Fade In:

ACT ONE

EXT. BIKER BAR -- NIGHT

Dark and dangerous. A late model Ford Taurus parked in theshadows.

CLIFF KINGMAN sits behind the wheel. He's a wiry, thirdrate criminal in his late twenties, in and out of jail sincereform school.

A HULKING BIKER struts over to the car -- a small gym bagclutched in his paw. A FELLOW BIKER stands guard nearby.

The Biker hands the bag through the car window to Cliff --who passes it to his PASSENGER.

RUDY WICKER examines the contents of the bag. He is leanand hard -- a two time loser who's not going back for athird stretch.

Cliff hands the Biker and envelope stuffed with cash. TheBiker checks it. Satisfied, he leaves.

CLIFFI told you Kenny would come through.

RUDYWe'll see.

Cliff drives off.

EXT. GRIFFIN HOME -- NIGHT

Mature trees line a quiet middle class suburban neighborhoodstreet -- the homes modest and neat.

Parked in the driveway of the Griffin home is a road weary

Winnebago Chieftain motor home.

JED (O.S.)Come on...get up.

INT. GRIFFIN HOME -- NIGHT

JED GRIFFIN stands in the doorway of a bedroom flicking thelight on and off.



SHANE (O.S.)Hey! That hurts my eyes.

In his mid 30's, handsome, a one time collegiate footballall-star, Jed is just your average father trying to makeends meet.

TIFFANY a normally perky ten year old, stumbles by in herpyjamas.

TIFFANYIt's still dark out!

JEDWe need an early start if you wantto get a spot by the lake.

Tiffany disappears into the bathroom as Jed flicks the lighta few more times.

JED (CONT'D)(leaving the lighton)

Come on Shane. Move your butt.

INT. KITCHEN -- NIGHT

HAYLEY GRIFFIN is a fresh faced woman around thirty. She'spacking food for a family holiday.

Jed rolls in and pours himself a coffee.

JEDI don't know what's the matter withShane.

HAYLEYIt's four o'clock in the morning andhe's thirteen.

JEDHe doesn't talk to me aboutanything.

HAYLEYLike I said...he's thirteen.

JEDIt's more than that Hayley.

(sipping the coffee)What's this?

HAYLEYCoffee.



JEDYou know what I mean.

HAYLEYYes I know what you mean Jed. It'sFolger's.

JEDWhat happened to the Blue Mountain?

HAYLEYTwelve dollars a pound is whathappened.

JEDI thought we were mixing it with theColumbian.

HAYLEY

That's nine dollars a pound.

JEDThis tastes like crap.

HAYLEYThen give me some more money forgroceries.

JEDWhat's that supposed to mean?

HAYLEYNothing.

JEDNo...really. Is that some kind ofdig?

HAYLEYLet's forget it.

JEDYou and the kids wanted to go onvacation -- so we're going on

vacation.

HAYLEYI don't think they meant drivingthrough Vermont in a fifteen yearold sweat box.

JEDI fixed the air conditioning.



A banner announcing CASINO NIGHT hangs from the MeadowvaleDistrict Bank.

EXT. TRACY'S DINER -- MORNING

It could be the subject of a Norman Rockwell painting.

INT. TRACY'S DINER -- MORNING

Quaint and cozy.

TRACY HUNT stands behind the counter. She's a naturallooking woman around thirty who needs, and wears littlemakeup.

Across from her on a stool sits BINGHAM HUNT, in theMeadowvale Sheriff's uniform. Her husband is a man in hisforties, equally at home in front of a computer or roughingit in the wilderness.

Tracy refills his coffee cup.

TRACY(in awe)

Ninety two thousand dollars. Ididn't think people around here hadthat kind of money.

BINGHAMPull out the dice and the cards andmattresses start getting hacked todeath.

TRACYMaybe you could ask Earl is he couldspring for a trip to the fertilityclinic.

BINGHAMI don't think the bank's board ofdirectors would authorize that kindof liquid investment.

TRACY

(leaning over for akiss)Doesn't matter. I'd rather keeptrying the old fashioned way.

BINGHAM(returning the kiss)

Good for my ego.

TRACY



Guess Earl couldn't sleep thinkingabout all that cold hard cashsitting in his vault.

Bingham follows his wife's gaze over his shoulder and outthe diner window.


EARL POUND waddles down the sidewalk toward bank his fiftyyear old body tucked into a neat suit.

The Ford Taurus is parked discreetly down the street.


Tracy's phone RINGS -- she picks it up.

TRACY

(into the phone)Tracy's Diner.

(listening)Good morning Dana. How you feelingthis AM?

(listening)Good for you. You want Bingham?Hang on.

TRACY (CONT'D)(holding the phoneout)

Your faithful Deputy.

BINGHAM(taking the phone)

Morning Dana.

Tracy gets back to her food preparation.

EXT. BANK -- MORNING

Earl walks up to the front door while fishing around for hiskeys in his pocket. A closed sign hangs between the blindsand the glass.

Rudy, wearing a ski mask, emerges from the shadows of anearby doorway and pounces on Earl as the door is unlocked.He shoves Earl inside and SLAMS the door shut behind him.

INT. BANK -- MORNING

Rudy jams a forty five automatic into Earl's temple andshoves him against the wall.



The alarm emits a SHRILL WHINE.

RUDYPunch in the code like you do everymorning. Make a mistake and I'llblow your brains out all over this

wall.

Earl lifts a trembling hand to the alarm panel.

RUDY (CONT'D)You be real careful...Earl.


Bingham hangs up the phone.

TRACYEverything okay?

BINGHAMSecurity company's going to be late.

TRACYOh boy! Earl's going to have aknipshin.

BINGHAMHe asked Dana to sleep in the banklast night to watch the money.

(getting up)What do I owe you?

TRACYI'll let you know tonight.


Rudy holds a canvas sport bag with gloved hands as Earlfills it with cash.

EXT. MAIN STREET -- MORNING

Bingham wanders out of diner and across the street.

Down the street sits the Taurus.

INT. TAURUS -- MORNING

Cliff checks his watch then turns the key in the ignition.The car doesn't start. Cliff keeps trying as the enginestruggles to turn over. He starts to panic.




Bingham nears the bank as the WHINING of Cliff's enginedraws his attention.


Rudy closes the bag. Earl is terrified.

RUDY(to Earl)

Sit down.

Earl drops into a chair. Rudy pulls out a pair of handcuffsand secures Earl's hand behind his back on the chair.

RUDY (CONT'D)Don't go away.


With one eye on Cliff and the car, Bingham peers through thebank door window.


Rudy starts for the front door. He freezes at the sound ofKNOCKING.

Bingham appears at the door.

BINGHAM(peering through theblinds)

Earl?

Bingham KNOCKS again as Rudy steps up to Earl before he canutter a sound and SMASHES him with the gun butt. Earl goesout like a light.

Rudy runs for the back door.

EXT. ALLEY -- MORNING

Rudy barges out the back door into the alleyway.


Cliff still can't start the car as Rudy appears from thealleyway.


Tracy stares out at her husband as she fills a paper bagwith his lunch. On a Tracy's Diner bill she writes:



"On account. It's adding up!!! Love you, T"

She drops the note into the bag, closes it then walks out.


Earl comes to. Using his feet, he wheels his chair intoview of the front door.


Bingham peers inside and sees Earl. He quickly unsnaps thesafety on his holster.

He tries the door but it's locked. Out of the corner of hiseye he spots Rudy, still wearing his mask, getting into thecar. Bingham draws his gun and runs for the Taurus.


Tracy walks across Mackay street towards the bank on Main,oblivious to what's going on.


Cliff still can't get the car going.

RUDYCome on come on.

Rudy sees Bingham heading for them.


Bingham lifts his gun toward the car.

BINGHAMHold it...


Rudy leans out the window and FIRES at Bingham.


Bingham dives for cover in a door way as Rudy's bulletWHIZZES by.

The car ROARS to life. Cliff JAMS it into gear and FLOORSit, racing right towards and past Bingham.

Rudy FIRES at Bingham to keep him down.

Bingham FIRES off a shot as the car RACES past him.



INT. FORD TAURUS -- MORNING

Bingham's bullet SMASHES through the door and into Cliff.

CLIFFJesus I'm hit.

Cliff loses his grip on the wheel as the car speeds up.

RUDY(grabbing the wheel)

Watch where you're going.

Rudy yanks off his ski mask to see clearly while holdingonto the wheel.

EXT. MAIN STREET AND MACKAY -- MORNING

Tracy crosses the street as the Taurus ROARS down Main.


Bingham watches the Taurus swerve out of control as Tracycomes into view.


Cliff is nearly unconscious, his foot pressed hard on thegas. Rudy struggles to keep control of the car from thepassenger seat.

The car VEERS VIOLENTLY around the corner of Main and ontoMackay -- heading right for Tracy.


Bingham runs towards the intersection, watching helplesslyas the Taurus heads right for his wife.

BINGHAM(yelling)

Tracy...get out of there.


Tracy sees Bingham waving and waves back, unaware of thedanger heading her way.

Suddenly the Taurus RACES around the corner and righttowards her.

Tracy freezes in the middle of the street. As the Taurusbears down on her she sees Rudy staring at her from insidethe car.



Bingham runs to the intersection as the Taurus SLAMS intoTracy.

The IMPACT send Tracy flying into the air and tumbling overthe car onto the street.


Cliff's foot slides off the gas pedal as Rudy SLAMS on thebrakes.

EXT. MACKAY -- MORNING

The car SKIDS to a halt.

Rudy quickly jumps out and around the car. He opens thedriver's's door, shoves Cliff over and jumps behind thewheel. Rudy RACES off down the street.


Tracy lies battered and bleeding on the street. Binghamrushes to his wife's side and kneels beside her as a FEWLOCALS gather round.

