British Car Day 2016 What a great weekend! Thanks to Diane for putting together the event, Millie and Irene and Grace, Michael, and Mert for doing so much. I received a lot of nice comments from the show at-tendees so we know they had a great time. The reception was
wonderful, the decorations were amazing and the venue was truly first class. It takes a lot of work to make things look so good. The food was excellent and the wine tasting by Bottles was really well re-ceived. I am really proud of the kind of event that we as a club put on. Several folks from the other clubs told me, "Boy, we're going to have to step up our game." The grille badges that Mert had made got a lot of oohs and aahs about their fine quality.
The show turned out very well. When you look at the logistics involved in actually making it happen it can be daunting. But everyone pitches in where needed, most of the time without being asked, and takes care of those tasks that make the show go so smoothly. As always, the success of a show depends on the selfless commitment of time and energy by the club members. Melvin Taylor was again indispen-sable when it came to putting together the big tents and getting them up. The general British car com-munity enjoys the fruits of that labor and it speaks volumes about our club. Thanks to Dave and Lynn for stepping in everywhere they were needed, from laying out the show field to helping tally the silent auction stuff. Thanks to Jane and Jim for running the toughest area, the Si-lent Auction tent. You guys are great. Thanks to Millie for toting massive amounts of reception and re-galia cargo to and fro. Her Trailblazer was always packed. Jeff helped get the PA working as well as it could, to my relief. Don did a great job with the membership area. Thanks to Dennis and Tina, Tina es-pecially for doing the ferry service back and forth. I can't thank Richie and his family enough for their help. Taylor and Sam were again indispensable, as they were always ready to help whenever needed and always enthusiastic. Thanks to Mike and Wanda Branch to manning the food tent and bringing Jemeek Rivers, one of Mike's star students with them. The club sponsored Jemeek in the statewide autobody repair competition with ten other schools. He came in second in a close contest in the very difficult repair analysis and cost estimating class. We are proud of the difference that we’ve made in these student’s lives; the club’s support has had a more positive effect on the community than many of the district’s programs. Thanks to Phil and Rosemary for stuffing and toting those great bags, the cool giveaway bags, and for manning the registration tent. Lois Neal sat out in the hot sun directing traffic. That was a lot of work and we really appreciate it. Thanks to the many other club members who stepped in to help out with the setup and tear down. Bruce Stemerman made sure everything on the financial side stayed on course, his help was invaluable. I especially appreciate the help that Susanne and I received on Saturday afternoon after the show. I was sorry we missed meeting at My Father's Mustache for dinner but when we got the trailer loaded up with all the tents and show stuff, our Trailblazer refused to start. Charlie Hall stepped up and we used his truck to get the trailer to the storage bin. Melvin, Charlie, Bob Simons and myself unloaded the trailer and got the show stuff secured in the bin. My deepest appreciation to those three guys for sticking around and making sure we got the job done. We had our Trailblazer towed to the repair shop so we're good to go. The British Car Club of Charleston is a class act, and the members make it that way. It is gratifying that other clubs look to us as the standard to go by. Charleston is a unique area and we, as a unique club, contribute to what makes Charleston so interesting and special. I am proud to be a member of a club made up of such wonderful people. Safety Fast!

Mt. Pleasant Christmas Parade Sunday December 11th
The BCCC is once again entered in the Town of Mt. Pleasant Christmas Parade. All club members are invited to participate. Wray and Susanne will host the club at the Coleman garage for a chili and fixings supper party while members decorate their cars. All cars must have lights on them, the more the better. You have plenty of time to pick up a set of battery powered lights or to rig an inverter to power your decorations. The Town loves lots of lights, so have at it.
We meet at the Coleman garage no later than 4:30; the Town closes Coleman Blvd at that time. After 4:30 you must come to the garage via Houston Northcutt Blvd. The festivities start at 5:30, but we usually don't start rolling until around 6:00pm or so.
Bring a dessert or appetizer if you want, but we'll have everything else.
This is a great event and a lot of fun and we promise you will enjoy it. It's a great way to start the Christ-mas season.

