FROM EDITOR’S DESK I just love retail therapy. I love shopping for almost anything. Food, accessories, cosmetics, toys, gifts, etc. A little bit of exercise that I get is mainly from shopping. My family gets puzzled when I get overly excited by spotting a new mall or shopping complex.

I also tend to go from mall to mall because I love Stuttafords in Woodlands, Game in Menlyn, beauty Spa in Moreleta, sea food in Hatfield, coffee in Eastwood (Arcadia), nightlife in Fashion TV (Brooklyn), Bookshop in Kolonade (Montana), My doctor’s rooms in Barclay Square (Sunnyside), occasional trips to Waverly Plaza, for Indian food which got replaced by Hazeldean. My heart broke when I noticed that they opened “the Groove Shopping Mall” in Lynwood Road, close to where I lived in Pretoria East. It’s cool enough to make any cool girl go bananas.

A word of warning: You have to afford it. If you are not strong enough, leave your credit card at home and carry cash. There is no habit as bad as accumulating debt. SHOO, Now that I managed to get that warning note out of the way, I can get back to the exciting stuff, the shopping spree mood. Save this eBook in your desktop. Whenever you feel a need to explore a new mall, open your shopping guide and go have a cup of coffee in an unfamiliar setting. How exciting is that. Even better, go alone or take a good friend. We will update this guide as often as we can. Printing it is not ideal as we will be adding new information often. Check our website for other shopping, dining and entertainment ideas. Arcadia is close to the city centre and hosts the popular and gorgeous union buildings and the President's residence. It is also a home to very nice hotels, guesthouses and apartments. Residents are most likely students, young couples or professionals because of its proximity with the city centre, government departments, universities, embassies and the most popular Pretoria stadium, Loftus Versfeld Stadium. All 3 universities are easily accessible. The suburb is also home to most embassies with presence in South Africa. They are mostly in the Eastern part of the suburb. You will be spoilt for choice in the 3 malls close to each other in Beatrix Street and one close to embassies.

Sunnyside Below are all the shopping malls in Sunnyside. Try the revamped Sunnypark, you won’t regret it. Its spotless and woolies foods always adds a great spot for grocery shopping. I also spotted a fresh looking beauty salon and movie spot.

FEATURE MALL: SUNNYPARK

Sunnyside is probably the busiest suburb of Pretoria. It is a walking distance to Pretoria city centre. The Eastern parts of the suburb are a stone throw away from University of Pretoria and Loftus Versfeld Stadium. This is where rugby fans meet for matches every so often, soccer players practice and a lot of other important events. Off course in 2010 this stadium will be hosting the world. You are likely to meet students and young professionals in Sunnyside. With years, the population is getting younger and the shops are being revamped to fit in. Exciting investments include new up market hotels.

Shopping in Pretoria is great. Whether you choose a mall, a flea market, you are just likely to fall in love with this city. Take your camera with when you visit the city centre. The architecture and history behind the buildings is amazing. We love the city hall in the image to your left. And its just one of them. You will struggle to get over the church square. The diplomats’ favourite area is an old and well established suburb. The area is known as old eastern suburbs. It’s close to the city enough to provide convenience and far enough to keep its “peace and quiet” feel preserved. For lovely dinning experience and decent night life, be found in Brooklyn suburb.