Bingham cradles his wife's head as she struggles to speak.

BINGHAMShhhhh. Don't say anything. You'regoing to be okay.

(to an onlooker)Get Doc Gifford here fast.

The ONLOOKER runs off.

BINGHAM (CONT'D)It's okay baby. You're going to befine.

EXT. HIGHWAY #132 -- MORNING

The Griffin motor home coasts along a picturesque highway.

SHANE (O.S.)

Why can't I drive? There's nobodyaround for a million miles.

HAYLEY (O.S.)I'm sure that was the turn off youjust passed.

TIFFANY (O.S.)You're just a kid...you can't drive.



SHANE (O.S.)Shut up! Who asked you?

INT. MOTOR HOME -- MORNING

The place is a mess. Shane and Tiffany shove each other

around.

TIFFANY (O.S.)Mom...Shane's bugging me!

SHANE (O.S.)Don't be such a baby.

HAYLEY (O.S.)Shane leave your sister alone.

TIFFANY (O.S.)Get off me!!

JED (O.S.)Shane.

Hayley has a map spread out in front of her.

HAYLEYJed, why don't we pull over and youcan take a look at the map.

JEDI know where we're going.

TIFFANYGet off me you pig!

HAYLEYShane, I'm not going to tell youagain.

JEDListen to your mother!

SHANE(to Tiffany)

You're the pig.

Shane SNORTS LIKE A PIG.

OUTSIDE THE WINDOW -- Hayley notices a sign pass by.

"STOVER'S -- 24 HOUR GAS AND FOOD -- FIVE MILES"

HAYLEY



There a gas station up ahead. Wecan ask for directions there.

EXT. HIGHWAY #132 AND BOUNDARY ROAD -- MORNING

Jed suddenly turns off the highway onto Boundary Road.


HAYLEYWhat are you doing?

JEDGoing to the lake.

HAYLEY Are you sure this is the road.

(looking at the map)I don't see a Boundary Road on the

map.

JEDI'm sure. The Lake is dead ahead.

EXT. BOUNDARY ROAD -- MORNING

The motor home is stopped at a dead end on a dirt road.


Hayley and Jed stare out from the inside the motor home.

Jed pulls his cell phone from his shirt pocket.

HAYLEYWho are you calling?

JEDThe campsite. Find out what theexit is.

Jed dials and listens.

JED (CONT'D)

(clicking the phoneoff)No service.

He slips the phone back into his shirt pocket.

HAYLEYI guess we should turn around.

JED



I guess.

EXT. BANK -- DAY

Tracy is being loaded on stretcher into a local ambulance.

Bingham stands at the rear with DOCTOR LOWRY -- a floridfaced man in his fifties.

BINGHAMI she going to be okay?

DOCTOR LOWRYThere's a lot of internal damage.I'll know more when I get her to theclinic and do some x-rays.

DEPUTY DANA FLOWERS walks up to Bingham. Dana's a goodlooking physically fit woman in her late twenties. She

looks at Bingham with a little more than respect.

DANAWhy don't you go with her? I'vealready called the State Policeabout roadblocks and getting us someforensic help.

BINGHAMGood. I want those bastards caught.

DANAWe'll get them Bingham.

BINGHAM(climbing in theambulance)

Call me as soon as you've gotsomething.

DANADon't worry.

Dana shuts the doors, then watches as the ambulance drivesoff.

INT. AMBULANCE -- DAY

Bingham stares down at Tracy. Bingham squeezes his wife'slimp hand.

BINGHAMYou're going to be okay.

The ambulance RACES down the street -- SIRENS SCREAMING.



EXT. HIGHWAY #132 AND BOUNDARY ROAD -- MORNING

The motor home is parked at the intersection, still onBoundary Road.


Jed checks for traffic.

HAYLEY(pointing)

The sign said five miles that way.So what's wrong?

JED(indicating theopposite direction)

I think the lake is that way.

TIFFANYI'm hungry.

HAYLEYLet's just ask and make sure.

JEDGive me a minute.

SHANECan we get Burger King?

TIFFANYI want pizza.

SHANEWe had pizza yesterday butt head.

TIFFANYThat was the day before stupid...andstop calling me names.

HAYLEYThere's a cop.

JEDWhere?

EXT. HIGHWAY #132 -- MORNING

A Vermont State Police car is parked down a bit on thehighway on the opposite shoulder in the direction from wherethey came.

The rear door on the shoulder side appears to be open.




Jed stares across the highway.

JEDI don't see anyone.

SHANEMaybe he's having a whiz.

HAYLEYShane!

TIFFANYCan we have pizza?

SHANECool. We can order pizza out here!

TIFFANYThe phone doesn't work pin head.

HAYLEYOne more word out of either of youand you're not getting anything!

EXT. HIGHWAY #132 AT BOUNDARY ROAD -- MORNING

Rudy appears from the rear seat wearing a Vermont StatePolice shirt and jacket. He closes the door.


Jed pulls the motor home onto the shoulder of the roadbehind the State Police car.


Hayley turns to Jed.

JEDI give up! I'll ask.

Jed gets up and walks out of the motor home. Shane hurries

behind.

HAYLEYShane, wait here.

He's already gone.


Jed strolls up to Rudy -- Shane trailing behind.



JEDGood morning Officer.

RUDYGood morning.

JEDWe're having a little troublefinding our campground.

RUDYDon't know if I can help you.

Rudy keeps and eye on Shane who sniffs around the patrolcar.

JEDI'm looking for Lake Massawippi.Supposed to be around here. About

six or seven miles from Meadowvale.

RUDY(watching Shane)

I'm not really familiar with thisarea. Not my usual beat.

JEDMaybe you've got a map I can take alook at. Mine's pretty old.

POLICE RADIO (V.O.)(from the car)

All units been on the lookout fortwo men driving a late model FordTaurus. Possible damage to thefront end. Considered armed anddangerous, suspects in a Meadowvalebank robbery are Caucasian, averageheight and weight.

SHANEWow. Did you hear that?

JED

Stay away from the car Shane.(to Rudy)You have to...respond?

Shane edges around to the passenger door and peers in. Whathe sees draws him ever closer.

INT. PATROL CAR -- MORNING

Cliff lies in a bloody mess on the rear seat.



A MAN in his late sixties dust for fingerprints on the chairEarl was handcuffed to.

DANAI sent whatever else we have to theFBI including your ID of the driver.

BINGHAMIt happened so fast I didn't get agood look. What about Earl?

DANAHe's pretty shook up. The guy worea ski mask the whole time. Knowshe's white from his skin.

BINGHAMIs that Charlie Snyder?

DANAHe's retired NYPD homicide. Thoughthe could get a head start until theFBI or the State Police get somebodydown here.

BINGHAMHey Charlie.

Charlie smiles at Bingham.

DANANot going to get much. He woregloves.

BINGHAMNo other eyewitnesses?

DANANot a one. It's the weekend andmost of the town was out latecelebrating.

BINGHAMWhat about the surveillance cameras?

DANAI pulled the tapes and set then upover here.

Bingham and Dana stand around a desk set up with a small TVand VCR. Dana pushes the play button

ON THE VCR -- a fuzzy black and white replay of Rudy robbingthe bank and handcuffing and hitting Earl.



BINGHAMNot great is it?

DANANo.

Dana's radio CRACKLES to life.

DISPATCH (V.O.)(filtered)

Dispatch for Sheriff Bingham.

DANA(into the walkietalkie)

Go ahead. The Sheriff's with me.

DISPATCH (V.O.)(filtered)

We've located the Ford Taurus at therest area about five miles out onone thirty two.

BINGHAMI'll take it. You get what you canhere then check on the roadblocks.

DANAYou got it.

Bingham marches off.

EXT. HIGHWAY #132 AT BOUNDARY ROAD -- DAY

The motor home still sits behind the patrol car. Cliff isslumped on the ground near the door.

INT. MOTOR HOME -- DAY

Rudy locks Hayley and Tiffany in the tiny washroom. Jed andShane sit on the floor near the front.

RUDY(to Jed)

Help him in here.

Jed gets up.

RUDY (CONT'D)Both of you.

JEDI can...



RUDY(brandishing hisgun)

Now.

Jed and a terrified Shane struggle to haul Cliff into the

motor home and onto the couch.

JEDWhy don't you just take the motorhome and leave us on the side of theroad. I've got some money and...

RUDYShut up.

(leaning over Cliff)Cliff...can you hear me?

CLIFF

I'm hurt bad. I need a doctor.

RUDYI'm going to get you a doctor realsoon, don't you worry. But rightnow we need to change plans and getto your cousin's place.

CLIFFKenny?...where's Kenny?

RUDYThat's what I need to know. Whatdid you do with that map he gaveyou?

CLIFFPocket...it's in my back pocket.

Rudy fishes the worn hand drawn map out of Cliff's pocket.He unfolds it where Cliff can see.

RUDYNow show me where Westwood is onthis map.

Shane trembles violently. Jed moves to his side.

Rudy aims his gun at Jed.

RUDY (CONT'D)Don't move.

Jed gently pulls Shane to him.



RUDY (CONT'D)(to Cliff)

Show me how to get to your cousin's.

Cliff weakly points to a spot on the map.

RUDY (CONT'D)That's along the main highway. Isthere another way to get there?

Cliff points to another direction.

CLIFFIt's a dirt road. Pretty narrow.

Rudy stuffs the map in the police jacket pocket.

RUDYWe'll take the highway.

(to Jed)Get behind the wheel and drive.

JEDLook, we're not going to sayanything...I promise. Justplease...

RUDYDrive.

Suddenly a huge eighteen wheeler ROARS past blowing its AIRHORN. The wind draft rocks the motor home, distractingRudy.

Jed rushes for Rudy and tackles him. The two men CRASH intothe rear of the motor home. Rudy SMACKS his head hard.

