    I. Care of the GuitarronYour guitarron costs SfSOO to 52000. lt must be treated with much care.The following suggestions will help you care for your guitarron:

    Place case on the floor so that the lid will open upward.Undo latches and lift lid up.Take hold of the instrument by grabbing the neck of the instrument.Close the case lid, latch it, and place case in storage room.When finished playing open case lid, take out cleaning cloth and clean your instrument.Place instrument baek into the case the same way you found it.Place cleaning cloth on top of your instrument.Close lid and latch case. lnstrument must be secure inside case and must not move inside case.Never play in the rain or allow water on your guitarron. Water will damage your instrument.Keep your instrument looking new by cleaning it often.Do not leave your guitarron in the car. Hot temperatures will melt glue and crack wood.Never leave your guitarron alone. Always take your instrument with you wherever you go.Never let anyone borrow your instrument. lt may come back broken or you not get it back.

    II. Maintaining the GuitarronYou will neecj the foliowing items to keep your guitarron weii maintaineci:

    GUITARRON STRAP - holds instrument in placeEXTRA GUITARRON STRINGS - in case strings breakCLEANING CLOTH - to keep dust, grease, and oil off your instrumentELECTRONIC TUNER - to tune your notes before you practice and/or playFOLDING MUSIC STAND - Have one at home or when needed while performing.

  • Pluck open 3'd c Stringlf pitch is flat (lower) turn tuning key away to tighten string until tuner light turns green.lf pitch is sharp (hisher) turn tuning key toward you to loosen string until tuner light turns green.

    Pluck open 2nd E stringlf pitch is flat (lower)turn tuning key away to tighten string untiltuner light turns green.lf pitch is sharp (higher) turn tuning key toward you to loosen string until tuner light turns green.

    Pluck open 1th A' Stringlf pitch is flat (lower) turn tuning key away to tighten string until tuner light turns green.lf pitch is sharp (higher) turn tuning key toward you to loosen string until tuner light turns green.

    VI. Holding the GuitarronAdjust strap so that the back of the guitarron is on your chest.The guitarron should be at a 45 degree angle.The guitarron head is in line with your eyes.Your left thumb is on the back of the neckOther left hand fingers come up from under the neck ready to push down the strings on finger board.Right hand is above the strings in front of the sound hole.The guitarron strings vibrate perpendicular to the soundboard.Therefore, the guitarron strings are pulled by the right hand thumb, index and middle finger.

    VII. Guitarron Technique: The Left HandThe left hand fingers will press down on the strings.The left thumb is placed behind the neck.Other left hand fingers come up from under the neck ready to push down the strings on finger board.

    VIII. Guitarron Technique: The Right HandThe right hand thumb, index and middle fingers will pull up and release the strings.When releasing the strings the right wrist relaxes to avoid fatigue.

    ResponsibilitiesALWAYS DO YOUR BEST in everything you even outside mariachi class!NEVER ASSUME--ASK QUESTIONS if unsure about anything or do not understand!DON'T TAKE THINGS PERSONALIY... Accept constructive criticism.THINK BEFORE YOU SPEAK... Give constructive criticism.Have a pencil, manuscript and writing paper to take notes.Have a binder to keep all music in alphabetical order.Practice your music and learn to play it with few or no mistakes.All music should be memorized.Give your best effort to be at every rehearsal and performances. Mariachi is a team activity.Always care for your instrument. Get your own accessories and supplies.Always care of your traje/mariachi outfit. Keep it dry and neatly hung in the uniform bag.Practice your parts at home everyday at least 20 - 30 minutes.

    SingingAll mariachi musicians sing!When a soloist sings the groups plays softer.Mariachi musicians play out their parts when not singing.Singing requires singing out with plenty of air: fill lungs by using the diaphragm, open your

    mouth, stand straight, feet slightly apart, knees relaxed, chest out, shoulders relaxed, jaw

    relaxed, head and face are straight ahead.Sing out strong, projected, and controlled, not loud or shouting.Sing to the audience. Look at the audience and SMILE!

    Class/Rehearsal EtiquetteFollow teacher directions! Always have a positive and cooperative attitude.No food, drinks, or gum allowed in the music room.Bring your own pencil and music to rehearsals. Do not have anyone hold your music for you.Back packs, book, purses should be in cubby holes or designated places.

    Tune your instrument before rehearsal begins.Rehearsal means practicing the repertoire as a group or ensemble.When asked to practice on your own or in a sectional, PRACTICE. Talking wastes time.Know your music/part/song before rehearsal. We do not practice your part during rehearsal.Make sure you have your own accessories: extra strings, rosin, rosin cleaner, cleaning

    cloth, shoulder rest, valve oil, mutes, straps, picks, etc...Clean your instrument after practicing, rehearsing, or performing.During rehearsal and performances we PLAY, PLAY, PLAY and SING, SING, SING!!!lf you need music get it before or after rehearsal. Do not ask for music during a rehearsal! !!After rehearsal all instruments and music are stored properly and the music hall is left neat.Do not leave your music inside the case with the instrument.

    Performance EtiquetteDuring a performance there is no talking or playing around on stage.Wear your complete traje with pride.Help set up chairs/stands before a performance. Help tear down chairs/stands after a performance.

    Audience EtiquetteBEHAVE AND ACT PROPERLY!!! Encourage all participants. Applaud enthusiastically for all participants.
