Owners Pty Ltd, was first purchased by Andrew Williams Bloodstock for $26,000 at the Magic Millions Gold Coast March Yearling Sale from the Bahrinna draft.

Last month, the colt breezed up in 10.74 seconds at Seymour and provided a significant return on his investment at a sale which averaged $59,332 and achieved a median of $40,000 at a clearance rate of 70 per cent.

The colt, who was consigned by Bourne’s Network Bloodstock operation as Lot 232, is the first foal out of the juvenile winner of eight races Shakeva (Waterford Road).

“It was an outstanding result. When you get here and realise there is a lot of interest in the horse your expectations rise a little but probably not to that extent,” Bourne told ANZ Bloodstock News.

“Andrew was up here at the March sale and did a shortlist for me and I then told him the ones that I fancied and went from there.”

Bourne has prepared horses for the ready to race two-year-old sales in the past, but this year was the first time he has purchased horses himself purposely to aim at the horses in training sale on the Gold Coast.

“I have done it for other people over the years, but this year for no other reason other than I was a bit light on for numbers in the stable, so I thought I would prepare a few for the ready to run sales this year,” he said.

Bourne said the colt developed significantly from when he was broken in to breeze up time in September.

“The work part of things has turned him into a racehorse. He went to Linc Sullivan (at Tatura) to be broken in and there were good reports from him all the way through and he has been a lovely horse.”

Bourne also sold Lot 200, an Equiano (Acclamation) colt, for $110,000 to Singapore-based trainer Theo Kieser and passed in a Poet’s Voice (Dubawi) colt on day one of the sale for $60,000 (reserve $75,000).

A half-brother to Listed winner Pantenny (Canny Lad), herself the dam of Group Three winner Thames Court (Commands), the Equiano colt was bought for $33,000 at the Magic Millions Adelaide Yearling Sale.

“They are hard to find. I came here with three horses and I went to six sales and looked at probably hundreds and hundreds of horses,” Bourne said.

“It is a lot of work to get that point.”The Love Conquers All colt was selected by Victorian trainer Tony

Vasil for Hong Kong-based Lucky Owners Pty Ltd.Fellow Victorian trainer Kelvin Bourke, who bid on the horse for the

new owner, said the colt was clear top lot of the sale in Vasil’s opinion.“Tony had been and inspected the horse and bought him on behalf

of (Lucky Owners) and the horse will possibly to Hong Kong,” Bourke told ANZ Bloodstock News.

“Tony is probably one of the best judges anywhere and he loved him. He looked at a lot of horses and he loved this one.”

Woodpark Stud sell Smart Missile colt for $280,000

New South Wales-based Woodpark Stud, the second leading vendor by average (three or more sold) at the sale, also parted with a colt for $280,000 on day two of the sale, a juvenile by Arrowfield Stud-based stallion Smart Missile.

Catalogued as Lot 245, the colt was purchased by Hong Kong-based owner Pato Leung after recording the fastest breeze up time of 10.31 seconds at the Warwick Farm session last month.

Dr Ben Mason of Crown Equine Veterinary Services purchased the Smart Missile colt on Leung’s behalf yesterday.

“We knew this horse would be quite hot in the Hong Kong market and my client was very keen on this horse from the outset,” Dr Mason told ANZ Bloodstock News.

“The diagnostics were fantastic on this horse and in the breeze up he made it look easy really and ran 10.31 seconds, so he was just the one to get. My client was extremely happy to be able to purchase him.”

Mason said the colt would be sent to Victoria to be prepared for Hong Kong next year.

“He will come to (Victoria) for a few months and then we will plan his route to Hong Kong next year,” he said.

“It is up to the owner, but he will probably have a barrier trial here first before going to Hong Kong.”

The colt is out of the unraced mare Snowy World (Spinning World), who is a sister to the Listed winner Torah, and was purchased by Woodpark Stud for $75,000 at the Inglis Classic Yearling Sale from the Arrowfield Stud draft in February this year.

Smart Missile, who stands for a fee of $22,000 (inc GST) this year, had five two-year-olds sell at the sale for an aggregate of $962,500 and an average of $192,500 including the sale-topping colt sold offered by Kenmore Lodge for $320,000 on Tuesday.

“He is a good horse who is well put together and very sound. He looks precocious and is ready to go,” Woodpark Stud’s Jean Dubois told ANZ Bloodstock News.

“We bought him from the Arrowfield Stud at

Thursday 12 October 2017 | 6 |Sears buys familiar All Too Hard colt

the Classic sale and from day one he has been the sort of horse who has been easy to train. When they are good they are easy to train.”

Woodpark Stud also sold a Husson (Hussonet) gelding for $130,000 and a Helmet (Exceed And Excel) colt for $90,000 yesterday.

On day one, Woodpark Stud also sold a Stratum (Redoute’s Choice) colt for $240,000 to Rosehill-based trainer Gary Moore.

In total, Woodpark Stud sold six two-year-olds for an aggregate of $808,000 at an average of $134,667.

“This is our second year and we are happy so far with the results, so we will be back again next year,” he said.

“We could extend to ten or 12, perhaps 15 horses maximum, but that is enough,”

Dubois also trains a number of racehorses from his Mittagong property while preparing horses for the breeze up sales. He trained this year’s Albury Gold Cup (Listed, 2000m) winner Green Sweet (Smart Strike).

“We train a few just to keep us busy in the morning,” he said.

Sears buys familiar All Too Hard coltSome inside knowledge about an All Too Hard (Casino Prince) colt by

Tony Sears led the Toowoomba-based trainer to outlay $160,000 for the Baramul Stud-consigned two-year-old yesterday.

Catalogued as Lot 198, the colt is out of the unplaced Perfect Stranger (Red Ransom), a sister to Schillaci Stakes (Gr 2, 1100m) winner Halibery. Kingsford-Smith Cup (Gr 1, 1300m) winner Clearly Innocent (Not A Single Doubt), who runs in Saturday’s $10,000,000 The Everest (1200m), is also from the same female family.

Sears, who bought the horse in conjunction with Pinhook Bloodstock, revealed yesterday that he prepared the colt for the sale on behalf of Baramul Stud proprietor Gerry Harvey, with the juvenile breezing up at the Gold Coast in 10.59 seconds.

“I had him in training for Gerry Harvey to get him ready for the breeze ups, so I have had him for the past couple of months and know a bit about him,” Sears told ANZ Bloodstock News.

“He breezed up really nicely and I think there is a good future for him.”A half-brother to two winners, who have won up to 1500 metres and

1900 metres respectively, Sears said the colt would be spelled instead of targeting early two-year-old races in Queensland.

The colt was purchased on behalf of overseas-based clients.“I will put him out for a while and won’t do too much with him and try

him a bit later on,” he said,“He might race as a late two-year-old, but he definitely won’t be

racing in the Magic Millions or anything like that,”Meanwhile, Baramul Stud also sold a colt by by evergreen Vinery

Stud shuttler More Than Ready (Southern Halo) to premier Brisbane trainer Tony Gollan for $150,000.

Cataloged as Lot 170, the colt is out of Group Two-winning mare Military Rose (General Nediym), who also won the Magic Millions 2YO Classic (RL, 1200m).

