Previous Student Work: Johnny Fonseca
Johnny Fonseca completed his AS coursework in 2013. I have picked his
work to analyse to my own media coursework, as he did the same music genre as I'm doing on this year for my
AS media.

Johnny’s blog has an easy layout to find all his work and
information that he provided on his ‘research’ category. He
created his blog on Blogger as it’s an easy website to create your own blog and share your media
work. He mainly posts his research work with an image and
writing next to it or even text format, by using Scribd or even as a Jpeg from InDesign, which is a different method to display your
work.
There is nine posts under the category ‘Research’, this is the first step where the student has to start thinking about the magazine they
are creating and what they have to start to research to put on their
blog and to give the student a bit more of knowledge about media industry especially in magazines. Johnny has done his research very well with a clear understanding,
however they are text based.
The double page spread post has been done very well, as he has
picked a variety of different magazines to analyse it from and
to have different ideas from different music magazines. Its easy to read the post and to know what section belongs to what as he used a clear font and size for the reader to read. The way he displayed it is also nice and clear as he used a different method so all his posts
don’t all look the same.
The first post that appears after pressing the category ‘Planning’ is the most eye catching, as
he showed his images he took for his magazine as contact sheets into individual images, which are shown very clear and easy to have a read about it. This category has thirty posts and it highlights
the time and all his work he as put onto the process of him planning for his R&B magazine.
I like this specific post because it shows his photography skills and displaying skills as he finds a way of demonstrating his images all at once. It is
also interesting the fact that he still comments about his work and he process of taking the pictures with his own discussing. This also
provided him with more ideas for what his final magazine could potentially look like and how he
can recreate the music genre, R&B, onto a magazine.
The category ‘Evaluation’ has seven
posts and its all his typed explanation
and discussing and process
about his magazine, this
time he just displayed in a different way and in a more digital way.
The evaluation is a long
process that you go
through after doing all your
research, planning,
drafting and your final magazine.
Evaluation is potentially the one area that you have to
explain everything
you have done through this course. So because
Johnny’s post are all mainly text based, he
did his evaluation
using Adobe InDesign, the
same programme he would use to make his final magazine. He done a little magazine for
each evaluation
question with two pages of more written
with text. Overall, this showed his media skills through his
evaluation as a media student.
The category ‘Final’ has two posts which is of his final magazine and a special edition magazine front
cover. He has represented the R&B genre very well and in a very
original way. The use of model also focuses on the idea of being R&B like and dark skin tone too. She’s represented in a the right way for his magazine target audience. I really like the use of layout on every page. The fonts and text size is also very similar to any music magazine as he gave his
own R&B twitch to it, which makes his work more original. Also the
use of colour scheme portrays and its every easy to tell that his
magazine is an R&B magazine for and older audience. His magazine is perfect and me as a student I
can see his knowledge and use of InDesign and Photoshop, which is
very impressive for a AS student at this point in media studies.