The gun flies out of Rudy's hand and SKITTERS under thecouch.

Rudy is winded, lying on the floor. Jed scrambles to hisfeet.

Cliff is too out of it to get up and help his partner.

Jed drops to the floor and tries to pull out the gun fromunder the couch. His arm is too big to fit into the smallopening.

JED(to Shane)

Come here and get the gun. Hurry!



A stunned Shane hurries to his father's side and drops tothe floor. He shoves his arm under the couch to get thegun.

Jed gets up and lets Hayley and Tiffany out of the bathroom.Hayley and Tiffany stagger out.

Cliff reaches down and grabs Shane's hair.

SHANEDAD!

Jed rushes over and pulls Cliff's hand off Shane. Jedpunches Cliff right in his wound. Cliff SCREAMS in pain.

Rudy is still dazed on the floor.

JED(to Hayley)

Help me.

Jed grabs Rudy and drags him to the door.

JED (CONT'D)Tiffany, open the door.

Tiffany opens the door and steps out.

Jed and Hayley drag Rudy down the steps and out of the motorhome.


Jed and Hayley drag Rudy away from the motor home and drophim on the ground.

JED(to Hayley)

Quick, back inside.

As Jed follows Hayley, Rudy gets up and dives for Jed,BANGING them both into the side of the motor home.

SHANE

(appearing at thedoor)Dad.

He tosses the gun towards Jed but it goes astray...clunkingto the shoulder of the road.

When Jed dives for the gun Rudy DRIVES HIS FOOT INTO JED'SCHEST. Rudy calmly picks up the gun.



Hayley suddenly leaps onto Rudy's back and FLAILS away.

Then Shane. Then Tiffany.

Rudy RAMS them all into the side of the motor home.

A winded Jed crawls around on the ground. He grabs a branchand rears back to smash Rudy. But before he can strike,Rudy whirls around and FIRES at Jed.

The bullet SMASHES Jed in the chest, sending him flying onhis back.

HAYLEYJED!!!

Jed rolls down the embankment.

Rudy swings the gun back onto Hayley and the kids.

RUDYBack inside. NOW!

Hayley huddles the terrified kids back inside as Jed layslifeless at the bottom of the ditch.

Rudy shoves Hayley into the motor home and follows closebehind and SLAMS the door shut.


Hayley and Tiffany are freaked. Shane appears in shock.

RUDYShut up and sit down.

Hayley and Tiffany reluctantly obey. Hayley pulls acomatose Shane to her side.

CLIFFJesus, why'd you have to kill him.Let's get out of here Rudy.

RUDY

Let me think. Let me think.

CLIFFCome on, let them go and let's getout of here. The cops'll be lookingfor us everywhere by now.

RUDYThat's right. The cops will belooking for the two of us.



(looking at Hayleyand the kids)

Not them.

CLIFFYeah, so.

Rudy calmly shoots Cliff in the chest. Hayley and the kidsare horrified.

Rudy grabs Cliff and drags him out of the motor home.


Rudy drags Cliff onto the shoulder and rolls him down besideJed. Rudy pulls off the police shirt and jacket and tossesthem beside Jed. Jailhouse tatoos decorate Rudy's body.

RUDY

That's right Cliff. They'll belooking for the two of us. Not afamily on holidays.

Rudy gets back in the motor home.


Rudy jams his gun into Hayley's back.

RUDYYour turn to drive.

(to the kids)Sit down and don't move.

Hayley slumps behind the wheel.

RUDY (CONT'D)I said drive!

Hayley puts the motor home into gear and drives back ontothe road and down the highway.

EXT. HIGHWAY -- DAY

The motor home disappears into the distance.

Jed and Cliff lie motionless at the bottom of theembankment.

END OF ACT TWO

ACT THREE



Hayley wheels the vehicle onto the shoulder of the road andstops.

RUDY (CONT'D)Don't move a muscle...anyone.

Rudy steps to the back and rifles through the clothes. Hepulls out some of Jed's shirts and jackets, picks the oneshe likes and puts them on.

Rudy gets back in the passenger seat. He picks up Jed'swallet on the console and flips through the ID. Rudy tossesthe wallet out the window.

RUDY (CONT'D)From now on I'm Jed Griffin...lovingfather and husband. I left mywallet back home in Barry.

Hayley stares at her kids.

RUDY (CONT'D)You better be listening...Hayley...because there will be a test.

HAYLEYI'm listening.

RUDYThere's probably a road block upahead where that cop is. We'regoing to be one big happy family onvacation when they stop us.

HAYLEYWhy don't you just let us go?

RUDYYou screw up and the kids are dead.You try to get help and the kids aredead.

HAYLEYPlease...

RUDY(to Tiffany)

What's your name?

HAYLEYLeave her alone.

RUDY(to Tiffany)



I asked you a question. I need toknow what my new daughter's name is.

TIFFANY(nearing tears)

Tiffany.

Shane MOANS catotonically.

RUDY And zombie boy here?

TIFFANY(sliding close toher brother)

His name is Shane.

RUDYI need a map.

Hayley gets up.

RUDY (CONT'D)(to Hayley)

Sit down.(touching the girl'shand)

I want Tiffany to get it.

HAYLEYIt's okay honey.

Tiffany gets up and walks over to a drawer. She pulls itopen.

INSIDE THE DRAWER -- a couple of maps and some tools...and ascrewdriver.

Tiffany stares at the screwdriver.

Rudy is suddenly behind her.

HAYLEYOver there.

Rudy picks up what's left of the Vermont map.

RUDYI can't read this.

HAYLEYThat's all we have.

TIFFANY(near breakdown)

You're a murderer. You killed myfather...

RUDYYour Daddy shouldn't have screwedaround with me. You're lucky hedidn't get you all killed.

HAYLEYWhy don't you let my kids go?

RUDY And split up our happy family? Getup there and drive.

Hayley pulls the motor home back onto the highway and headsfor the police lights.

RUDY (CONT'D)(leaning in close)

You get us through the roadblock inone piece and your home free. Now

drive.

EXT. WOODS NEAR REST STOP -- DAY

Officer Rail is crouched down beside the body. Binghamsearches the surrounding area.

OFFICER RAILIt's Levy. Officer Barry Levy.



BINGHAMHas he been reported missing?

OFFICER RAILNo. Barry just came on shift.Doing the front end on the gun.

BINGHAMSpeed trap?

OFFICER RAILUh huh.

BINGHAMWhereabouts.

OFFICER RAIL At town limits on one thirty two.

EXT. HIGHWAY #132 EASTBOUND ROADBLOCK -- DAY

A Vermont State Patrol car block most of the road.

Dana flags down a car in front of the motor home.

The motor home rolls to a stop.


Rudy leans back in his seat watching Dana question thedriver of the car in front.

RUDY(to Hayley)

Remember what I said.

The car in front drives off as Dana walks over to thedriver's side of the motor home.

Hayley slides open the window as Dana steps up to it.

DANAGood morning. How you folks doing?

HAYLEYGood...thanks. What's going on?

DANACould I see your license andregistration please?

Hayley pulls the documents from her purse and hands them toDana.



HAYLEYIs something wrong Officer?

DANAWhere you heading today?

HAYLEYWe're going camping to Lake Boyum.

Dana peers in as best she can.

DANA(handing thedocuments back)

Lake Boyum's a few miles back offGardner Road.

HAYLEYReally? I thought we missed the

turn.

DANAMind if I take a look around inside?

RUDYWe really don't have...

HAYLEYSure.

Dana walks around to the door and steps inside.

She looks around. No kids in sight.

DANAGood morning Mr. Griffin.

RUDYHey there.

Dana strolls to the back of the vehicle. She doesn't takemuch notice of Cliff's blood stain on the couch.

DANA

Have you seen anyone this morningbetween here and Meadowvale?

RUDY(cutting off Hayley)

No. No one. Who are you lookingfor?

Dana reaches for the door handle as Rudy fingers his gun.



HAYLEYMy daughter's in there. Thewashroom. She gets car sicksometimes.

(calling out)Tiff...?

TIFFANY (O.S.)I'll be out in a second.

INSIDE THE WASHROOM --

Tiffany sits on the toilet behind Shane on the floor -- herhand clamped over Shane's mouth.

BACK TO SCENE --

RUDYSay...I was wondering if you knew

where Westwood Drive is?

DANA About three miles back. Ends up atthe old state prison. There'sanother way in about half a mile upbut it's pretty rough.

RUDYWestwood Pen. It's abandoned isn'tit?

DANAYes...but it's still state property.

RUDYI just thought it would be cool toshow the kid...Tiffany. Morbidcuriosity you know.

Dana's radio CRACKLES to life.

DANAI'd be careful. They've gotsecurity up there and don't like

tourists poking around.

RUDYNo problem. We've got lots of otherstuff to do.

BINGHAM (V.O.)(filtered)

Sheriff Hunt for Deputy Flowers.Come in Dana.



DANA(into themouthpiece)

Come in Sheriff. I read you loudand clear.

BINGHAM (V.O.)It looks like our assault and armedrobbery has graduated to murder.

DANA(into themouthpiece)

Hold on Sheriff while I changelocations.

(to Hayley and Rudy)Sorry about any inconvenience folks.

RUDY

No trouble Officer.

DANAHave a nice trip.

Dana walks out of the motor home.

Hayley sees the gas gauge indicating the tank is empty. Sheuses a note pad to obscure the gauge from view.

RUDYLet's go.

Hayley slips the vehicle into gear and drives through theroad block.

Rudy gets up and opens the washroom door.

RUDY (CONT'D)You can come out now kids.

Tiffany and a pale Shane step out.

RUDY (CONT'D)You did good...now sit down and shut

up.

HAYLEYIt's okay, just do what he says.