A half-brother to two winners, the colt breezed up in a time of 10.52 seconds at the Gold Coast.

Overall, Baramul Stud sold 24 two-year-olds at the sale for an aggregate of $841,000 at an average of $35,042.

The leading vendor by aggregate was Queensland operation Symphony Lodge, which is based at Oakey near Toowoomba, selling 22 two-year-olds for a total of $1,052,500.

Sebring colt bound for Sunshine Coast stable

Sunshine Coast-based trainer Stuart Kendrick did not think he would be able to buy a well-bred colt by Sebring (More Than Ready) yesterday, but was pleasantly surprised to be able to secure the colt for $160,000.

Catalogued as Lot 179 from the Widden Stud draft, the colt is a half-brother to Sydney-winning filly Sangiovese (Stratum) and the winning Terminally Pretty (More Than Ready).

Passed in at the Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale earlier this year, the colt is the fourth foal out of US Listed winner Moon De French (Malibu Moon), a half-sister to the US stakes-placed sprinter Spun Silky (Hard Spun).

He breezed up in 10.32 seconds at Warwick Farm, only bettered on the day by Lot 245 who sold later yesterday for $280,000.

“He was my pick of the sale and was a cracking type very much in the Sebring mould,” Kendrick told ANZ Bloodstock News.

“We had him vetted out and breezed up in sensational time in Sydney.”With six horses making $240,000 or more at the sale, Kendrick was

delighted to buy the colt for what he considered to be good value at $160,000.“He only sold for half what a couple sold for around the $300,000

mark (on Tuesday), so I thought he would be outside my budget. I am excited to get him,” he said.

The headstrong colt will be taken to Kendrick’s stable and assessed before any plans are made for the horse.

“He has been here a few days and he got a bit excited about the back, but he looks all racehorse, so hopefully he settles down in the stables with a bit of work,” he said.

Kendrick has previously had success with the progeny of the Widden Stud-based stallion Sebring, including training Typing to win the Dalrello Stakes (Listed, 1200m) at Toowoomba.

At the Magic Millions Gold Coast 2YOs In Training Sale, Widden Stud sold three horses for an aggregate of $513,000 at an average of $128,250.

Sale surpasses $10,000,000 markAt the conclusion of the Magic Millions 2YOs In Training Sale

yesterday, the average was $59,322, up 21 per cent on last year, with the median also increasing from $35,000 in 2016 to $40,000 this year.

The sale could not maintain the momentum that started on day one, with the average and median falling from $65,665 and the median from $50,000 but the clearance rate increased slightly from 68 per cent to 70 per cent.

“It is a good sound sale. If you are selling seven out of ten horses is pretty good. We would like to be selling more, but we have grown the average and grown the median (on the 2016 sale) so that in itself pleasing,” Magic Millions managing director Vin Cox told ANZ Bloodstock News.

“Two-year-old sales by their nature are hard to conduct. There is a lot of emotion in the sale, so it is a matter of being able to balance all that and getting a result for both buyer and vendor.” Continued on page 8>>

International buyers were once again the backbone of the buying bench yesterday, with Hong Kong and Singapore featuring prominently on the list of purchasers at the sale.

“The sale didn’t quite end as strong as we had hoped but in all it has been a relatively solid sale,” he said.

“Going on leading buyers by jurisdiction, Hong Kong was on top with 24 horses at $2,600,000 while Queensland was next at 35 lots for $1,600,000 which is a fantastic result for the Queensland thoroughbred industry.

“Singapore were again very strong with 19 horses for $1,250,000 and Thailand came in with eight horses at $1,100,000 and those (Thailand purchases) will ultimately race in Singapore.”

The leading buyer was Thailand-based Vichit Pongsri-iam, who races numerous horses in Singapore. At the sale he purchased five two-year-olds for an aggregate of $700,000 at an average of $140,000 including the highest-priced colt at the sale.

Sean Buckley’s Ultra Thoroughbred Racing and TK Racing’s Dr Toby Koenig was the second leading buyer with for lots at an aggregate of $555,000 including a Written Tycoon (Iglesia) colt on day one for $300,000.

Summer Passage well ahead of GuineasCo-trainers Andrew Scott and Lance O’Sullivan say Summer Passage (Snitzel) is in peak condition ahead of his tilt in the Caulfield Guineas (Gr 1, 1600m) on Saturday. The Group One winner tuned up for his assault on the $2,000,000 race by running second in the Caulfield Guineas Prelude (Gr 3, 1400m) on 1 October and he will race from barrier 17 with Glen Boss set to take the ride. "He's come on well from each race and he's very bright and full of himself," Scott said. "His blood is good and we believe he's a top chance on Saturday, although the visitors draw has made things harder."

Levendi to run in the GuineasManny Gelagotis, racing manager for his brother Peter Gelagotis, is confident Levendi (Pierro) can put in a big performance when he lines up in the Caulfield Guineas on Saturday. While connections were initially disappointed with his sixth place finish in the Caulfield Guineas Prelude, after a closer look at the sectional timings they were more satisfied with the performance. "His sectionals the other day were exciting and I think now with the barrier draws and the way the race looks, I think he's going to get a terrific run," Manny Gelagotis said. "It will give him his fair opportunity to compete which I don't think really happened in the Prelude. It was a pretty farcically run race.”

Winkers on Eclair SunshineTrainer Phillip Stokes will be hoping winkers will bring about improvement in Eclair Sunshine (All Too Hard) when he takes his chance in the Caulfield Guineas on Saturday. The gelding ran second to Royal Symphony (Domesday), who he will face again on Saturday, in the Pin and Win Plate (Listed, 1400m) before finishing fifth Caulfield Guineas Prelude on 1 October. "I've

just tinkered with a bit of gear to try to get him to go a bit straighter," Stokes said. "All I can do is draw a line in the sand. He's raced twice against Royal Symphony and they've finished very close to each other. I'm happy with my horse."

Purcell hopeful Aloisia can go closeOnly a few weeks after taking over the running of the suspended Ciaron Maher’s stable, Aaron Purcell will get the chance to win his first Group One race when he saddles Group One-placed Aloisia (Azamour) in the Thousand Guineas (Gr 1, 1600m) at Caulfield on Saturday. "She's going great," Purcell said. "She's probably going to be better suited over a bit further, possibly the Oaks, but there's no reason why she shouldn't run a really good race. She seems to be a pretty straight forward horse. She does her work and gallops like a good horse. And she just gets around the stable like a regular horse."

Bonneval and Hartnell clash againGroup One winners Hartnell (Authorized) and Bonneval (Makfi) look set to renew their rivalry in the Caulfield Stakes (Gr 1 2000m) on Saturday. The Murray Baker and Andrew Forsman-trained Bonneval got the better of the Godolphin-raced Hartnell when the pair met in the Underwood Stakes (Gr 1, 1800m), but trainer James Cummings is confident the gelding can reverse the form on Saturday. “He looks to be in the best condition of his whole preparation,” said Cummings. “He is getting out to ten furlongs for the first time and he has had three runs. At each of his past two runs there have been things that didn’t go his way and he still ran very well to finish second.” Hartnell races from barrier seven, while Bonneval has drawn barrier 11.

