“Z WINE WINS ‘WINE OF PROVENANCE’ TROPHY”

Z WINE HAS WON THE ’Wine Of Provenance’ TROPHY FOR THE

2006, 2008 & 2013 JULIUS Barossa Valley Shiraz at the 2016

Cairns wine show.

The ‘Wine of Provenance’ trophy, sponsored by The Conservatory Wine Bar in Cairns, requires

exhibitors to enter three vintages of the same wine, stating vineyard location. This award seeks to

recognise producers who rely on a particular vineyard and the flavour of that location.

The wines entered included our very first release [2006] along with our [2008] and the latest

release [2013] Julius Barossa Valley Shiraz. The small parcel of fruit is sourced from Kristen and

Janelle's father Robert and brother Jordan Zerk’s vineyard in Lyndoch. The wine is called Julius,

and is named after Kristen’s son Keevan Julius, who takes his name from the late Grandpa Hedley

‘Pete’ Julius Zerk who would have been the proudest to be told of this achievement!

Chair of Show and Judge Mr. Andrew Corrigan MW commented “Delicious polished set with

consistent style across the three wines. The 2006 is in great condition.”

This is an exciting award for our boutique ‘5 STAR James Halliday Rated Winery’, as we now join

respected past winners of this prestigious award including McGuigan Shortlist Riesling &

Wyndham Estate Black Cluster Hunter Valley Shiraz.

“I am so fortunate to be a fifth generation Barossan and work with an amazing spread of

vintages in the last decade, which is overwhelmingly reflected through this award. Shiraz sourced

from this vineyard has always been a stand out and my personal favourite. I feel honoured with

this recognition as it instills my passion and dedication to quality, not only to this vineyard but all

the other brilliant vignerons I work with in this great region” Winemaker Janelle Zerk commented.

The 2006 is perfectly aged showing stewed plum and Christmas spice complexity with smooth

coffee and dark chocolate finish. The 2008 is rich and brooding with red fruits, star anise, cocoa

and earthy characters. The 2013 is still youthful showing classic rich Barossa characters of

raspberry, licorice and dark chocolate with black pepper notes.