Cars and Coffee October 1st
By Mike West
It was a perfect top down and British Car weather as about fifteen British Cars made the trek over to Mount Pleasant for the weekly Cars and Coffee (C2) and (alleged) Brit Car gathering. Fun it was with MGs from the 50s to the 70s and Jaguars from the same era. A couple of Triumphs and a crowd of Minis plus a Healey or two rounded out the dis-play and a lonely Lotus looking for a mate, sat under the oaks wishing there were other Lotii there! The usual Bentley did not make the trip, but Mert Fox was there with the new badges and they are really beautiful! The also come with mounting hardware, so you can mount them anywhere on your car, garage or armpit!! Very well made badges for only 25 bucks at that! Remember, every Saturday it is C2 in Mount Pleasant even if there is-n't a special place set aside for the Brits!
Myrtle Beach Britfest By Jack and Diane
Saturday, October 1st was a cloudy, cool morning as we dusted off the MG and headed to Myrtle Beach to be part of the Grand Strand British Car Club’s Fourth Annual Britfest. The early morning drive was unobstructed with quiet roads most of the way to The Mar-ket Common.
Once we arrived, the field was bustling with cars rolling in, about 70 I think, Club mem-bers greeting and welcoming all to the show and just an overall feeling of anticipation of a Brit car fun filled day.
We were greeted by Phil and Rosemary Odom who were doing their part to promote our BCD by handing out flyers to attendees. We heard Don Kelly was there, but unfortunate-ly, we didn’t see him. Evidently, Mike and Nancy Carnell were also there, but again, we didn’t see them. In fact, I didn’t know they were there until they announced that their Spitfire won a trophy. I accepted it for them, and if they don’t claim it soon, I’ll simply add it to Jack’s collection.
As the show was wrapping up, the clouds burned off, and it got a bit warm. In this case, timing is everything, and the timing for the sun to shine brightly was later in the day when the show was wrapping up. Of course, this made for a great drive back to Mt. Pleasant with a couple of stops at antique shops along the way.
As always, it was great to see friends we’ve made through the years, and of course to appreciate the cars. Overall, I think they had another successful Britfest, and I look forward to reciprocating their hospitality.

British Car Day Wrap-up By Dave Rosato
The day started in a fog, only seeing part of the Ravenel Bridge when we crossed it. But it didn’t take long to burn off and start cooking the field. It turned out to be a warn but gorgeous day, ideal for a car show. We started with 77 registered cars and by 11am we had 103. As each car came in, Wendell Hall took a picture of them in front of the British Car Day sign. Be sure to check them out on the BCCC website. There is a link on the front page to view all the pictures of the entrants as well as the trophy winners. There are also many more pictures. I do want to apologize for any mistakes. It was at times a struggle getting the photos to match the person. So please let me know if you find an error and I’ll fix it.

And amongst all the goings on at British Car Day:
Having the College of Charleston Quidditch team give a demonstration was a wonderful idea, Diane. Thank you.
Our neighbor, Patrick, and his sons Charlie and Oliver (ages approx. 7 & 9) attended and thoroughly enjoyed seeing the cars but also especially enjoyed the game. The college kids were so great. They not only took the time to explain the game to bystanders but also to Charlie and Oliver. They then played a match with the two kids, each kid in charge of a team, letting Charlie and Oliver pick their own team mates! The boys were ear to ear grins. And papa Patrick (who is raising these two young boys on his own) wanted to give the BCCC special thanks.
This was very heart warming. Not only seeing Charlie and Oliver enjoy watching and play-ing the game, but also for all of us to see those college kids have the "big hearts" to take the time to engage the little kids that way. Maybe there is hope for America yet! (A desperately needed and welcome hope, especially this particular week as we near elec-tions.)
The second story related to this …
Someone on the Quidditch team apparently brought a dog. The dog was tethered to a line tied to one of those heavy metal screws with a sharp point on the end that you screw into the ground. Well, the dog got so excited, wanting to run and play with the team that he/she PULLED the heavy metal screw out of the ground and took off running, trailing the dangerously heavy pointy screw as it bounced and swung at the end of the tether. It was dangerous to even try to catch the dog because of his heavy pointy screw swinging and hurling through the air.
And the dog headed straight towards the show cars !!!
You can imagine what a scary sight that was for us car owners / lovers !
Thankfully somehow the dog was stopped before it got into the midst of the lineup.
For that and our many other blessings of that great day, we are grateful!
Team Lemke
Palace Guard Irene Breland and Millie Horton
We would like to thank everyone who participated in the “Where’s the Guard?” contest in the weeks prior to British Car Day. Each week it was fun to see who all emailed their guess as to the Guard’s location. Both Michael Carnell (BCCC’s founder) and Brian Smart (artist for the T-shirt design) correctly identified the 5 locations and were awarded BCCC hats for their correct answers. Special thanks also goes to Dave Rosato who post-ed each week’s photo of the mystery location.