Single Gaze in peak conditionTrainer Nick Olive says he could not be happier with the condition of Group One winner Single

Morning Briefing

Gaze (Not A Single Doubt) ahead of her tilt at the Caulfield Stakes on Saturday. Last seen running fourth in the Underwood Stakes, Single Gaze has drawn barrier one with Kathy O’Hara booked to take the ride. "It's awesome," Olive said. "I've never had a horse this good. Even just the vibe out at Caulfield on Tuesday morning at trackwork was unreal. Just being part of that and to be aiming towards these big races is pretty exciting for the whole team involved." Olive is mapping out a campaign aimed at the Caulfield Cup (Gr 1, 2400m) on a seven-day back-up after Caulfield Stakes

O’Brien pair ready for Caulfield StakesIreland’s champion trainer Aidan O’Brien is set to saddle both Taj Mahal (Galileo) and Group One winner Johannes Vermeer (Galileo) in the Caulfield Stakes on Saturday. The pair will race in the colours of five-time Melbourne Cup winning owner Lloyd Williams, whose son Nick was at Werribee on Wednesday morning to watch the pair work. "From all reports T J Comerford seems very happy with them," Williams said. "The lads looking after them seem happy and their work today looked impressive. They were squeezed up a couple of furlongs in their work so we're hopeful they can give a positive showing on Saturday."

Caledron pleases CurrieThe Tony McEvoy-trained Calderon (Lope De Vega) impressed jockey Luke Nolen when he galloped the colt ahead of his tilt at the Caulfield Stakes on Saturday. The five-year-old, known as Steel Of Madrid during a 13-start stint for Richard Hannon for whom he took out the Earl Of Sefton Stakes (Gr 3, 1m1f), has drawn barrier eight when he makes his Australian debut this weekend. "He is a lovely type of horse and that was his first bit of serious work he's done since he's been out here," Currie told Racing.com. "His work was good and when he balanced in the straight he was really good. I'd be surprised if he wasn't up with the top end."

Saturday’s Toorak Handicap (Gr 1, 1600m) at Caulfield has yielded a full field of 18, plus one emergency, with the Chris Waller-trained dual Group One winner Egg Tart (Sebring) heading the betting at $6.50 chance with CrownBet. The mare has drawn barrier nine for Damien Oliver and will line up alongside stablemates Comin’ Through (Fastnet Rock) and Tom Melbourne (Dylan Thomas), who will race from barriers four and 15 respectively. Meanwhile, Anthony Freedman has accepted with Sir Rupert Clarke Stakes (Gr 1, 1400m) runner-up Mr Sneaky (High Chaparral) for the $500,000 race.

Nolen picks up ride on KasperskyJockey Luke Nolen has picked up the ride aboard the British raider Kaspersky (Footstepsinthesand) in the Toorak Handicap on Saturday after Michelle Payne was ruled out with a bout of flu. Payne, who guided Kaspersky to fifth place in the Queen Anne Stakes (Gr 1, 1m) at Royal Ascot in June, also missed the ride aboard the entire in the Hungerford Stakes (Gr 2, 7f) in August through illness. "There's lots of flu going around Melbourne at the moment and I've got a bit of a head cold myself," trainer Jane Chapple-Hyam said. "So, unfortunately, she's not able to ride and we've gone and engaged Luke Nolen.”

Three for Lindsay Park in DebutantLindsay Park will launch a three-pronged attack on the Debutant Stakes (Listed, 1000m) at Caulfield on Saturday, with the trio headed by Qafila (Not A Single Doubt), who was purchased by Shadwell Australasia for $450,000 at the Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling from the Attunga Stud draft in 2017. Qafila who won her 800 metre trial at Wodonga on 12 September, beating Nomothaj (Snitzel) in the process, who subsequently went on to win the Maribyrnong

Trial (Listed, 1000m). He will line up alongside stablemates Grand Challenge (Not A Single Doubt) and Speedy Kitty (Exceed And Excel).

11 run in Herbert PowerTrainer Robert Hickmott is well represented in the Herbert Power Stakes (Gr 2, 2400m) at Caulfield, with the operation responsible for three of the 11 runners, headed by last start The Metropolitan (Gr 1, 1400m) winner Foundry (Galileo). Starting from barrier five, Foundry will line up alongside stablemates Gallante (Galileo) and Aloft (Galileo). Meanwhile, Lindsay Park will also saddle three runners in the race accepting with Boom Time (Flying Spur), Harlow Gold (Tavistock) and Fanatic (Shocking). Two european runners have accepted for the $400,000 race with Charlie Appleby set to run Kidmenever (Baltic King) and Hugo Palmer will saddle Wall Of Fire (Canford Cliffs) in the Group Two.

Lankan Rupee headlines Schillaci fieldThe Mick Price-trained Lankan Rupee (Redoute's Choice) will look to snap a losing streak that stretches back to his win in the 2015 Black Caviar Lightning Stakes (Gr 1, 1000m) when he takes his chance in Saturday’s Schillaci Stakes (Gr 2, 1100m) at Caulfield. The son of Redoute’s Choice (Danehill) will take his chance alongside Group One winner Sheidel (Holy Roman Emperor) and Group Three winner Missrock (Fastnet Rock). Meanwhile, Rock Magic (Redoute’s Choice) multiple Group Three winner also looks set to line up in the $400,000 contest.

Split Lip set for Thoroughbred StakesThe Will Clarken-trained Split Lip (Your Song) heads the full field of 16 runners plus three emergencies for Saturday’s Thoroughbred Stakes (Gr 3, 1200m) at Caulfield. The stakes winner has drawn barrier three for jockey Linda Meech. He looks set to take his chance alongside the the James Cummings-trained Group Three-placegetter Jorda (Exceed And Excel), who will race from barrier one with jockey Glyn Schofield booked to take the ride. Meanwhile Phillip Stokes will run Counterplay (Sepoy) and Robert Smerdon has accepted with Divine Messenger (Star Witness), who have drawn barriers 11 and 12 respectively.

Ten in the Northwood PlumeA total of ten mares have accepted for the Cape Grim Beef Stakes (registered as Northwood Plume Stakes) (Gr 3, 1200m) at Caulfield on Saturday, with the field headed by Group Three winner Legless Veuve (Pins), who has drawn barrier five for Mark Zahra. The Stuart Webb-trained mare will clash with the SAJC Redelva Stakes (Listed, 1100m) winner Desert Lashes (Reward For Effort), who will be looking to regain her winning thread after suffering her first career defeat last time out. Meanwhile, the Lindsay Park-trained stakes winner Miss Gunpowder (Pendragon) also looks set to take her change in the race. Click here to view Saturday’s Caulfield acceptances.

Lloyd not giving away tacticsJockey Jeff Lloyd will be keeping his tactics in The Everest (1200m) close to his chest as he prepares to ride the Toby Edmonds-trained Houtzen (I Am Invincible) in the $10,000,000 race. Drawn in barrier one, three-year-old filly goes into the race off the back of a last start victory in the MVRC Champagne Stakes (Gr 3, 1200m) at Moonee Valley on 29 September. "If I had drawn barrier 10 or 11 there would have been only one choice - to lead. But from barrier one there are more options," Lloyd said. "Should they want to go mad early I would be happy to take a sit behind them. Barrier one is a big advantage in a race like this. I want to see how the track is playing and how the speed in other races is working out before I get too carried away.”