Tiffany pulls Shane with her onto the couch.

EXT. HIGHWAY #132 PAST EASTBOUND ROADBLOCK -- DAY



Flowers gets into her car taking one last look at thedisappearing motor home.


The motor home suddenly starts to SPUTTER and COUGH.

RUDYWhat the hell are you doing?

HAYLEYI'm not doing anything.

The motor home loses power and slows down.

RUDY(brandishing thegun)

I told you not to stop!

HAYLEYI can't help it.

The engine gives one final GASP then dies. Hayley fights tosteer the motor home to shoulder of the road.

RUDYThis better not be some stupidstunt.

HAYLEYI swear...it's not. We've alwayshad trouble with this beast.

RUDYThen what the hell are you doingtaking it on the road?

Hayley doesn't respond.

RUDY (CONT'D)Start it up again.

Hayley nervously turns the key. The engine WHINES

relentlessly but doesn't kick over.

RUDY (CONT'D)Move.

Hayley slides out of her seat and stands next to the kids.Rudy gets behind the driver's seat and turns the key.

The engine WHINES AND COUGHS but doesn't start.



EXT. HIGHWAY #132 HEADING WEST -- DAY

Dana drives.

BINGHAM (V.O.)They've got a State Patrol car and

uniform. Could be anywhere by now.

DANA(into her walkietalkie)

Everything's secure going east boundon one thirty two. Not much trafficso far, just a few tourists. Over.

BINGHAM (V.O.)West bound is blocked off as well.we may have made it in time. Over.


A lot of secondary roads around hereBingham. Over.

BINGHAM (V.O.)I know. All we can do is patrol thearea and see what we can see. Over.


The cowling over the engine is up. Rudy can't find anythingwrong. He tries the engine again and nothing.

RUDY Are you any good here?

HAYLEYNo. Jed takes care of that.

EXT. MOTOR HOME PAST HIGHWAY #132 EASTBOUND ROADBLOCK -- DAY

A car pulls up behind the motor home and stops.


Rudy stands and towers over Tiffany.

RUDYGet up.

TIFFANYMom?



HAYLEYWhat do you want with her?

RUDYI want to make sure you behave whileI talk to whoever this is.

He grabs Tiffany and pulls her to her feet.

RUDY (CONT'D)Now listen very carefully. I'm JedGriffin.

(to Tiffany)You act just like I'm your Daddy andwe'll all be fine, got it?

She nods weakly.

RUDY (CONT'D)

If you don't...I'll kill everybody.Including whoever's in that car.

Rudy grabs Tiffany and drags her to the door of the motorhome.

RUDY (CONT'D)Remember...one big happy family --or you'll be one dead family.

Rudy drags Tiffany outside.

EXT. MOTOR HOME PAST HIGHWAY #132 EASTBOUND ROADBLOCK -- DAY

WAYNE WILKY, the sixty five year old driver of the car pullshimself out of his car and waddles toward Rudy and Tiffany.

WAYNEHey folks! The big buggy kicking upsome fuss?

RUDYYou could say that.

WAYNE

(sticking out hisstubby hand)Wayne Wilky.

RUDYJed...Jed Griffin.

WAYNE(to Tiffany)

Hey little lady.



RUDYThat's my daughter Tiffany. Sureappreciate you stopping. Any goodwith engines?

WAYNE

Let me at her.

Wayne walks over to the door and steps inside.

EXT. HIGHWAY -- DAY

MAVIS FULTON, sixties, coasts along in her pick up truck.

INT. TRUCK -- DAY

Mavis drives.

A 30-30 hunting rifle is mounted on a rack behind her.

Tinny country music playing from her radio. Mavis switchesher radio off and turns her police scanner on.

DISPATCH (V.O.)Car number V-42. Occupants armedand extremely dangerous. Approachwith caution. Use deadly force ifrequired.


Mavis drives by Boundary Road and sees the Patrol car parkedoff the highway.

She makes a u-turn and stops near the Patrol car.

INT. MAVIS' TRUCK -- DAY

From her truck Mavis can see Jed and Cliff lying on theground.

MAVISOn my lord!

Mavis pulls the rifle off the rack and loads it. She stepsout of the truck.


Jed struggles to sit up, his body stiff and battered. Hewipes his hand on his blood soaked shirt. Jed feels hischest then pulls out his shattered cell phone from his shirtpocket.



Rudy's bullet is imbedded in the cell phone.

MAVIS (O.S.)Hold it right there mister.

Jed looks up the embankment and sees Mavis aiming her rifle

right at him.

JEDYou've got to help me.

Jed stands up.

MAVISHey...I said don't move.

JEDYou don't understand. He has myfamily.

MAVISI understand plenty. I've got apolice scanner in the truck. Heardall I need.

JEDWhat are you talking about?

Mavis tosses handcuffs down to Jed.

MAVISPut those on.

JEDWhat?

MAVIS(lifting the rifleto her shoulder)

You better put those on pronto.

JEDMy family's in serious trouble andhe's getting away. You've got to

help me.

Jed scrambles up the hill but he's still groggy -- slippingback.

JED (CONT'D)We have to get the police.

MAVISHey, I said hold it.



JEDCan you call the police from yourtruck?

MAVISWe'll get the police all right.

Mavis FIRES, hitting the ground a few feet from Jed.

Jed freezes in his tracks

JEDWhat the hell are you doing?

MAVISCitizen's arrest.

JEDI haven't done anything you stupid

cow.

Mavis FIRES again...a lot closer.

MAVISWatch your mouth.

JEDYou've got to help me. My family'sbeen kidnapped and every secondcounts.

MAVISSure they have.

JEDPlease. There's no time to sit hereand wait. He's getting away.

MAVISYou can tell your story to the copswhen they get here. Now put onthose handcuffs before I get angry.

JED

There's not enough time.

Jed steps closer.

Mavis pulls the trigger again but the rifle MISFIRES.

Jed tries to get to her before she can fix the weapon. Theloose ground impedes his movements.

Mavis FIRES again...a whole lot closer.



Jed turns and runs for the woods.

The gun MISFIRES again.

EXT. WOODS NEAR BOUNDARY ROAD AND HWY #132 -- DAY

Jed stops just inside the woods and turns towards Mavis.

Mavis FRIES another round --

The branches in front of Jed SHATTER from the buckshot.

Jed turns and runs.

The branches WHIP and SLASH at his face and body.

JEDPlease God help me.

END OF ACT THREE

ACT FOUR

INT. WAYNE'S CAR -- DAY

Wayne drives on as the motor home disappears into thedistance behind them.

Tiffany sits in the front seat beside Wayne -- the Rudybehind them both in the back.

WAYNEYour damn lucky it's just out ofgas. Better than having thetransmission go. Those big body'sreally work a tranny.

RUDYI guess your right.

WAYNEYou should really change that gauge.

RUDYLike I said, we don't really have alot of time. Guess we'll take ourchances for a few more days.

WAYNEToo bad you didn't notice it wasbroken before you left home.



RUDYYeah. Too bad.

Rudy brushes his hand against the back of Tiffany's neck.

RUDY (CONT'D)

Isn't it Tiffany?

She fights back tears.


Bingham examines the area around Cliff's body.

Mavis is sitting in her truck talking to Dana. Danafinishes up and walks over to Bingham.

DANAShe got a pretty good look.

Bingham stares off into the woods then walks to his car withDana in tow.

BINGHAMI want you to get as many men downhere as you can. Call DwightSizemore and get his dogs as well.Send Mavis over to the diner to sitwith David Callahan.

AT HIS CAR -- Bingham opens his trunk and takes out hisshotgun.

BINGHAM (CONT'D)He's the closest thing we have to apolice sketch artist. I want thisguy's face plastered all over thecounty.

He stuffs his pockets full of shells and closes the trunk.Bingham walks back towards the woods.

DANAWhere are you going?

BINGHAMHe's already got a head start. I'mnot letting it get any longer.

Bingham disappears into the woods.

EXT. WOODS -- DAY



Jed SLUGS through the bush, fighting to keep the branchesfrom slashing his face to pieces.

Jed stops and looks around at the dense forest.

Every direction looks the same -- every direction just as

tough to get through.

Jed knows he's lost but keeps on running.

EXT. HIGHWAY #132 HEADING WEST -- DAY

Wayne, Tiffany, and Rudy are in his car driving away fromthe roadblock Rudy just went through.

RUDYYou sure there's no other placeheading east...maybe further up theroad.

WAYNENot for fifty miles. Only otherservice station is in Meadowvale.

Rudy turns and takes another look at the police roadblockand the motor home disappearing behind him.


The motor home sits silently parked on the side of thehighway.


Hayley paces back and forth nervously.

Shane sits in a daze.

Hayley stops and stares at her son. She sits beside him.

HAYLEYOh God Shane, I'm sorry, I'm sosorry...

Hayley suddenly hears a CAR'S ENGINE.

She bolts for the door and runs out.


The car nears the motor home as Hayley steps into the middleof the road and waves her arms.

HAYLEY



Help us. Stop.

The car ROARS past.

HAYLEY (CONT'D)Please help

Hayley watches the car disappear in the distance. Shecollapses in a heap of tears.

EXT. STOVER'S GARAGE -- DAY

Wayne and the Rudy stand around the pump as the GAS JOCKEYfills a large plastic container with gas.

Tiffany sits in the car watching them.

WAYNESo what do you do Jed?

RUDYWhat's that?

WAYNEFor a living. What's your trade?

RUDYFinancial advisor.

WAYNENo kidding?

RUDYNo kidding.

Tiffany opens the door and steps out. The Rudy tenses.

TIFFANY(for everyone tohear)

I have to go to thebathroom...Daddy .

GAS JOCKEY

Around back on your left. Key'shanging inside the door.

RUDYDon't be long. I don't want yourmother to worry.

