the Pressureaide® car is designed for ease in unloading, requiring only one person to hookup and unload. a singlehose is required for total pressurization of the car and only one line is needed for product discharge. the hatchesremain closed during unloading, keeping the lading dry and sanitary. Each hopper features approximately 14 squarefeet of fluidizing area for initiating and maintaining flow while providing complete cleanout. the membranes aremade of a durable low cost cloth which is easy to remove and replace.
1.Prior to Hook-up Inspect to Ensure That:
notE: Before unloading car, see “operating manual” for complete unloading instructions.
CAUTION Car pressure must be zerobefore car is shipped.
a. all hatch covers are secure.b. all product valves are closed.c. there is no pressure on thecar body or the manifold byventing the car body throughthe blowdown valve and open-ing one fluidizing valve.d. inspect pressure gaugesto insure they are intact.
4.Unloading - when pressure is reached:
a. open the by-pass air valveon end of car being unloadedto full open position.b. open the product valve tostart unloading.c. adjust both valves toachieve best product flow andbest air/product mixture. longconveying lines generallyrequire more by-pass air toassist conveying while less by-pass air is required for shortconveying distances.
i. When final compartment isunloaded, close all productvalves and fluidizing airvalves, open both by-pass airvalves and blow conveyinglines clean. turn off blower.
d. a rapid drop in car bodypressure indicates that thecompartment is empty. Closethe by-pass and productvalves while continuing to sup-ply air. open and close theproduct valve on about twenty-second intervals four or fivetimes for final cleanout.
e. Close product valve.f. open fluidizing air valveon next compartment andclose fluidizing air valve oncompartment just finished.g. allow carbody pressure torebuild to 14.0 to 14.5 psi.
j. Depressurize the carbody and manifold by vent-ing the car body through theblowdown valve and open-ing one fluidizing valve.k. Disconnect hookupswhen pressures have beenreduced to zero. Closeblowdown valve and secureproduct line and air inletdust caps prior to shipping.
h. repeat steps “a” through“g”.
3. Pressurization
a. open fluidizing air valveon first compartment to beunloaded (start from oneend of car).
b. start blower and pressur-ize car to 14.0 to 14.5 psi.monitor car pressure usingcar body pressure gauge.
2.Hook-Up
a. remove dust cap onproduct line and connectproduct conveying line.b. remove dust cap fromair inlet line and connect airsupply line.c. Close all valves includingthe blowdown valve.

the Pressureaide® coveredhopper car was engineeredwith safety in mind. Pressuregauges monitor the car bodyand the air inlet manifold pres-sures. safety valve settingsensure safe operation; the carbody pressure relief valve isset at 14.5 psi, the air inletpressure relief valve is set at16.0 psi, the car body rupturedisc is set at 20 psi and thevacuum relief valve is set at -0.25 psig.
since the hatches remainclosed during unloading, it isnot necessary to climb to thetop of the car before or duringthe unloading process.
the Pressureaide® car isdesigned to make dry bulk
handling safe, easy, cleanand fast.
the Pressureaide® car isequipped with eight (8)hatches, all located on thecenter line of the car result-ing in faster and more effi-cient loading. all models ofthe Pressureaide® havehatch openings and bulk-head cutouts arranged sothat the car may be com-pletely loaded through twohatches.
the hatch covers aredesigned to provide a pres-sure tight con-taminationproof seal for maximum lad-ing protection. the coversare cast aluminum with amachined gasket seat. thegaskets are fDa approvedwhite neoprene. six corro-sion resistant cam locklatches and an automaticsafety device are utilized tocreate a positive and safeseal between the cover andcar body.
the car’s hatches are com-pat-ible with existing loadingfacilities. loading boots, fil-ters and dust exhausts maybe easily attached to thehatch rings.

the Pressureaide® coveredhopper car is specificallydesigned for the shippingand handling of a wide vari-ety of dry bulk products.the car can operate withinternal pressures up to 14.5psi which allows for fastunloading of the product toremote receiving bins. itcan often be operated withthe same blowers used tounload hopper cars present-ly unloaded with pressuresleds. since thePressureaide® car operates similar to common pressuredifferential highway trailers, plant and trucking personnelfamiliar with such equipmentdo not need special equip-ment or instructionto operate the car.
the Pressureaide® car features the famousCenter flow® design. it has a clean bore interior with no center sill or carlines. it’s round-ed roof is designed to coincide to a much largerdegree with the natural angle of repose of thelading. as a result, it fills to 97% of its cubiccapacity. the capacities of the Pressureaide®
car range from 5000 cubic feet to 5750 cubicfeet, which optimizes gross rail loads for a widevariety of products.