Waterhouse has confidence in EnglishGai Waterhouse is confident that Group One-winning mare English (Encosta De Lago) can make her presence felt from her wide draw in barrier 12 in The Everest on Saturday. The five-year-old was a closing second in the Premiere Stakes (Gr 2, 1200m) at her last start and Waterhouse believes the mare is in prime condition. "She's been beaten a few times but she's come right at the right time," Waterhouse said. "I think she'll win. She's tough and she's rolled up her sleeves for the day and we've got her ready.”

Rejuvenated Fell Swoop ready for The EverestTrainer Matt Dale is hopeful multiple Group One placegetter Fell Swoop (Not A Single Doubt) can run a big race in The Everest at Randwick. The gelding, who is set to represent slot holder Inglis, will race in winkers for the first time in the $10,000,000 sprint and has had his routine switched up near the coast at Moruya. "He's been on the beach for the last two weeks enjoying the life down in Moruya and I'm told he's picked up a lot," Inglis managing director Mark Webster said. "The change of the scene, the winkers and Matt's full-time dedication will hopefully make a difference."

Happy Clapper to Craven PlateLast start Epsom Handicap (Gr 1, 1600m) winner Happy Clapper (Teofilo) will have his final run before a potential tilt at the Cox Plate (Gr 1, 2040m) in the Craven Plate (Gr 3, 2000m) at Randwick on Saturday. The Patrick Webster-trained gelding will race from barrier one under regular jockey Blake Shinn in the $500,000 Group Three and is set to face 11 rivals, including Group One-winning pair Sense Of Occasion (Street Sense) and He’s Our Rokkii (Roc De Cambes).

St Leger trip to suit ChocanteTrainer Stephen Marsh is looking forward to tackling the $500,000 St Leger Stakes (2600m) at Randwick on Saturday with Chocante (Shocking). The five-year-old ran third in The Metropolitan (Gr 1, 2400m) at his last start, and Marsh expects the slightly longer trip to suit the gelding. “He keeps improving with each run and the step up to 2600 metres will be ideal for him. We’re very happy with him and a shower of rain would be perfect,” Marsh said. “As long as he runs well, we will definitely be going to Melbourne and then we would look at the options before the Cup.” Click here to view Saturday’s Randwick acceptances.

Godolphin duo break maidensThe Godolphin-raced pair Savatiano (Street Cry) and Isaurian (Exceed And Excel) broke

their respective maidens at Warwick Farm yesterday. Savatiano, who was having her first start since running fifth in the Sweet Embrace Stakes (Gr 2, 1200m) at Randwick in February, beat Empress Matilda (Charge Forward) by half a length over 1100 metres. In the preceding race, the promising Isaurian, who had won two barrier trials at Warwick Farm last month, beat Enfield Opp (Redoute’s Choice) by two and a half lengths to score on his debut.

In Her Time handed Manikato optionConnections of In Her Time (Time Thief) are considering scratching the mare from Randwick this weekend and saving her for a tilt at the Manikato Stakes (Gr 1, 1200m) at Moonee Valley on 27 October. The Ben Smith-trained mare, who took out the Premiere Stakes (Gr 2, 1200m) at her last start, is the first emergency for The Everest (1200m) and is also accepted to run in the $500,000 Sydney Stakes (Listed, 1200m). A decision on whether she sidesteps this weekend’s lucrative fixture is expected to be made shortly.

Sectional timing launchedSectional timing for all Victorian TAB meetings was launched yesterday by Racing Victoria (RV) in conjunction with Racing.com. RV has entered into a partnership with Daily Sectionals to deliver sectional timing for the 433 TAB meetings conducted across country Victoria and at Sandown each season. The data will include both 200 metre split times and 200 metre cumulative sectional times, along with the positions-in-running for each individual horse. "We're pleased to partner with Daily Sectionals to ensure that, for the first time ever, punters, owners, participants and the media will have free access to sectional times for each horse at Victorian TAB meetings," RV chief executive Giles Thompson said.

Kapoor to tackle Soliloquy StakesPromising three-year-old Kapoor (Reliable Man) will be aimed towards the Soliloquy Stakes (Listed, 1400m) at Ellerslie on 28

October next up after she broke her maiden at Taupo yesterday. The John Bell-trained filly raced up with the pace throughout over 1300 metres before stretching clear in the closing stages to beat My Dakota (Per Incanto) by a length and a quarter. “She’s a professional and we think a lot of her,” Bell said. “The Soliloquy Stakes will be next for her.”

Aim Smart given Zacinto assignmentGroup Three placegetter Aim Smart (Smart Missile) will tackle the Zacinto Stakes (Listed, 1600m) at Riccarton on 28 October next up ahead of a possible New Zealand Two Thousand Guineas (Gr 1, 1600m) tilt. The China Horse Club-raced colt endured a tough run when 11th in the Hawke’s Bay Guineas (Gr 2, 1400m) at his last start, and trainer Tony Pike is keen to give the three-year-old a sighter around Riccarton before the Guineas next month. “He’ll probably go down for the Zacinto Stakes,” Pike said.

Euphoria to have Group Three prep runThe lightly raced Euphoria (Rip Van Winkle) is to be given a prep run ahead of her tilt at the Canterbury Breeders’ Stakes (Gr 3, 1400m) at Riccarton on 15 November. The Rachael Frost-trained four-year-old mare was a comfortable winner a Pukekura last time and she will run over 1400 metres at Hawke’s Bay on 22 October next up. “She’ll run in a Rating 75 over 1400 metres and she probably won’t run again before the Breeders’ Stakes,” Frost said. “Hopefully, all her problems are behind her - she’s well above average.”

Dolcetto likely to miss remainder of springThe progressive Dolcetto (Per Incanto) is likely to miss the remainder of the spring and be aimed at a summer campaign. The Sylvia Kay-trained five-year-old has won his last five starts, including the Metric Mile (Gr 3, 1550m) at Awapuni on 16 September. “He had seedy toe and the farrier dug it out and had to go quite a way up and the horse was a bit tentative, but he’s coming right,” Kay said. “He’s had a week off now and it might be a good time to give him another three or four weeks off and then come back for the Christmas racing and in January.”

Wairarapa meeting abandonedToday’s Wairarapa race meeting has become the latest casualty of the wet spring in New Zealand. Champion griffin Premiere scores at Happy ValleyLast season’s champion griffin Premiere (Dylan Thomas) continued his good start to the new season with victory in the Class Two Kwoon Chung Bus Cup (1000m) at Happy Valley yesterday evening. The John Size-trained gelding, who made a winning reappearance over 1000 metres at Sha Tin last month, was quickly away under Karis Teetan and made all the running in the HK$1,860,000 sprint, kicking inside the final 200 metres to beat Born In China (Shamardal) by three quarters of a length, with Mr Genuine (Dark Angel) a further neck behind in third place. Arrogate to retire after Breeders’ CupFour-time Grade One winner and the world’s highest-rated horse Arrogate (Unbridled’s Song) will be retired to stud after the defence of his Breeders’ Cup Classic (Gr 1, 10f) crown at Del Mar on 4 November. A stud fee for the Juddmonte Farms-raced four-year-old, who is the highest-earning horse in history with US$17,298,514 in prize money and was described by his trainer Bob Baffert as “the greatest horse I've ever seen run", has yet to be announced. "Arrogate is training forwardly towards his next start in the Classic, as witnessed by his bullet workout today," Juddmonte's Garrett O'Rourke said.