Directions
Puree the garlic and ginger in a food processor or blender with 1/4 cup water. Toast the corian-
der and cumin seeds in a small skillet over medium-high heat until fragrant, about 3 minutes, and
then pulse until finely ground in a spice grinder.
Whisk together 2 tablespoons of the ginger-garlic puree, 2 teaspoons of the cumin-coriander
mixture, the yogurt, 1 1/2 teaspoons of the paprika, the lemon juice, 1/2 teaspoon of the sugar,
1/4 teaspoon of the turmeric, the cayenne, 1 teaspoon salt and 1/4 teaspoon black pepper. Toss in
the chicken to coat and then cover the bowl with plastic wrap and marinate in the refrigerator
for 2 to 4 hours.
Heat the butter in a Dutch oven or heavy-bottomed wide pot over medium heat. Add the onions
and serrano peppers and cook until the onions are soft and tender, about 5 minutes. Stir in 2 ta-
blespoons of the ginger-garlic puree and the remaining cumin-coriander mixture, paprika and tur-
meric constantly for about 3 minutes to cook the spices, and then add the remaining 1 teaspoon
sugar, the tomatoes with all their juice and 1 1/2 cups water. Gently simmer partially covered for
25 minutes over medium-low heat.
Preheat the broiler. Scrape off the excess marinade from the chicken thighs and lay them
spaced apart on a rack placed over a baking sheet. Lightly sprinkle the chicken with salt and place
5 inches from the broiler. Broil for about 5 minutes, and then flip the chicken pieces and broil
until the chicken is just cooked through and registers 165 degrees F on a meat thermometer, 3
minutes longer. Transfer to a large bowl. Stir the cream and garam masala into the sauce and
simmer for an additional 5 minutes. Pour over the chicken and stir in the cilantro, combining to
coat the chicken. Divide evenly among 4 plates and serve with steamed rice.
Ingredients
5 cloves garlic, roughly chopped
One 1 1/2-inch coin ginger, peeled and
roughly chopped
2 teaspoons coriander seeds
2 teaspoons cumin seeds1 cup Greek yogurt
3 teaspoons paprika
2 teaspoons lemon juice (about 1/2 lemon)
1 1/2 teaspoons sugar
1/2 teaspoon ground turmeric
1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper
Chicken Tikka Masala Lynn Rosato
Kosher salt and freshly ground black pepper
1 1/2 pounds boneless, skinless chicken thighs,
halved into large chunks
3 tablespoons unsalted butter
1 medium onion, finely chopped
1 serrano pepper, with or without seeds, thinly
sliced into half moons
One 28-ounce can whole peeled tomatoes, quar-
tered
1/4 cup heavy cream
1 1/2 teaspoons garam masala
2 tablespoons chopped fresh cilantro
Steamed white rice, for serving
Chicken Tikka Masala was invented in London and is often referred to as the British national dish. It gets its bold flavors from aromatic spices, like cayenne, cumin and turmeric, evocative of Indian cuisine. Soak up the sauces of this rich and creamy dish with warm naan bread.