Tiffany walks to the building.

WAYNE



Sweet thing.

The Rudy watches Tiffany intently.

RUDYWayne, you know this area pretty

good. Friend of mine said there's agreat trout stream off the back roadto Westwood Penitentiary.

WAYNEBeen up there a million times andcan't recollect a stream of any goodsize.

RUDYMaybe I'll take a look anyway. Youknow the road I'm talking about.

WAYNESure. We passed it on the way here.

The Gas Jockey stops pumping and returns the nozzle to thepump.

GAS JOCKEYThat'll be ten bucks.

WAYNE(pulling out hismap)

I'll show you how to get there.

Rudy pulls out a wad of bills and peels off a ten. He handsit to the Gas Jockey.

GAS JOCKEYFive for the gas and another fivedeposit for the container. Get itback when I get mt container back.

INT. STOVER'S GARAGE WASHROOM -- DAY

Tiffany opens the door, steps inside and turns on the light.

She stares around the dingy facilities.

Not much more than a toilet, sink, towel dispenser...andanother door.

Tiffany unlocks the door and opens it.

THROUGH THE DOORWAY -- is the inside of the gasstation...and a pay phone just feet away. Tiffany steps



inside and checks that no one is around. She can see Rudyout at the gas pumps.


Hayley rocks Shane in her arms.


Wayne sits in the car waiting.

RUDYI'll see what's keeping her.

The Rudy marches around the building up to the washroomdoor.

INT. STOVER'S GARAGE -- DAY

Tiffany pulls open the door to the washroom.

Rudy is standing there. He grabs the girl and hauls herinto the washroom and SLAMS the door.

INT. STOVER'S GARAGE WASHROOM -- DAY

Rudy shoves Tiffany against the wall.

RUDYI warned you not to get cute.

TIFFANYI didn't do anything...I swear.

Rudy drags her to the door and pulls it open. He sees thephone on the wall.

RUDY(showing her hisgun)

Don't move.

Tiffany stands in the doorway as Rudy walks to the phone,checking to make sure Wayne or the attendant come back in.


Rudy picks up the receiver and listens. Nothing.

He flicks the phone a few times. Nothing.

Rudy sees a piece of paper lying on the floor under thephone. He picks it up.



ON THE PAPER -- are scrawled the words "OUT OF ORDER" Rudysticks the paper back on the phone.

He walks back into the washroom with Tiffany and closes thedoor.

EXT. WOODS NEAR BOUNDARY ROAD AND HWY #132 -- DAY

Bingham is a man possessed as he plows through the woods hoton Jed's trail. He stops to listen. He can hear JedRUNNING in the distance.

EXT. RIVER'S EDGE -- DAY

Jed stumbles out of the woods onto a riverbank.

Beyond it, a fast-flowing river.

Jed looks back. Listens. Bingham is not far. Jed runs for

the river and along the bank.

Suddenly, Jed hears the CRUNCHING of underbrush. Closer.Very close.

He can see Bingham emerging from the woods.

Jed looks at the river, thinks.

In a flash, Jed wades in and DIVES underwater, swimmingdownstream.

Bingham arrives at the river's edge.

No sign of Jed.

He looks down up and down, sees Jed's footprints in the dirtleading to the water.

Bingham stands there listening.

EXT. RIVER (FURTHER DOWNSTREAM) -- DAY

Jed is holding onto a tree branch, hanging out over theriver. He's only a few hundred feet downstream from where

Bingham is standing.

BINGHAM (O.S.)(calling out)

I know you hear me. I know you'reclose.

Jed doesn't know what to do

BINGHAM (O.S.) (CONT'D)



Give it up.

JED(finally)

I'm not the man you want. He tookmy family hostage. They're all in

my motor home heading god knowswhere. You have to believe me.


Bingham treads closer to Jed, buying time.

BINGHAMWe have witnesses, they'll ID you.There's nowhere for you to run. Bea lot easier on you if you just cameout.


The branch Jed holds onto starts to give way.

JEDThat woman's crazy. she made amistake. You've got to help me getmy family. I didn't do anything.

BINGHAM (O.S.)Then come out as a sign of goodfaith.


Bingham makes sure his gun is loaded and ready.

BINGHAMI promise to listen to what you haveto say.


Jed realizes this might be his only chance. He prepares topull himself up.

Suddenly the tree branch BREAKS. Jed can't fight thecurrent and floats further downstream.


Bingham catches a glimpse of Jed in the water and FIRES!

Jed dives under the water to try and make it to shore.



Bingham takes aim...waiting.

Jed surfaces and Bingham FIRES again.

Jed dives under again and disappears.

Bingham waits. Listens for a response. Nothing.

EXT. RIVER'S EDGE FURTHER DOWNSTREAM -- DAY

Jed climbs out, sopping wet, but safe. He collapses to theground. Jed sees Bingham up river. He gets up and runs offinto the woods.

EXT. WOODS -- DAY

Jed is dead tired but he forces himself to run deeper intothe woods.

Jed pushes the branches from his path with hands cut andbleeding.

Jed can now hear the SOUNDS of DOGS. He pushes on.

EXT. WOODS NEAR STOVER'S -- DAY

Jed stumbles out into a clearing behind Stover's.

He creeps through the trees until he has a clear view of thepumps. Jed is stunned to see Wayne, Tiffany, and Rudy driveout of stover's and back down the road.


The Gas Jockey leaves the pumps and walks inside.

Jed creeps around to the front. He ducks behind thebuilding when a YOUNG MAN in a Jeep pulls in.


The Gas Jockey steps inside the washroom and closes thedoor.


The YOUNG MAN stands beside the Jeep HONKING the horn. Whenno one shows up he slides the pump into his car then walksinside the station.

Jed steps out of hiding and walks over to the car. He pullsout the pump, gets in the car, and drives off.

EXT. HIGHWAY -- DAY



Hayley, Shane and Tiffany watch Wayne drive away.

Wayne gives a friendly wave through the driver's window ashe heads down the highway.

RUDY

Let's go.

Hayley ushers the kids inside. She stops and faces theRudy.

HAYLEYPlease. Don't do this. I'll dowhatever you want if you let my kidsgo. Whatever.

The Rudy brushes his fingers against Hayley's face then letsthem drift down.

RUDYSome other time I wouldn't hesitate.But right now I've got pressingbusiness to take care of.

(pushing her)Inside.

The Rudy follows -- slamming the door behind him.


Hayley sits behind the wheel.

RUDYTurn around.

HAYLEYWhat?

RUDYThere's a road between here and theroad block. Take it.


Hayley makes a u-turn and drives off.

ACT FIVE

INT. TRACY'S DINER -- DAY

Mavis sits across from the local artist DAVID CALLAHAN.



ON THE ARTIST'S PAD -- the finishing touches are added to asketch of Jed.

EXT. MONTAGE -- DAY

The wanted posters of Jed are copied then tacked up

everywhere -- distributed to everyone.

EXT. HIGHWAY #132 EASTBOUND -- DAY

Jed ROARS along in the Jeep.

EXT. HIGHWAY #132 WESTBOUND -- DAY

Dana drives.

DISPATCH (V.O.)...1997 black Jeep CJ with Beigeroof. Registered to Owen Chandler.

Vehicle was stolen from gas pumps atStover's Garage on one thirty two...

Jed ROARS by in the Jeep.

Dana SLAMS on the brakes and spins her car around. SheRACES off after Jed.

INT. JEEP -- DAY

Jed sees the Patrol Car lights in his rear view mirror. HeFLOORS it.

EXT. HIGHWAY #132 WESTBOUND -- DAY

Dana is in hot pursuit of Jed who's losing ground.

Jed suddenly yanks the wheel and SLIDES onto Boundary Road,ROARING past the patrol car crime scene.

Dana ZOOMS after him.

EXT. BOUNDARY ROAD -- DAY

Jed RACES down the road with Dana close behind.

Jed pulls away, Dana forced to slow because of the cloud ofdust behind Jed. Jed disappears from view.

Dana continues on down the road.

At the end of the road Dana see the Jeep. But Jed is gone.




Bingham has been joined by DWIGHT SIZEMORE and his huntingdogs.

Bingham's walkie talkie CRACKLES.

DANA (V.O.)

(filtered)Flowers to Sheriff Hunt. Come in.

BINGHAM(into his walkietalkie)

This is Bingham Dana.

DANA (V.O.)(filtered)

He's gone into the woods at the endof Boundary Road.

BINGHAM(into his walkietalkie)

How long?

DANA(filtered)

Two three minutes. Hold on.

EXT. WOODS ON BOUNDARY ROAD -- DAY

Dana creeps into the woods, gun at the ready. She looks andlistens. RUNNING can be heard from the woods.

Dana spots broken foliage where Jed has entered the woods.


He's heading north west...in yourgeneral direction.


BINGHAM

(into the walkietalkie)Moorecroft Trail is about half amile from here. It leads over toBoundary and Westwood. We try andcut him off. Over and out.

(to Dwight)Let's go.

The dogs pull at their leash leading the way.



EXT. WOODS -- DAY

Jed runs for his life through dense bush -- branchespunishing his body.

Jed SLIPS AND SLIDES on the slick ground.

The SOUNDS OF THE DOGS carries through the woods.


Dwight sets the dogs off on Jed's trail with Sheriff Binghampulling up the rear.

EXT. DIRT ROAD LEADING TO WESTWOOD -- DAY

The motor home coasts slowly down the road.


Hayley and the kids look haggard.

Rudy watches the road ahead.

Hayley PUMPS the brakes.

HAYLEYI think there's something wrong withthe brakes.

RUDYWe don't have far to go.

HAYLEYBut there's...

RUDYJust drive.

HAYLEYWhere are you taking us?

RUDYSomewhere safe.

TIFFANYWhat are you going to do to us?

RUDYI'm not going to do anything.