New Book Two record at TattersallsA colt by Sea The Stars (Cape Cross) was yesterday purchased for 850,000 guineas by Shadwell to set a new record price for Book Two of the Tattersalls October Yearling Sale. The Allevamento Le Gi-consigned colt, catalogued as Lot 1063, is from a high-class Italian family

and is a half-brother to Group One winner Biz The Nurse (Oratorio (IRE)) and Group Two winner Biz Heart (Roderic O’Connor). "He was really a Book One horse, but my other lot in this year's draft was in Book Two and they were travelling together so it made sense to sell them in the same week,” said Massimo Parri, president of the Italian Thoroughbred Breeders’ Association and owner of Sienna-based farm Allevamento Le Gi.

Roger Varian secures Lope De Vega coltTrainer Roger Varian struck the winning bid of 500,000 guineas to secure a colt by Lope De Vega (Shamardal) from the draft of Ballyhimikin Stud at Book Two yesterday. Catalogued as Lot 1076, the colt is the first foal out of Group Three placegetter Boston Rocker (Acclamation) from the family of Group One winner Rivet (Fastnet Rock). "Boston Rocker was a very fast mare,” said James Hanly of Ballyhimikin Stud. “It's a great family and this is a great start. She has a Kingman colt foal and is in foal to Muhaarar."

JJ Gordon purchases three lots at Book TwoAt time of going to press, Australian bloodstock agent JJ Gordon had purchased three lots at the final session of Book Two yesterday for total spend of 820,000 guineas. The most expensive was Lot 1158, a Kodiac (Danehill) filly from the family of dual Group One winner Danseuse Du Soir (Thatching) and former Italian champion two-year-old Scintillo (Fantastic Light) who cost 300,000 guineas from the Grangemore Stud draft. Gordon also purchased a Dark Angel (Acclamation) filly for 280,000 guineas and a daughter of Speightstown (Gone West) for 240,000 guineas. Click here to see the results from day three of Book Two.

Happily heads 12 for Fillies’ MileThe Aidan O’Brien-trained Happily (Galileo) heads a field of 12 for the Fillies’ Mile (Gr 1, 1m) at Newmarket tomorrow. The filly, who is a sister to Group One winners Gleneagles and Marvellous, is already a dual Group One winner having taken out the Moyglare Stud Stakes (Gr 1, 7f) and Prix Marcel Boussac (Gr 1, 1600m) in recent weeks. She faces high-class stablemates Magical (Galileo) and September

(Deep Impact) in the £567,500 race, as well as the Karl Burke-trained May Hill Stakes (Gr 2, 1m) winner Laurens (Siyouni).

O’Brien likely to saddle four in DewhurstAidan O’Brien is likely to saddle four runners in the Dewhurst Stakes (Gr 1, 7f) at Newmarket on Saturday as he closes in on the record number of Group One winners in a calendar year. O’Brien has sent out 23 winners at the highest level in 2017, two behind Bobby Frankel’s record, and his challenge will be headed by recent Middle Park Stakes (Gr 1, 6f) winner US Navy Flag (War Front). “US Navy Flag is a very progressive horse. We always thought he worked like a nice horse but he was just a little bit slow to learn,” O’Brien told the Racing Post. He could be joined by Seahenge (Scat Daddy), Mendelssohn (Scat Daddy) and Threeandfourpence (War Front) in the prestigious Group One.

Marsha to head to Del MarDual Group One-winning sprinter Marsha (Acclamation) will travel to California for a tilt at the Breeders’ Cup Turf Sprint (Gr 1, 6f) at Del Mar on 4 November. The Sir Mark Prescott-trained filly, who collared Lady Aurelia (Scat Daddy) to win the Nunthorpe Stakes (Gr 1, 5f) at York in August, has reportedly pulled up well after her second in the Prix de l’Abbaye (Gr 1, 1000m) on 1 October. "The plan is to head to America," Dan Downie of owners Elite Racing told Press Association Sport. "It was always an option after York given that was a win-and-you're-in race. We'd had it in the back of our minds but a lot depended on what happened in Chantilly and yet again she ran another tremendous race behind Battaash.”

Greenpointcrusader to stand at Ocala StudGrade One-winning colt Greenpointcrusader (Bernardini) has been retired to stud and will stand his first season in 2018 at Ocala Stud in Florida. The four-year-old ran out an impressive winner of the Champagne Stakes (Gr 1, 8f) at Belmont in 2015, and a stud fee will be announced at a later date. “Greenpointcrusader was one of the best two-year-olds of his crop, as evidenced by fast wins against Saratoga maiden company and then the Grade One Champagne Stakes at Belmont,” said Ocala Stud’s J. Michael O’Farrell.

individual Group winners in Australia in 2016/17 were bred in Europe

by a nose under Pierre-Charles Boudot with another length and a quarter back to Looks A Million (Kyllachy) in third place.

The Richard Fahey-trained Darkanna (2 f Dark Angel - Jadanna by Mujadil) ran out a comfortable winner of the valuable Two-Year-Old Trophy (Listed, 6f) at Redcar on Saturday afternoon.

The filly was eased in class for the £175,000 sprint having previously finished fifth behind Clemmie (Galileo) in the Cheveley Park Stakes (Gr 1, 6f) at Newmarket just seven days earlier.

She was always travelling strongly under Barry McHugh and quickened clear inside the final furlong to beat Flying Sparkle (Fast Company) by half a length with another length and three quarters back to Foxtrot Lady (Foxwedge) in third.

The Aidan O’Brien-trained Bye Bye Baby

(2 f Galileo - Remember When by Danehill Dancer) ran out an impressive winner of the Staffordstown Stud Stakes (Listed, 1m) at Navan on Sunday.

The two-year-old filly, who is out of the Group One-placed mare Remember When (Danehill Dancer), defeated Coeur D’Amour (Zoffany) by two and a quarter lengths with Ballet Shoes (Galileo) a further length and a half behind in third.

At the same fixture, the Ger Lyons-trained Gobi Desert (2 c Oasis Dream - Household Name by Zamindar) held on bravely to win the Legacy Stakes (Listed, 6f).

The two-year-old made a winning debut at the Curragh in August, and he was able to get the better of Golden Spell (Al Kazeem) by half a length with Brick By Brick (Big Bad Bob) a further length behind in third.

| 13 |

The Freddy Head-trained Luminate (2 f Lawman - Kalandara by Rainbow Quest) continued her good form when she won the Prix De Conde (Gr 3, 1800m) at Chantilly at the weekend.

The two-year-old made a winning debut over 1600 metres at Deauville in August and was the only filly to line up in the Group Three on Saturday.

