Agenda
ORKLA’S PLASTIC STRATEGY RESPONSE
MAIN POINTS
Orkla as an owner over 200 years old brands
16th of January 2018 EU Comission agreed with plastic raw strategy. The New Plastics Economy is an ambitious, three-year initiative to build momentum towards a plastics system that works. Led by the Ellen MacArthur Foundation, it is applying the principles of the circular economy and brings together key stakeholders to rethink and redesign the future of plastics, starting with packaging.

Main targets of this strategy till 2030Y:• all plastic packaging on the EU market should to be recyclable,• 60% of plastic packaging should to be reused or later processed,• the consumption of disposable plastics will be limited,• there will be restrictions on the intentional use of plastic microfine in products.
The strategy will develop detailed legal regulations that cover all sectors, including the cosmetics sector.

ORKLA approach towards sustainable packaging

HOW TO TRYELIMINATE PLASTICFROM PACKAGING
COSMETIC PRODUCTS
More natural materials used in packaging (wood, cardboard)
More packaging from environmental friendly materials (glass)
Simple unified packaging
2 in 1 – one packaging for 2 formulations
Replaceable packaging components (cartridges)
More refills on the shelves instead of bottles
Use of post-production or post-consumer plastics
Rum brand Fitzroy decided to create eye-catching, marble-like bottle caps using the red Coca-Cola wrappers found polluting Dutch beaches in January 2017. The bottle is also made from recycled glass.

HOW MANYDIRECTIONS WE HAVE?
Come back to non-packaging sale | One step back allows to make 2 steps forward

• we will not need printed packaging because communication moves to digitalsignage
• on packaging will be printed only QR code or code for special application (likeArilyn). Packaging rules will change, still will be marketing tool but more in productadvertisement direction
• the fastest way to deliver product to customer will dictate the type of packaging
• in case of drons transport packaging should be as light as possible (maybe even filled or with the addition of helium)?
• maybe we will not need eye-catching POS tools and creative displays solutions
Shopping in 2027 and packaging solutions
FUTURE OF PACKAGING ENGINEERS AND MANAGERS WILL BE GREEN!
Resuming both presented future shopping solutions I am sure that…..
BECAUSE WE WILL HAVE NO JOB!
• eliminate unnecessary single-use plastic packaging
• stop using unsuitable for recycling packaging raws during creating packagingdesign
• educate customers about sustainability and smart consumption
• packaging manufacturers must live up to their increased significance and responsibility and propose sustainable packaging solutions
• giving packaging possibility of second live, thinking about this from the beginning of packaging creation
• decrease consumption & stop buying
What can we do for our future and sustainability?
Our common goal