TIFFANY Are you going to shoot us like myfather?



HAYLEYTiffany.

RUDYIt's okay.

(to Tiffany)

Look kid, I don't have anythingagainst you. You were just in thewrong place at the wrong time.

(to Hayley) As soon as we get where I'm goingI'll let you go.

HAYLEYWhy don't you let us go now? Youcan take the motor home. We won'tsay anything...I promise.

RUDY

You and the kids are my insurance.

Rudy recognizes a landmark on the road.

RUDY (CONT'D)Make a right up here.

HAYLEYThere's no road there.

RUDYYes there is.

Hayley slows the motor home to a crawl.

EXT. SECONDARY ROAD -- DAY

A small dirt road is hidden by overgrowth, marked only by ahidden post sporting a strange symbol.


Hayley strains to see the road. It looks way too small forthe motor home.

HAYLEYI can't make that!

RUDYSure you can.

HAYLEYIt's too tight.

RUDY



There's plenty of room.(menacing)

Just do it.

Hayley turns the vehicle onto the narrow dirt road.

EXT. WOODS NEAR WESTWOOD PENITENTIARY -- DAY

Jed is fading fast but he still slugs through the woods.

A DIRT BIKER WHIZZES by, causing Jed to duck out of sight.

Jed continues on and suddenly pops into a clearing where aDIRT BIKER decked out in riding gear works on his motormotorcycle.

Exhausted, Jed drops to his knees.

DIRT BIKER #1

Hey man...you okay?

JEDWater. I need water.

The Biker grabs his water bottle and hands it to Jed. Jedguzzles the water down.

DIRT BIKER #1What happened to you?

JEDI'm looking for my family. Theywere kidnapped.

DIRT BIKER #1Wow. Very cool.

(slightlyembarrassed)

Hey, I mean that in a good way. Inever knew anybody that waskidnapped before.

JEDYou been out here long?

DIRT BIKER #1Two days. Looking for radicaltrails to ride. Forget about thereal world.

JEDCan you help me?

DIRT BIKER #1



You bet dude. We'll get the men inblue on the case.

JEDNo. No cops. I mean it'll take toomuch time for them to get here. We

can use your bike.

DIRT BIKER #1Negatory dude. My ride is bunk.But my buddy's gone for help. He'llbe back in no time.

The sound of DOGS filter through the woods catching Jed andthe Dirt Biker's attention.

JEDYou ever hear of a place calledWestwood?

DIRT BIKER #1The old state prison. It's a veryboss place to hang. Now that it'sempty.

JEDHow far is it?

DIRT BIKER #1Maybe a mile...maybe less.

JEDCan you show me where it is?

DIRT BIKER #1I don't know dude. I've gotta hanghere for my buddy.

(to someone else)Hey dude. Join the party.

Out of the woods emerges KENNY KINGMAN. Kenny's in hisforties -- hard, a hair trigger temper lying just below thesurface. Kenny has a rifle draped over his arm.

Without hesitation, Kenny lifts his rifle and FIRES.

The bullet SMASHES into the dirt biker's chest. Jed ishorrified, thinking he's next.

KENNYI've been looking all over for you.

Without warning, Kenny JAMS the rifle butt into Jed's gut.



KENNY (CONT'D)That's for Cliff.

Jed struggles to say something but he can't breath.

KENNY (CONT'D)

And this is for me.

Kenny WHACKS Jed in the head with the rifle butt. He goesout like a light.

INT. CLINIC -- DAY

Tracy lies in bed -- IV's and heart monitors connected toher bandaged body. She opens her eyes and takes in hersurroundings.

A NURSE walks in to check on her.

NURSEHey there honey, we were frettingabout you?

She checks the IV and monitors.

TRACYBingham...my husband.

NURSEThe Sheriff's's out looking forthose animals that did this to you.But he's been checking on you. I'llget the doctor to radio him you'reawake.

The Nurse leaves.

Outside the room Tracy can see a television but barely hearthe SOUND.

A news report shows the wanted poster of Jed and a mug shotof Cliff as the two men who robbed the Meadowvale bank.Tracy stares blankly at the newscast. She rings for theNurse.

The Nurse returns to the room.

NURSE (CONT'D)Something wrong?

TRACYI'm fine. But there's somethingbothering me -- about the picturesthey showed on TV.



NURSEWhat pictures?

TRACYThe two men who robber the bank.

NURSEThey've been playing it all day.One of them is dead, the other wasidentified by Mavis Fulton. I heardhe nearly raped her.

TRACYIt's not the same guy.

NURSEWho's not the same guy?

TRACY

It's not the same guy that ran meover.

NURSE Are you sure? They wore ski masks,and...

TRACYHe pulled his mask off. In the car.I saw his face. And he wasn't oneof the men in the news.

NURSEI better call the Sheriff.

ACT SIX

The Nurse hurries out of the room.

EXT. WOODS -- DAY

DIRT BIKER #2 is leading Bingham, Dwight and the dogsthrough the woods.

EXT. ROAD TO WESTWOOD PENITENTIARY -- DAY

Kenny ROARS along the road in his pick up truck.

INSIDE THE TRUCK Jed comes around. His hands cuffed behindhis back.

INT. KENNY'S PICK UP TRUCK -- DAY



KENNYWhy'd you kill Cliff?

JED(getting hisbearings)

What? Where are you taking me?

KENNYWhy'd you kill my cousin?

JEDI didn't.

KENNYHe may not have been much family,but he was the only family I got.

JED

I didn't kill him. The guy who...

Jed sees his face on the wanted poster sitting on the dashboard.

KENNYWhere's the money?

JEDWhat money?

Kenny WALLOPS Jed.

JED (CONT'D)I'm not who you think I am.

KENNYWho do you think I think you are?

Kenny doesn't see the dead deer lying in the road until thelast second.

He SLAMS on the brakes -- Jed BASHING his chest and head onthe dash.

Jed is stunned, crumpled on the floor. Kenny gets out andwalks over to the deer. Realizing this is his only chance,Jed manuevers his body so his hands can grip the doorhandle.

Kenny pulls the carcass off the road. When he turns around,Kenny sees the door wide open and Jed gone.




Jed runs for all he's worth, fighting to keep his balancewith his hands cuffed behind his back.

Kenny races into the woods after him. This man can move.

Kenny stops and listens. He picks up on Jed's CRASHING and

takes off in pursuit.

Jed hits a clearing and uses the space to try and get hiscuffed hands out from behind his back.

The CRUNCHING OF TWIGS AND LEAVES is getting closer.

After a few unsuccessful attempts, Jed gets his cuffed handsaround his legs and out front. Now he can run. But as hestands up, the SOUNDS EVAPORATE.

Jed stands still and listens.

KENNY (O.S.)Move one tiny muscle and I'll blowyour head off.

Kenny emerges from the woods, his shotgun trained right atJed's head.

JEDYou've got to believe me -- I'm notwho you think -- the guy you wanttried to kill me too -- hekidnapped...

KENNYWhere's the money?

JED(defeated)

I don't know.

Kenny pulls back the hammer.

KENNYIf you don't tell me...I'll killyou. If you give me another BS

story...I'll kill you. Your choice.(stepping closer)Make it.

Jed thinks long and hard. Then...

JED(his only hope)

My partner has it.



KENNYWhat are you talking about?

JED(winging it)

Jed. My partner. He's got the

money. In the motor home.

KENNYCliff didn't say anything aboutanother guy.

JEDIt was a last minute thing. Pissedme off too. But Cliff got worriedit'd be too much for us.

KENNYWho is this guy?

JEDSomebody he knew from home.

Kenny is really unsure about this latest installment.

JED (CONT'D)Look. This guy -- Jed -- he triedto screw me too. He shot me when hekilled Cliff.

Kenny tenses as Jed reaches for his pocket.

JED (CONT'D)Hold on. Just want to show you...

Jed ease his hand into and out of his pocket. He tosses thecell phone over to Kenny.

JED (CONT'D)That's his bullet.

Kenny examines the bullet lodged in the metal.

KENNY

You're one lucky son of a bitch.

He tosses the phone back to Jed.

KENNY (CONT'D)Keep it for luck.

Jed puts it back in his pocket.

JED



Right.

KENNYSo where's this guy and my money.

JED

I need some water.

KENNYWhat?

JEDI'm dying of thirst here. I needsome water.

KENNYFirst tell me where he is?

JED

You kill me now you'll never know.Get me to Westwood and some waterand we can make a deal.

KENNYWhat do you know about Westwood?

JEDCliff gave me his map. The one yougave him.

Kenny digests all this info for a long second -- Jedwondering if he's about to die.

KENNY(lowering his gun)

Let's go.

Jed walks past Kenny.

KENNY (CONT'D)I'll decide whether or not to killyou later.

They walk back to the truck.


Bingham examines the dead Dirt Biker. His friend sits onthe ground nearby. Dwight's dogs sniff around.

DANA (O.S.)(calling out)

Bingham!



BINGHAMOver here. We've got something.

Dana emerges from the woods.

DANA

The clinic called.

BINGHAMWhat happened?

DANASome therapy but she's going to befine.

BINGHAMThank God.

DANA

There's something else the nursetold me.


Hayley drives the motor home towards the prison.


Hayley glances back at her kids.

Rudy keeps a vigilant eye on the road ahead.

HAYLEYWhat are you going to do with uswhen we get there?

RUDYNothing.

HAYLEYYou'll let us go?

RUDYWhy not?

HAYLEYWe won't tell anyone what you looklike.

RUDY Appreciate it.

(shifting to Hayley)But tell you the truth, I've takinga liking to this family stuff.



HAYLEYWhat are you talking about?

RUDYMaybe I'll stick around for awhile.Come see what your place looks like.

I mean it's not as if there'ssomeone else in the picture?