She proved a class above her five rivals, easing clear under Aurelien Lemaitre to post an impressive three-length success from Kingstar (Evasive), with King Of Camelot (Camelot) six lengths behind in third.

A half-sister to Luminate was purchased for 370,000 guineas by Godolphin at Book Two of the Tattersalls October Yearling Sale in Newmarket on Monday.

On the same afternoon at Chantilly, the Godolphin-raced Beau Ideal (2 c Exceed And Excel - Lay Time by Galileo) landed the Criterium De Vitesse (Listed, 1000m).

The Andre Fabre-trained two-year-old colt narrowly missed out on a stakes success on his most recent outing, finishing second in the Prix Saraca (Listed, 1300m) at Maisons-Laffitte on 11 September.

He managed to go one better at the weekend, defeating Absolute Cry (Elusive City)

The high-class Charlie Appleby-trained sprinter Blue Point (3 c Shamardal - Scarlett Rose by Royal Applause) held on well for pressure inside the final strides to win the Bengough Stakes (Gr 3, 6f) at Ascot on Saturday.

The colt, who was a Group Two winner as a juvenile and was a close third behind Caravaggio (Scat Daddy) in the Commonwealth Cup (Gr 1, 6f) at Royal Ascot in June, travelled strongly on the front-end under William Buick and opened up a break on his rivals with a smart turn of foot approaching the final two furlongs.

He began to tire on the good to soft ground in the closing stages but had enough in hand to fend off the late challenge of Projection (Acclamation) by half a length, with Magical Memory (Zebedee) a further three and a quarter lengths behind in third place.

Blue Point now looks set to clash with Caravaggio and Harry Angel (Dark Angel) in the British Champions Sprint Stakes (Gr 1, 6f) at Ascot on Saturday week.

Later on the same card, the William Haggas-trained One Master (3 f Fastnet Rock - Enticing by Pivotal) ran out an impressive winner of the October Stakes (Listed, 7f).

The lightly raced three-year-old filly came into the race having broken her maiden at her last start at Yarmouth, and she could be spotted travelling strongly towards the rear of the field in the hands of Martin Harley.

She was delivered with a strong challenge

approaching the final furlong and quickly put the race to bed, beating the smart Bletchley (Makfi) by a length and a quarter with another three quarters of a length back to the favourite Eternally (Dutch Art) in third.

The previous day at Ascot, the Brian Meehan-trained Raheen House (3 c Sea The Stars - Jumooh by Monsun) was handed the Noel Murless Stakes (Listed, 1m6f) in the stewards room having originally finished second under Jamie Spencer.

The three-year-old, who won the Bahrain Trophy (Gr 3, 1m5f) at Newmarket in July, looked to be delivering a winning run inside the final furlong when he was bumped by the first past the post Weekender (Frankel).

The winning distance at the line was a nose, with Hochfeld (Cape Cross) back in third, and the stewards found in favour of Raheen House following an enquiry.

In Munich on Sunday, the Godolphin-raced and Henri-Alex Pantall-trained Wild Bud (3 f Dubawi - Wild Wind by Danehill Dancer) took out the Bayerischer Sprint Cup (Listed, 1000m).

The regally-bred filly, who is from the same family as Group One winner Rumplestiltskin (Danehill), the dam of Group One winner Tapestry (Galileo), beat Princess Asta (Canford Cliffs) by three quarters of a length with another half a length back to Daring Match (Call Me Big) in third.

The Richard Hannon-trained Danehill Kodiac (4 c Kodiac - Meadow by Green Desert) ran out a game winner of the Cumberland Lodge Stakes (Gr 3, 1m4f) at Ascot on Saturday afternoon.

The four-year-old has progressed well through the handicap ranks in Britain this season, and he was allowed to dictate steady fractions on the front-end under jockey Sean Levey.

His jockey began to increase the tempo approaching the home straight, and though

the strong-travelling French raider Waldgeist (Galileo) loomed up with a strong challenge inside the final furlong, Danehill Kodiac lifted close home to score by a neck.

The Saeed Bin Suroor-trained Secret Number (Raven’s Pass), who won the Group Three race last season, was back in third.

The Ron Harris-trained Just Glamorous (4 g Arcano - Glamorous Air by Air Express) came roading back to form when making all the running in the Rous Stakes (Listed, 5f) at Ascot on Saturday.

The four-year-old gelding, who won the Prix du Petit Couvert (Gr 3, 1000m) in 2016, had recently undergone a breathing operation and was allowed to bowl along in the lead under Oisin Murphy.

He was challenged by Sir Robert Cheval (Green Desert) in the closing stages but found plenty to win by three quarters of a length, with short-priced favourite Waady (Approve) a further neck adrift in third.

The consistent Jallota (6 g Rock Of Gibraltar - Lady Lahar by Fraam) put in an impressive performance to win the Guisborough Stakes (Listed, 7f) at Redcar on Saturday.

The Charlie Hills-trained six-year-old had not won since he took out the Prix du Pin (Gr 3, 1400m) at Chantilly in September 2016 but he took full advantage when dropped into Listed company at the weekend.

He stretched clear under Dane O’Neill inside the final furlong to beat Von Blucher (Zoffany) by a decisive four and a half lengths with just a nose back to Lahore (Elusive Quality) in third.

The Michael Grassick-trained Texas Rock (6 g Rock of Gibraltar - Vestavia by Alhaarth) ran out a surprise winner of the Waterford Testimonial Stakes (Listed, 6f) at Navan on Sunday.

The result provided the gelding with a second career stakes victory, and he showed plenty of resolve to beat the progressive Son Of Rest (Pivotal) by a neck, with another half a length back to Maarek (Pivotal) in third.

Expert viewThe Racing Post’s top tipster Paul Kealy

gives his view on Nakeeta’s chances in Australia

Really tough stayer, who has been a bit of a fairytale for connections. Started handicapping career as a three-year-old rated just 67, but was on 80 at the start of his four-year-old campaign, 93 a year later and began this term on a career high of 103 following a half-length second to Golden Spear in the Irish November Handicap (run in October!) No show in Chester Cup on 2017 return was forgivable given average draw and he soon continued his improvement, running second in Listed company at York and then fourth under a big weight in a handicap at Newmarket. Best was yet to come, though, as he came with a withering late run to get up close home in the Ebor Handicap at York, a race last year's Melbourne Cup second Heartbreak City also won. Will always need a bit of luck in running (only five wins in 31 starts), but strong traveller who finishes strongly and may not have finished improving yet.

Nakeeta (GB)2011 Bay Gelding

OverviewThe Iain Jardine-trained Nakeeta (Sixties

Icon) flies out to Australia today for a tilt in the Melbourne Cup at Flemington on 7 November.

The son of Sixties Icon (Galileo) has won five of his 31 career starts, including his last start victory in the valuable Ebor Handicap (1m6f) at York, amassing career earnings of £319,901.

Nakeeta began his career with his breeder, trainer Mick Channon, and after five unsuccessful starts for Channon he was purchased by Alex and Janet Card and moved to Scottish trainer Iain Jardine.

He broke his maiden on his second start for Jardine in July 2014 when he won over a mile and quarter at Pontefract, following up this victory two starts later at Hamilton.

