INTEGRATED CIRCUITSLS SeriesThe Linx LS Series encoders and decoders provide an extremely simple, yet reliable, protocol for the transmission of switchclosures or button contacts. This series can find use in any basic, low-cost remote control application. Simply take a data line highon the encoder and a corresponding line will go high on the decoder. No programming or addressing is required, making integrationof the LS extremely easy while maintaining a robust link.

MS SeriesMS Series encoders and decoders are ideal for remote control and command, security, keyless entry, and a host of similarapplications. The encoder IC allows the status of up to eight buttons or contacts to be transferred with high level of uniqueness viaan RF or infrared link. The decoder then reproduces the button states on its outputs. The MS Series has several unique featuresthat make it superior to competitive solutions. These include the ability to easily define user groups and assign permissions toindividual output lines. Outputs can be latched or momentary and secure address assignments can be instantly changed withoutcumbersome DIP switches or cut traces. The large, twenty-four bit address size provides for over 16,000,000 unique addresses, making transmissions highly unique and secure, and minimizing the possibility of multiple devices having conflicting addresses. The decoder can learn up to 40 different encoders and outputs the originating encoder ID for logging or identification. Housed intiny 20-pin SSOP packages, MS Series parts feature low supply voltage and low current consumption.

INTEGRATED CIRCUITSHS Series - Encoder and Decoder with CipherLinx®

Encrypted Remote Control TechnologyHS Series encoders and decoders are designed to provide maximum security for Remote Keyless Entry (RKE) and remote controlapplications. The series consists of an encoder that will encode the status of up to 8 buttons or contact closures into a highlysecure encrypted transmission, and a decoder that will decode, authenticate, and replicate the button or contact states. The seriesuses CipherLinx® encrypted remote control technology, which is based on a core algorithm developed by the United States NationalSecurity Agency (NSA), which is considered one of the most secure encryption algorithms available. One of the key features ofCipherLinx® technology is that it will never send or accept the same packet twice. This alone makes it more secure than the popular“rolling code” type devices, which could repeat packets multiple times. Furthermore, CipherLinx® changes codes on every packet, not just every button press. In addition to offering state-of-the-art security, the parts also offer innovative features, including up to8 data lines, multiple baud rates, individual “button level” user permissions, an optional keypad PIN, encoder identity output, lowpower consumption and easy “programming free” setup. The compelling combination of security, features, and ease of use makethe HS Series the logical choice for all high-security RKE applications.

MT SeriesThe MT Series transcoder IC provides unprecedented features for bi-directional remote control and command applications. Encoderand decoder ICs are commonly used to allow the status of inputs, such as switch or button closures, to be sent in one directionacross a wireless link. While the MT can perform these basic uni-directional functions with ease, it also allows the bi-directionalexchange of information and reception confirmation.

The transcoder provides eight lines which can be configured as inputs or outputs. The outputs can be individually set for latchedor momentary operation. Recognition of the individual outputs can be easily defined for each device by the manufacturer or enduser. This allows the creation of user groups, relationships, and permissions. A large twenty-four bit address size makes transmissionshighly unique, minimizing the possibility of conflict between multiple devices. An automatic confirmation indicates that the transmissionwas successfully received. The MT also outputs the ID of the originating transcoder for logging or identification.

A Serial Interface Engine (SIE) allows the transcoder to be configured and controlled from an external microcontroller or PC.Permissions and users can be configured, modes and functions set, and external data added to the transmission. A targetingfeature allows commands to be directed to specific devices. The MT is housed in a tiny 20-pin SSOP package, and features lowsupply voltage, current consumption and selectable baud rates. It is also compatible with Linx MS Series encoder and decoder ICs.

Features:• Bi-directional control• Automatic confirmation• Secure 224 possible addresses• 8 status lines• Serial Interface Engine (SIE)• Latched and/or momentary outputs• Definable recognition authority

INTERNAL ANTENNAS

HE Series antennas are designed for direct PCB mounting. Thanks to the HE’s compact size, they are ideal for internal concealmentinside a product’s housing. The HE is also very low in cost, making it well suited to high-volume applications.*NOTE* HE Series antennas have a very narrow bandwidth (approximately 10MHz of the specified center frequency); thus, care in placement andlayout is required. In addition, they are not as efficient as whip-style antennas, so they are generally better suited for use on the transmitter endwhere attenuation is often required anyway. Use on both transmitter and receiver ends is recommended only in instances where a short range (<30%of whip style) is acceptable.

The Splatch uses a grounded-line technique to achieve outstanding performance from a tiny surface mount element. This uniqueantenna is designed for hand- or reflow-mounting directly to a product’s circuit board. Its low cost makes it ideal for volumeapplications. Unlike many compact antennas, the Splatch exhibits good proximity performance, making it an appropriate choicefor handheld applications such as remote controls, pagers, and alert devices.

ADDITIONAL SERVICESLinx works to simplify any step in the RF implementation process that may cause a customer delay or frustration. While Linxdoes not participate in the actual design of a customer’s product or perform contract RF design services, Linx does offer a widerange of support services designed to assist a customer in achieving legality and to maximize the performance of ourcomponents. These services include:

FCC Pre-screen ServicesThe most difficult obstacle to overcome when bringing an RF-based product tomarket, aside from the design itself, is the approval process. To ensure a customerthe best opportunity to pass FCC testing, Linx offers unique low-cost pre-compliancetesting services. With this service, a product is screened just as it will be duringactual FCC testing. In addition to this screen, the actual design is evaluated by aLinx engineer to ensure that it is both legal and technically optimized. A pre-screenreport is then generated summarizing our findings and recommendations. Thisreport, along with additional documentation, will further ease your preparations forfinal approval testing.

Antenna Design AssistanceLinx offers a wide variety of standard antenna styles that will meet the needs of most user’s applications.Occasionally, a design will call for a custom antenna to meet physical or cosmetic constraints. Since thedesign of application-specific antennas calls for experience and equipment outside the scope of many ofour customers, Linx offers antenna design services. These services range from assistance in evaluationof a customer’s antenna configuration to actual antenna design. One of our most popular design specialtiesis small printed antennas, which are often incorporated directly on a PCB to reduce cost and eliminate avisible antenna.

Implementation AssistanceLinx does not undertake OEM design projects in most instances; however, our engineershave broad experience in almost every area of design and manufacturing. Linx is pleased tooffer our customers the benefit of that experience as it pertains to the integration of Linx RFproducts into a product design.

EducationAt Linx, we believe that our best customer is an informed customer. That is why ourcomprehensive manuals are supported by an online knowledge base and a growing libraryof informative application notes. Backed by the assistance of experienced support personnel, each customer has an opportunity to learn about our products and the basic principles of RF.

Internet SiteIf you have questions regarding any Linx product and have internet access, makewww.linxtechnologies.com your first stop. Our website is organized in an intuitiveformat to give you the answers you need.