The locked gate to the penitentiary looms ahead. Hayleyslows down then comes to a stop.

RUDY (CONT'D)Give me the keys.

Hayley turns off the motor home and tosses the keys to Rudy.

RUDY (CONT'D)You known the drill.

He gets out and walks towards the gate. Hayley watchesmomentarily, then turns to Tiffany and Shane.

HAYLEYWe'll get out of this -- I promise.

INT. WESTWOOD PENITENTIARY -- DAY

Kenny studies Jed as he guzzles down water from a cooler.

KENNYI think we have some business totake care of.

Suddenly a red light on the wall starts flashing.

KENNY (CONT'D)Damnit. We've got company. Comeon.

Jed follows Kenny through the prison.

After passing through several open security gates theyarrive in the front entranceway.

Kenny and Jed stare out and down the road at the motor homestopped at the gate.

Rudy wanders around the entrance.

KENNY (CONT'D)Is that your buddy?

JED



He's not my buddy.

KENNYWho's with him?

JED

No one.

KENNYThen who's that sitting behind thewheel?

JEDI don't know.

(sweating it)He stole the RV. Must be the owner.

KENNYMan you guys really know how to

complicate things. This wassupposed to be a simple bank job.Let's go.

Jed follows Kenny closely.

With a fluid movement, Jed slides his hand into his shirtpocket, takes out his cell phone, and flings it across theroom.

The phone CLATTERS across the floor.

Kenny whirls around at the SOUND.

Jed throws himself at Kenny, SMASHING the man's head intothe wall. Kenny is stunned bot not out.

Jed SMASHES Kenny's head into the wall again...and again.Kenny slumps to the floor, blood trickling from his head.

Jed grabs Kenny's gun and runs into the prison.

EXT. WESTWOOD PENITENTIARY GATE -- DAY

Rudy punches a code into the electronic panel beside the

locked gate. Nothing happens. He tries again -- and waits.

The gate remains locked.

RUDYCliff you idiot.

Suddenly the gate unlocks and starts to swing open.

RUDY (CONT'D)



I take that back.

Rudy runs to the motor home and gets in.


He tosses the keys back to Hayley.

RUDYLet's go. It's almost over.

Hayley starts the motor home then drives through the opengates.

EXT. WESTWOOD PENITENTIARY GATE -- DAY

The gate swings shut behind the motor home.

END OF ACT SIX

ACT SEVEN


Bingham, Dana, Dwight and the dogs emerge into a clearing.

The prison is visible in the distance.

DANAI left the car down there.

Dana heads off along a narrow tract of land.

EXT. WESTWOOD PENITENTIARY -- DAY

The motor home is parked in front of the prison entrance.


Rudy locks the kids in the bathroom then pushes Hayley ontothe couch and handcuffs her to a hook on the wall.

RUDYDon't go away.

As soon as Rudy leaves the motor home Hayley struggles tofree herself.


Rudy strolls into the abandoned building.

RUDY(calling out)



Hello?(walking further in)

Kingman. You there?

Rudy walks past the Kingman's office, inspecting itcarefully.

He creeps further into the prison. The place is eerilyquiet.

Suddenly a DOOR BANGS.

Rudy turns and runs back to the entrance.


Jed steps cautiously into the motor home.


The relief is more than evident on Hayley's face when shesees Jed.

HAYLEYOh my God you're alive.

Jed rushes to her side. He notices her scraped wrists.

JED Are you all right?

HAYLEYI'm fine. The kids.

JEDWhere are they?

They kick at the bathroom door.

Jed pulls open the door.

Shane and Tiffany tumble onto the floor.

Jed crouches beside them, starting to take off their gags.

Tiffany throws her arms around Jed.

JED (CONT'D)Hi baby.

Jed stare down at Shane who slowly comes around.

SHANEDad?



HAYLEYThank God.

RUDY (O.S.)Well isn't this nice.

Rudy steps inside -- gun trained on Jed.

RUDY (CONT'D) A family reunion.

(to Jed)Put them back inside.

JEDWhat?

RUDYBack in the john. Now.

JEDNo.

RUDYYour choice.

HAYLEYJed. Better do what he says.

Jed picks up his kids and pushes them back inside thewashroom.

JEDI'm sorry.

SHANENo...please...

JEDIt'll be okay son.

TIFFANYDaddy?

He closes the door.

RUDY(tossing thehandcuff keys toJed)

Bring her with you.

Jed unlocks Hayley's handcuffs. Rudy leads them out of themotor home.




Dana drives, Bingham in the passenger seat.


Jed and Hayley march in front of Rudy.

Jed notices that Kenny is no longer lying in the spot wherehe left him.

Rudy marches them towards a cell.

RUDYLook, your own private room. Isn'tthis better than that rolling fleatrap outside.

Jed and Hayley freeze at the sight of the dilapidated cell.

RUDY (CONT'D)Inside.

Jed and Hayley steps inside the tiny cell as Rudy swings thedoor shut with a CLANG.

KENNY (O.S.)I think you should join them. Afteryou toss over your piece.

Rudy freezes and glances over his shoulder.

Kenny has the drop on him.

Rudy lowers his gun to the floor then slides it behind him.

It SKITTERS across the cement to Kenny's feet.

KENNY (CONT'D)Where's my money?

RUDYYou Kenny?

KENNYYou Jed?

RUDYNo. I'm Rudy. Cliff's partner.

KENNYI need a program to keep this allstraight. So why'd you kill mycousin.



RUDYI didn't. Cops did.

KENNYThat's not what he says.

Rudy slowly turns to face Kenny.

KENNY (CONT'D)Easy.

RUDYI just want to look at who I'mtalking to.

As Rudy turns his back to Kenny he reaches behind his backand under his shirt.

JED

He's got another gun.

Kenny FIRES.

Rudy ducks as he whips out his gun and FIRES.

The bullet SMASHES into Kenny's chest.

A SIREN can be heard outside.

Rudy takes off, leaving Jed and Hayley locked inside thecell, Kingman dying just feet away.

HAYLEYOh God, what are we going to do?

JEDI don't know.

HAYLEYThe kids. He's got the kids.

Jed paces, wondering what to do.

HAYLEY (CONT'D)

Jed. Look.

Kingman isn't dead. He crawls towards their cell.

KENNYHelp...me....

Inch by painful inch Kenny crawls closer to the cell.



Jed pushes his arm out between the bars as far as hecan..trying to grab onto Kenny.

HAYLEYWhat are you doing?

JEDKeys. He's probably got keys to thecell.

Hayley quickly joins Jed's efforts.

JED (CONT'D)Come on Kingman. Over here. I'llhelp you.

Jed and Hayley's arms are nearly pushed out of their socketsthey're straining so hard.

Finally, Jed's fingers latch onto a piece of Kenny's jacket.

He and Hayley combine their efforts to drag the GROANINGKenny to their cell.

Jed and Hayley fish through his pockets.

HAYLEYHere. I've got them.

Hayley pulls a ring of keys from Kenny's pocket.

KENNYHelp me...

Jed fumbles with the keys -- trying one and then another.Nothing seems to fit.

JEDThey don't work.

Jed returns to searching Kenny's pockets

JED (CONT'D)He must have another one.

Jed tears the pockets apart...nothing.

Suddenly Bingham appears.

BINGHAM(holding the keys)

Looking for these?

Jed freezes at the sight of the Sheriff.



JEDLook Sheriff, I didn't do anything.This is my wife and...

BINGHAMI know.

Bingham walks up and tries the keys in the cell door.

BINGHAM (CONT'D)We've got new information.

He keeps trying the keys until one them opens the door.

Bingham pulls open the door as Jed and Hayley step out.

HAYLEYMy kids. They're in the motor home.

BINGHAMThey'll be okay. My deputy'schecking it out right now.

JED And the other guy...Rudy.

BINGHAMWhat other guy?

A GUNSHOT from outside.

And then another GUNSHOT.

The three of them run for it.


Bingham, Jed, and Hayley all rush out to find Dana lying byher car, a gunshot wound to her shoulder. Bingham checksher out.

DANAI'm sorry. I didn't see him coming.

BINGHAMYou'll be okay.

DANAI think I hit him.

The motor home engine ROARS to life.

HAYLEYJed, the kids.



Rudy drives off in the motor home.

END OF ACT SEVEN

ACT EIGHT


Jed races for the RV as it starts to hit the road out andpull away.

The motor home TIRES SPIN as Rudy floors it. The bigvehicle fishtails slightly as Jed gains on the side door.

As the RV gets traction and speed up, Jed pulls open thedoor and jumps in.


Rudy jams his foot and FLOORS it as Jed barely pulls himselfinside. The bouncing knocks Jed around, the door bangingback and forth on his hands, threatening to loosen his gripon the frame.

Rudy suddenly realizes Jed is there.

He pulls out his gun and FIRES.

Jed ducks just in time as the bullet WHIZZES by.

JED(yelling)

Shane...Tiffany...you okay?

SHANE/TIFFANYDad! Get us out of here. Help me.

Rudy struggles to keep the speeding vehicle on the roadwhile trying to get off another shot at Jed.

He FIRES again.

This shot is even closer, SMASHING into the door frame byJed's head.

Rudy takes aim and this time Jed is right in the line offire.

CLICK. The gun misfires.

And again -- CLICK -- as Rudy pulls trigger.

He flings the gun at Jed's head.



The motor home weaves violently back and forth across thedirt road.


After a few rough CRASHES into the table and the bathroom

door, Jed grabs onto the door handle.

He opens the door and out fly his kids.

The rocking and rolling thrash Jed and the kids around onthe floor.

Jed clings to them and fights to untie their bonds. Hefirst gets Shane's hands free. While Jed unties Shane'sfeet...

JEDGet Tiffany's hands untied.

RUDY(over his shoulder)

Are we having fun now?