The gelding did not return to the winners’ enclosure until September 2015, when he took out the Old Borough Cup (1m6f) at Haydock. He followed up this victory over course and distance three weeks later.

Despite not winning during his five-year-old season, Nakeeta posted some consistent results in some valuable handicaps including finishing second in the Brown Jack Stakes (2m) at Ascot and he occupied that same position in both the Fine Equinity Stakes (2m½f) at York in August and the November Handicap (1m7f) at Leopardstown.

This season he finished second first-up in the Grand Cup (Listed, 1m6f) at York and was most recently seen winning the Ebor Handicap, the same race the ill-fated Heartbreak City (Lando) won before he finished second to Almandin (Monsun) in last season’s Melbourne Cup.

Nakeeta is out of the unraced mare Easy Red (Hunting Lion) making him a brother to two winners, while Easy Red herself is a half-sister to nine time winner Sendintank (Halling). Further back this is same family was Group One winner Shafaraz (Levmoss).

Winx (Street Cry) returned a Timeform rating of 133+ in winning Saturday’s Turnbull Stakes (Gr 1, 2000m) at

Flemington, confirming that in the spring of 2017 she is as good as she has ever been - perhaps even better, writes Adam Blencowe and Alex Steedman.

That she had never raced at Flemington mattered little as Winx left her rivals in her wake as she raced away to score effortlessly by six and a half lengths from European import Ventura Storm (Zoffany) [118] with Humidor (Teofilo) [122] three quarters of a length further back in third.

The victory was Winx’s 21st in succession, her 13th Group One which took her prize money to $13,777,925 as she now chases her third successive Cox Plate (Gr 1, 2040m) victory at Moonee Valley on 28 October.

Winx’s rating of 133+ equalled her 133p figure taken in winning last year’s Cox Plate and was clearly above her 126p-rated victory she recorded when winning that race in 2015.

As she now heads towards her main mission this preparation, Winx looks primed to take a new peak Timeform rating in the 2017 Cox Plate with Saturday’s triumph being only one pound under her current peak of 134 taken in winning the George Ryder Stakes (Gr 1, 1500m) in March.

Her 133+ rating in the Turnbull Stakes was also well above the last five year’s winning average for the race of 125 and five pounds superior to the top rated winner in that period, Hartnell (Authorized) [128] in 2016.

Winx was having her fourth run this preparation and while she had looked in trouble more than once in her three lead up races in Sydney, it was far from the case on Saturday.

Her season peak of 133+ joins fourth-up ratings of 128, 133 and 130+ from her preceding three campaigns but the question that may fairly be asked is 'what is she beating?

The Turnbull Stakes clocked 2:02.07 for

the 2000 metres with a strong closing speed with the runner-up, the Lindsay Park-trained import Ventura Storm being a legitimate Cups contender who looks to have settled into Australia really well.

Ventura Storm is a Group One winner in Italy, having won the 2016 Premio Jockey Club (Gr 1, 2414m) in Milan, and he returned a rating of 118, one pound under his 119 peak taken when trained in the UK by Richard Hannon.

While another key runner behind Winx was the third-placed Humidor, an impressive 126-rated winner of the Makybe Diva Stakes (Gr 1, 1600m) at his prior start at Flemington on 16 September.

Humidor was inclined to hang in the straight on Saturday, and while below his best, he still rated 122 and there is no reason to think that his 126 peak is still within reach when he tackles the Caulfield Cup (Gr 1, 2400m) on Saturday week.

But the expected highlight of the spring is the seemingly unstoppable Winx as she chases her third Cox Plate the following week.

The 136-rated Black Caviar (Bel Esprit) is

the best horse to step onto Flemington in the modern era, judged on Timeform ratings, but Winx can claim to be as good as any of the others including some the biggest names in Australian racing, Might And Power (Zabeel) [133], So You Think (High Chaparral) [133] and Makybe Diva (Desert King) [129].

Further to that, Winx's versatility will have many consider her at least the equal of Black Caviar, who sits alongside the best mares that Timeform have rated.

Of course, Black Caviar's preferred trip was 1000 metres to 1200 metres, having won once at 1400 metres but not beyond in her unbeaten 25-start career while Winx has won from 1100 metres to 2200 metres with her ideal distance being 2000 metres.

And Winx currently has a superstar waiting overseas for a possible UK clash next year in the shape of Enable (Nathaniel), the superstar John Gosden-trained filly from Newmarket who currently holds the same 134 master rating as Winx.

Enable is the winner of her last six starts this season – and she has excelled at one and a half miles with victories including The Oaks

Winx’s 133+ Turnbull Stakes rating shows she is better than ever

(Gr 1, 1m4f) at Epsom and the Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe (Gr 1, 2400m) at Chantilly.

Outside of the action at Flemington on Saturday, the David Payne-trained colt Ace High (High Chaparral) [115] staged a solid staying effort in taking out the Spring Champion Stakes (Gr 1, 2000m) at Randwick.

Ace High, the all-the-way winner of the Gloaming Stakes (Gr 3, 1800m) at his prior start, again led before fighting back very gamely to score by a short head from Tangled (Snitzel) [115] with Sully (Reliable Man) [111]

a late-closing third, a length and a half further back.

His Timeform rating of 115 was a pound superior to his 114-rated Gloaming Stakes success but was one pound below the 116 prior five year winning rating of the Spring Champion Stakes.

It should be pointed out, however, that the ratings over that period has been bolstered due to strong performances by Dundeel (High Chaparral) [122] in 2012, Complacent (Authorized) [122] in 2013 and Hampton Court

(Redoute’s Choice) [120] in 2014. Ace High now heads to Melbourne for

the next Group One this spring for the staying three-year-olds, the Victoria Derby (Gr 1, 2500m) at Flemington on 4 November, seeking a double that has been rarely achieved.

Monaco Consul (High Chaparral) in 2009 was the last of only three horses to claim the Spring Champion Stakes – Victoria Derby double with Nothin’ Leica Dane (Danehill) in 1995 and Stylish Century (Double Century) 1989 being the others.

Leicester City may be teetering above the relegation zone at this early stage of the football season, but having proved a major force

on the sales circuit this year the club's owner, Vichai Srivaddhanaprabha, looks determined to gain promotion to racing's Premier League.

A strong session of Book Two of the Tattersalls October Yearling Sale on Tuesday was headed by one of Srivaddhanaprabha's acquisitions, after the Thailand-born businessman parted with 500,000 guineas for an Exceed And Excel (Danehill) half-sister to the progressive Beat The Bank (Paco Boy).

Richard Brown - acting on behalf of Alastair Donald - was entrusted with striking the winning bid, and he duly saw off David Redvers at 500,000 guineas, the highest price paid for a filly at Book two, who was catalogued Lot 927.

The daughter of Darley shuttler Exceed And Excel is out of the Listed-placed Diktat (Warning) mare Tiana, and was offered by Rosyground Stud on behalf of Fiona Denniff's Denniff Farms.

"I bred her dam, sold her as a yearling and then bought her back when she was in foal to Bahamian Bounty," said Denniff, who has a number of members of this family including the dam of smart sprinter Kachy. "I loved this

filly, even before Beat The Bank came along. The vibes were good going in. She'd been very popular - she was hardly ever in her box during the first couple of days of showing."

