounds: oo, ar, or, g, o
Daily Phonics Lesson
At 9:30 every morning there will be a lesson available on YouTube to revise
each of these sounds. These videos will be available for 24 hours. Click on the

Word Building Below are ten different words for you to spell this week. They are
differentiated into mild, spicy and hot words. Try one or two mild words first
and if they are too easy for you, move on to try some spicy or hot words!
Remember to use your Fred Fingers to identify all the sounds!
This week you could try:
Playdough Use playdough you have
or make your own to
build your words.
Hit the sounds Write out the sounds
you need and use a
spatula to hit the sounds
to build your word.
Sing them Use your beautiful voice
and sing the sounds to

Handwriting Practise writing oo, ar, or, g, o in cursive handwriting. We have added some
handwriting sheets on the Primary 1 page if you would like to have a go.
Top Tip! You could teach someone in your house how to use magic fingers for
writing in the air or on someone’s back!
Writing
A new Big Writing PowerPoint has been uploaded on to the website with new
ideas to encourage writing at home. There are enough ideas to last until the end
of term, with some left over in case you wish to continue practicing over
Summer. We suggest doing 1 a week 😊
We would love to see which one you choose so please take a photo to send to us
if you can!
Top Tip! Use a lolly pop stick to help you to remember finger spaces if you are
finding them tricky!
Reading
** To be taken to your child’s allocated reading book please log in to Oxford
Owl before clicking the link under your child’s reading group.Thank you! **
Everyone should have received an email from our school admin telling you what
reading group your child is in. Please click on the link under your child’s group to
be taken to their reading book for this week.
Top Tips:
1. Let your child listen to the story first. You can use the audio feature or read
the story to them.
2. Before they read the story, talk to your child about the pictures on each
page.
3. The first page of your child’s reading book has tips about what to do/ask
before, during and after reading. It also highlights words that you may need
to help your child to read.
4. Questions should be completed orally – we do not expect children in P1 to
write down their answers!

Red Words Practice
Red words are words that we can’t sound out using phonics. Your child knows
that these are words that we need to recognise, or they will trick us when we
are spelling or reading!
This week we would like you to learn and practice a new red word!
are
Click the link below to give it a go! 😊
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HPD1SBr5iZw
There are lots of ways you can practise red words at home. Here are some
ideas;
• Ask your child to use each word in a spoken sentence, e.g. I like going to
the park, Chocolate is my favourite treat!
• Build each word out of playdough/sticks/lego/pasta or whatever you have
handy!
• Use pens, paint, chalk or water to practice writing them. Children especially
love going outside to write them as BIG as they can!
• Go on a red word scavenger hunt – write out lots of these red words and
hide them in your house/garden. Once found, can your child read them to
earn a bonus point?
Numeracy!
Every week: 1. Log in to your SumDog account and complete the new challenges that we have
set for you in numeracy/maths.
2. Choose an activity from the SEAL grids on the school websites. These
activities do not require any technology!
Below are some maths and numeracy activities for your child to complete. You
can try to work your way through them all, or just focus on the SEAL Chapter
that your child is working within.
MILD Activities (SEAL Chapter 5)
1. Find heavy objects such as marbles or coins, and a container with a hole at
the top such as a bowl or jar.
Activity: Ask your child to close their eyes and listen and count as you
drop objects into the container. At the end ask how many objects are in
the container. Check by emptying the container and counting them.
2. Roll a die or choose a card. Write the number in one of the boxes, then
finish the number sequence by writing in the missing numbers that come
before and after.
3. Click the link below to play a fun data analysis game. You help Curious
George collect hats and then answer a question about what you collected.
Curious George Hat Game
4. You will need 2 dice to play this game.
SPICY Activities (SEAL Chapter 6)
1. Find the missing number:
10 9 8 7 6 4 3 2 1
15 14 13 11 10 9 8 7 6
13 12 11 10 9 8 7 5 4
24 23 21 20 19 18 17 16 15
2. Using a dice or jumbled up number flashcards, find a number to put in the
box and then write the answer.
1) 8 + =
2) 9 + =
3) 12 + =
4) 14 + =
5) 11 + =
6) 10 + =
7) 13 + =
8) 7 + =
3. Click the link below to play through a game that asks you to weigh
objects to solve problems – it’s quite fun!
Happy Camel Game
Hot Activities (SEAL Chapter 7)
1. Play ‘Number Before’ bingo. Someone will read out a number from 40-61,
and your child will put a counter on the number that comes BEFORE it.
Eg, If the number 53 is called out, your child will put a counter on 52.
2. Write down number bonds which give you the answer 9. For example:
0 + 9 = 9 1 + 8 = 9
Extra: Can you write down number bonds for some other numbers?
3. Click the link below to practice reading two-digit numbers, and then
choose the range of numbers you want to work within:
Blast Off!
For additional challenge, select the blue
button which reads ‘count on and back’.
+ = 9
Health and Wellbeing – Building Resilience Unit 12 Expect the Unexpected!
We are continuing with our ‘Expect the Unexpected’ programme, and we hope
you are finding it helpful.
This week we are learning about ways to look after our mental health. It is just
as important to look after our mental health as it is to look after our physical
health.
Treasure Chest
• Talk to your child about a scenario where someone is experiencing a
difficult or challenging feeling. It could be a time where your child was
experiencing anger or sadness or feeling overwhelmed. • Ask them to think of a treasure chest of ideas they could use to help
them feel better, for example: finding a quiet space, talking to someone
they trust, going outside… • Talk to them about their ideas, what kind of feelings/emotions do you
think they would help us manage? Why do those feelings/emotions need
managing?
Guess The Feelings
Everything Changes
Encourage your child to think about things that change in nature.
They may want to think about the changing seasons or the changes we
see in nature, e.g. tadpoles changing into frogs. You could even talk
about how people change as they grow and get older. You can talk
about these or draw a picture.

Session 7 – Music
Watch:
Click on the link below to watch a video introducing session 7 of
The Lion King Experience
Explore: Read the “Be Prepared” scene from The Lion King KIDS. When you reach the
point in the scene when the song begins, play the “Be Prepared” audio file.
Listen closely to the music and answer the following questions:
• What do you notice about the speed of the song (e.g. is it fast or slow)?
• What do you notice about the melody? How does it make you feel?
• What do the lyrics tell you about the story and the characters?
CREATE:
Now, think about the scene you drew last session. Can you think of a song that
would fit into your scene?
Which character would sing the song?
How should the song make you feel?
Think about what your character would be singing about and create a short song
or beat to sing/perform aloud.
Share: We would love to see photos of you taking part in this project! Don’t forget
that you can upload photos to our school twitter feed or email them to our
school admin!