Rudy gives the old beater more gas. The engine STRAINSunder the extra power.


Bingham runs to his car.

BINGHAM(to Hayley)

Stay here with my Deputy.

HAYLEYJed -- my kids.

BINGHAMI'll get them.

Bingham jumps into his car and ROARS off.

EXT. ROAD TO THE QUARRY -- DAY

The quarry looms in the distance.

In the rear view mirror, Rudy sees Bingham's police lightsway in the distance behind him.

But it's close enough. He FLOORS IT.




Tiffany and Shane are untied.

JEDCome on.

The three of them crawl towards the door.

Tiffany freezes when she gets too close.

Jed crawls back to her.

JED (CONT'D)Come on honey, it's okay.

Tiffany doesn't budge.

TIFFANYI...can't...

JEDYou won't get hurt I promise.

TIFFANYWhat are we going to do?

JEDWe have to get out before he hurtsus...or we crash.

TIFFANYJump?

Shane suddenly realizes what that means as he stares out atthe ground ZIPPING by -- rocks CLANGING into the frame.

JEDWe don't have any choice Tiff.

TIFFANYI can't.

Jed is stymied.

JED

(to Shane)Stay with your sister.

Jed gets to his feet, braces himself, then starts for thefront.

Rudy spots him and weaves even more violently.

Jed painfully inches his way closer to the driver's seat.



As Jed nears his goal, Rudy reaches down and pulls aswitchblade from his ankle.

He reaches behind him -- swiping back and forth with therazor sharp knife.

RUDYCome on Dad. Make your move.

On hand on the wheel -- one hand taking swipes in Jed'sdirection.

Jed takes a chance and grabs for Rudy.

Both men are stunned when Jed actually grabs Rudy's knifehand. But Jed's grip isn't secure.

One good jerk of the steering wheel and Jed's loses Rudy'sarm.

The knife slices into Jed's hand.

RUDY (CONT'D)Nice try. Why don't you just jump?


Rudy hits a huge bump in the road.

The RV literally takes off and comes down with a BANG.


Jed is thrown to the floor.

AS he tries to get up he spots Shane's baseball bat rollingaround under the table.

Jed grabs it and gets up.

Rudy looks back at Jed as they hit another BUMP.

When Rudy turns his attention back to the road, Jed swings.

BAM. The bat lands with a thud against the side of Rudy'shead.

He slumps forward onto the steering wheel, his foot JAMMINGDOWN ON THE GAS.

Jed tries to pull Rudy from the driver's seat as the motorhome unbelievably speeds up some more.




The motor home VEERS off the dirt road and onto an old truckpath leading to the quarry.


Jed tries in vain to pull Rudy from the driver's seat.

JEDShane -- give me a hand.

SHANE(to Tiffany)

I'll be right back.

Shane crawls to the front of the motor home and standsbeside his father.

The sight of the speeding road ahead and the oncoming quarryoverwhelm the boy.

JEDCome on Shane, help me.

(noticing his fear)Come on son, you can do it.

Shane snaps out of it and grabs Rudy.

Together they pull as Rudy GROANS.

They pull but seem to make no headway.

SHANEHis seat belt.

JEDWhat?

SHANEHe's got his seat belt on.

Jed reaches down to unbuckle Rudy's seat belt.

The RV is ROCKING and ROLLING along the road.

JEDPull his foot off the gas.

Shane crawls under the seat and yanks at Rudy's leg. Theweight of the man leaning forward is too much for Shane.

SHANEI can't do it.

Jed unbuckles the belt as Rudy comes to.



JEDPull harder Shane.

Shane gives it everything he's got. And then...

Rudy's foot miraculously comes off the gas. It literally

flies off the gas peddle.

But the gas pedal stays jammed.

SHANEHey! I got it.

Shane crawls out and is horrified to see Rudy grappling withhis father.

The two men fall to the floor in their struggle.

SHANE (CONT'D)

Dad.

Tiffany crawls as far back in the RV as she can.

Shane looks out the front and sees the motor home racingright for the quarry cliff.

Jed and Rudy fight on the floor, Jed trying to get the bat,Rudy doing the same.

Shane gets into the driver's seat and grabs the wheel.

The pounding of the motor home on the rough road make ittough for Shane to turn the wheel.

He slams his foot down on the brakes but nothing happens.

SHANE (CONT'D)Dad -- I can't stop.

Shane hangs onto the wheel as best he can, slowly turningthe RV away from the quarry cliff.

EXT. QUARRY -- DAY

The motor home ROARS and BOUNCES right for the big pit.


Jed and Rudy trade blows, but Rudy is slowly getting theupper hand.

Tiffany snaps out of her trance when she sees her father introuble.



The baseball bat rolls away from the two men -- swaying backand forth on the floor.

Shane fights to turn the RV and is winning. But then --

EXT. QUARRY -- DAY

The vehicle rolls over a large stump that JAMS itself in thefront undercarriage.

Although the stump acts like a huge anchor, PLOWING up theground and slowing the vehicle, it immobilizes the steering.


Rudy lifts his arm to smash Jed when --

WHACK -- Tiffany clobbers him with the baseball bat.

Rudy collapses onto Jed. He shoves him off and grabs hisdaughter.

JEDGood swing --

They are suddenly HURLED forward as the motor home comes toa GRINDING HALT.

Jed and Tiffany gather their senses as the motor home rocksback and forth.

Shane is unconscious, slumped on the steering wheel.

EXT. QUARRY CLIFF -- DAY

The motor home teeters precariously on the edge, balanced ona rock abutment.

The front of the RV dangles over empty space -- threateningto tilt forward and go crashing down the cliff, takingeveryone with it.


The side door is crumpled shut.

With Rudy lying semi conscious and Shane slumped over thewheel -- Jed SMASHES the rear window with Shane's bat.

JED(to Tiffany)

You stay here until I get Shane,okay?



She nods her head weakly.

JED (CONT'D)It's important honey. You can'tmove.

Jed leaves his daughter and crawls towards the front.

The RV CREAKS as it rocks gently backwards and forwards.

JED (CONT'D)Shane -- can you hear me?

Shane begins to regain consciousness.

JED (CONT'D)Easy Shane -- don't move too fast.

SHANE

Dad?

Shane suddenly gets a literal bird's eye view of the emptyspace in front of him.

SHANE (CONT'D)(panic)

Daad....

JED(crawling)

I'm right here. I want you to movereal slow and crawl towards me.

Shane slides off his seat to the floor.


The motor home rocks and CREAKS -- GRINDING forward a fewinches.


Everyone freezes.

JEDThat was too fast.

Shane starts his crawl back towards his father and pastRudy.

JED (CONT'D)Keep coming -- he can't hurt you.

Shane creeps past Rudy and towards Jed.




The motor home EASES backwards with Shane's shifting weight.

The rear wheels come close to touching the ground.


JEDThat's it

Jed reaches out and grabs his son's hand -- just as Rudygrabs Shane's ankle.

SHANEDAD!!

Shane is caught in a tug and war between his father and Rudyas the two men pull on him.

SHANE (CONT'D)Get him off me.

Shane kicks out at Rudy, hitting him about the upper bodyand head. But the dazed killer keeps hanging on.

Jed pulls on his son's arm as he reaches back for the batand starts swinging at Rudy.

The bat SMASHES into Rudy's arm, breaking it.

He let's go of Shane's leg.

JED(grabbing Shane)

Come on.

They scamper to the back of the RV.

JED (CONT'D)(to Shane)

You go first and catch Tiffany onthe other side.

Shane, helped by Jed, climbs up and out the rear window.


Shane hits the rear bumper, bringing the motor home to theground, but he falls off.


The motor home goes down and then back up.



JEDShane -- get back on the bumper.


Shane climbs back on the rising bumper. His weight is

enough to stabilize the RV.

Tiffany is pushed through the rear window.

JED (O.S.)Help your sister.

Shane helps Tiffany climb through the window.

They both slip from the bumper and fall to the ground.

The motor home rises up again -- GRINDING forward, closer togoing over the cliff.

SHANE(to Tiffany)

Grab on.

The two kids throw their weight onto the bumper.


Jed is clawing his way to the rear exit as Rudy comes aliveand dives for Jed.

The two men grapple, reaching for the bat.

It rolls away as they pound each other.

They shift their weight and the RV drops to the ground witha BANG.

Rudy finds his gun and pulls out the clip. It's stillloaded.

RUDYYou are one lucky son of a bitch.

Jed climbs through the window as Rudy aims and FIRES.


Jed drops to the ground as the BULLET SMASHES into the rearwindow frame.


Rudy scrambles for the rear window as the RV tilts forward.




Jed huddles with his kids.

JEDGo on. Run.

They hesitate.

Bingham's car RACES towards them, still too far away tohelp.

JED (CONT'D)Go on. I'm coming.

Shane and Tiffany get up and run towards the oncoming policecar.

Suddenly, Rudy's hands appear clutching at the rear window

frame -- one of them hanging onto his gun.

Shane turns around to look for his father.

SHANE(warning)

DAD!

Jed looks up at Rudy clawing his way out.

Jed gets up and grabs the bumper as Rudy leans out of theRV.

Jed uses every last ounce of strength he has left to liftthe bumper and shift the weight of the RV forward.

Before Rudy can fire, the RV shifts one last time.

Rudy slips and FALLS back inside the motor home. That's allit needs to finally go down.

Jed walks to the edge of the cliff as his motor home goesCRASHING and BANGING it's way down the quarry cliff --exploding into a million pieces.

Bingham is getting out of his car as Deputy Flowers carSKIDS to a stop beside him.

Hayley jumps out and runs to her kids, wrapping her armsaround them.

Jed limps over to his family and joins the embrace asBingham walks over to the edge of the cliff and stares downat Rudy's mangled body and the shattered motor home.