Deniff has entered Tiana's filly foal by Haunui Farm-shuttler Showcasing (Oasis Dream) in the December Foal Sale, and described her as "a 'very similar type" to the Exceed And Excel filly. Tiana is in foal to Shadwell's Muhaarar (Oasis Dream).

The enthusiasm for bloodstock displayed by Srivaddhanaprabha - who races under the King Power Racing banner - has doubtless been fueled by Beat The Bank, a son of Paco Boy (Desert Style) who has gone unbeaten since transferring into King Power colours in July, including in a five-length success in the Joel Stakes (Gr 2, 1m) on his latest outing. The three-year-old is around a 5-1 shot for the Queen Elizabeth II Stakes (Gr 1, 1m) on Champions Day.

Plenty of familiar faces followed Yeomanstown Stud's racy Dark Angel (Acclamation) filly out of Warshah (Shamardal) into the ring, but they all had to give best to Blandford Bloodstock's Tom Goff, who was standing with MV Magnier, after a bid of 400,000 guineas.

Catalogued as Lot 969, the filly is a sister to two winners, Volition and Al Hajar, both of whom also fetched six-figure sums: 300,000 guineas and 220,000 guineas respectively. Al Hajar also brought a big update to the page having broken his maiden by seven lengths less than two weeks earlier.

"She's a lovely filly who is a homebred from a very good farm," said Goff. "She's out of a Shamardal mare whose two-year-old looks good and it's a great, fast family. The dream is that she could make up into a Queen Mary Stakes filly."

Yeomantown's David O'Callaghan's involvement with Warshah, a Shamardal (Giant’s Causeway) half-sister to Prix de l'Opera (Gr 1, 2000m) winner Kinnaird (Dr Devious),

James Thomas of the Racing Post @anz_news

Excel filly Exceeds record price during strong session at Book Two

stretches back as far as 2008, when he bought her as a foal for just 30,000 guineas before selling her onto Shadwell as a yearling for €90,000.

"I actually pinhooked the mare and then bought her back from Shadwell," said O'Callaghan. "Not long after that Mickdaam broke his maiden and the pedigree has just come alive since then with Berkshire, Abdon, Ivawood, Shifting Power, all these horses jumped in there. Timing is everything. She's got a Dark Angel filly foal at foot and is in foal to Gutaifan."

Eddie Irwin's Marlhill House Stud had a red letter day at last month's Goffs Orby Sale when selling the auction-topping Frankel (Galileo) colt bought by Justin Casse for Zayat Stables for €1,600,000, and the operation landed another significant touch when John and Jake Warren paid 380,000 guineas for its Australia (Galileo) colt out of Thai Haku (Oasis Dream) on Tuesday, who was catalogued as Lot 918.

"He's an absolute belter, out of a stakes-winning mare and from a top farm," said Jake Warren, who added the colt would be likely to race in Europe. "We're big fans of the stallion and have bought a number by him already this year."

The colt, from the further family of top-level winners Hernando (Niniski) and Johann Quatz (Sadler’s Wells), was bred by Irwin's Rockhart Trading and the China Horse Club, after the pairing signed for Thai Haku, a Listed-winning daughter of Oasis Dream (Green Desert) and sister to Listed winner Albaraah, at 650,000 guineas through Eaton Sales in 2012. She also has an Australia colt foal on the ground and is in foal to Lope De Vega (Shamardal).

"He's a great moving colt who has always been very straightforward," said Brian McConnon, manager of Marlhill House Stud. "He's a big, scopey colt and we just wanted to give him the time to come together.

"We've had three Australias this year and have done well with all of them - we had a very nice colt at Arqana that made €130,000. Sons of Galileo seem to be doing well at stud so you'd have to be hopeful."

There has been a distinct buzz about the yearlings from the first crop of Lanwades Stud's Sea The Moon (Sea The Stars) across the sales this year, as highlighted by Godolphin's

purchase of a colt from Gestüt Görlsdorf for €460,000 at BBAG. Sheikh Mohammed's outfit secured another son of the runaway German Derby (Gr 1, 2400m) winner, paying 300,000 guineas for the colt out of Soviet Terms (Soviet Star) from Genesis Green Stud.

"I bought the mare here for 5,000 guineas - and she was practically blind," explained stud manager Michael Swinburn. "She had detached her retinas, and I think she has around a quarter vision in one eye. It doesn't seem to bother her at all though.

"This colt has always been lovely and just had a small issue which stopped him coming here as a foal. All that cleared up and he developed into a lovely horse."

Soviet Terms has produced four winners from five runners, and is a half-sister to champion two-year-old Best Terms.

Godolphin bought three more high-profile lots, headed by a Zebedee (Invincible Spirit) colt from Croom House Stud for 330,000 guineas whose family traces back to the likes of Nannina (Medicean), who was catalogued as Lot 949.

They also secured a Kodiac (Danehill) colt from Rathbarry Stud, who was pinhooked for €110,000.

"He was a fabulous colt and has been fabulous all the way through," said Rathbarry's Frannie Woods. "The moment we saw him as a foal we liked him. He's very typical of the sire, whose record speaks for itself. We bought him off Clodagh McStay, so he came off a good farm, and she had confidence in him, which gave us confidence. He's always been a simple, straightforward colt."

The colt, who was catalogued as Lot 80, is out of Romie's Kastett (Halling), a sister to Norse Dancer, and a half-brother to three winners.

Lope De Vega has enjoyed a hot spell of late, having supplied recent top-level winners Santa Ana Lane and Capla Temptress as well as the top lot in Monday's session of Book Two. The Ballylinch Stud resident saw another of his daughters bring a big price in the Park Paddocks ring on Tuesday when Juddmonte Farms went to 230,000 guineas for a filly from Stauffenberg Bloodstock.

The filly, already named Sailing, boasts a strong pedigree, being out of a Sadler's Wells (Northern Dancer) sister to the Listed winners Ferimon and Rave Reviews, while Group One winners Groom Dancer (Blushing Groom) and Plumania (Anabaa) appear further down the

page. However, Juddmonte's Lord Grimthorpe explained her family wasn't the only thing that drew the team to her.

"We've principally been trying to buy racehorses this year," he said. "This filly came into a good category as she's strong and looks like she might run at two, and obviously has a bit of Sadler's Wells there on what is a very good page. She also has the most lovely long ears, which we like at the moment!"

Day two of Book Two posted yet another strong set of results, with 203 yearlings changing hands for turnover of 15,197,000 guineas - a 15 per cent year-on-year gain.

The average stood at 74,862 guineas - a 12 per cent rise - and a median of 60,000 guineas - up 20 per cent on the 2016 figure. The clearance rate was 85 per cent.

Analysis: After winning two recent barrier trials at this track, Godolphin-raced colt Isaurian staged a really good effort in winning here on debut. He was smartly away, eased to race in second place and then moved up to join the leader (Eleazar), went to the front at the 200m and then went on to win easily. The Chris Waller-trained colt Enfield Opp raced in last place in the five-horse field and caught the eye, running on late to take second in a promising debut.
