About CPY Our story

Our Story:When a serious climbing accident left him with six permanent screws in his shattered ankle, CorePower Yoga Founder and CEO Trevor Tice experienced first hand the transformational benefits of yoga. An avid outdoorsman from Telluride, CO, Trevor was left searching for an exercise to replace the running, climbing and other physically challenging activities no longer accessible to him. He found yoga, and was hooked.

Traveling for his technology business, Trevor practiced a variety of yoga disciplines at yoga studios across the country and found an opportunity to make yoga dynamic, challenging and accessible. In 2002, Trevor opened the first CorePower Yoga studio on Grant Street in downtown Denver, Colorado, offering a proprietary form of athletic, heated yoga in modern, welcoming and spa-like studios. With six teachers, including Trevor, teaching four classes per day, it took several arduous months before classes began to fill up. But they did. And it wasn’t long before people were talking about this new Yoga.

Our Mission: Share our authentic passion for yoga and healthy living to inspire everyone to live their most extraordinary life.

Key Milestones:2004: CorePower Yoga acquires South Boulder, Cherry Hills and Broadway studios in Colorado. Tim Johnson and Brandon Cox become part-owners.

2004: First CPY Power Yoga Teacher Training held at the Grant Street studio in Denver with nearly 30 participants. Some of these first Teacher Training graduates are regional managers and studio managers today.

2005: With a few established studios in Colorado, CPY acquired its first Portland Studio (Portland Northwest) and opened its first studio in Minneapolis.

2006: CorePower Yoga – Point Loma opens in San Diego, CA

2007: CorePower Yoga introduced The Nutrition Program in Denver, providing yoga students with a supportive yogic cleanse and the tools to understand how eating habits can fuel their yoga and their life.

2008: CorePower Yoga - South Loop, Chicago, opens.

2009: CPY continued to expand its Teacher Training and Lifestyle Program offerings.

2010: Chicago and California opened 3 new studios, with Minnesota, Boulder & Denver each adding one. CorePower Yoga also made its debut in LA with the Sherman Oaks Studio

2011: CPY opened its first Bay Area studio in Berkeley, in addition to three studios in San Diego, two studios in L.A., one in Orange County, and two in Chicago.

About CPYOur Management Team

Who is CPY?Every CorePower Yoga employee is passionate about health, vitality and about the mind-body connection created by the CPY practice. We are passionate about being part of a health-focused company where individuals are not bound by conventional ideas of body and mind.

All of our studio managers started as CPY students who completed the Teacher Training Program and were inspired to become more invested in the business. All regional managers were once studio managers. And our corporate team is comprised of dedicated yoga practitioners and yoga teachers.

Key people who help make it all come together:

Trevor Tice, Founder & CEO

An unlikely candidate for owning yoga studios, Trevor opened the first CorePower Yoga in Denver in 2002, and filled a niche in an emerging yoga market. His goal? To create an empowering and health-focused environment where individuals are not bound by conventional ideas about the limits of body and mind.

Prior to CorePower Yoga, Trevor owned TechPartners International, a $60 million dollar IT company he sold to a public UK firm in 2001. He received a degree in Business from the University of Colorado, and serves on the Board of Directors for MindBody Online and BridgeView IT. He is a member of the Young Presidents Organization and received the Ernst & Young Entrepreneur Of The Year® 2010 Award in the Retail & Consumer Products category in the Rocky Mountain region. In 2011, Trevor Tice and CorePower Yoga received the ACG Emerging Corporate Growth Award, an honor given to companies with annual sales lass than $100 million that have demonstrated steady growth for three consecutive years.

An avid believer in giving back, Trevor formed CorePower Cares, a nonprofit organization that leverages the generosity of the CPY community to support a myriad of philanthropic causes, most recently supporting the Japan relief effort. Trevor approaches challenges with “yes, we can – go do it”, encouraging all employees to explore new ideas. An avid yoga practitioner and teacher, he visits at least one CPY studio every day, providing positive feedback to instructors and managers.

Lisa Bloom, Director of Midwest & East Coast Operations

Lisa Bloom attended Colorado State University where she passionately studied dance and social work. After college, Lisa initiated a successful career as a social worker and delved into the challenging and fulfilling work of counseling disadvantaged youth in an after-school program. Most of the children she counseled lived in broken homes, suffered from abuse, or dealt with serious mental health issues. Lisa began to offer yoga sessions during the program, and the children responded very positively.

When the after-school program was cut due to budget constraints, Lisa naturally transitioned to teaching yoga at CorePower Yoga. Soon thereafter, she accepted a studio manager position in Denver. Eager to accept challenges and become more involved in the business, in July 2005 Lisa relocated to Minneapolis where she managed the sole CorePower Yoga studio in Minnesota.

Through creative vision and a strong work ethic as Regional Manager, Lisa has fostered the growth of CorePower Yoga’s expansion throughout Minnesota. Lisa is honored and thrilled to move into her role as Director of Midwest and East Coast Operations.

“CorePower Yoga Teacher Training really pulled me into the yoga community and introduced me to a new way of being. My personal practice was elevated as well as my approach to life. I was unsure if I would teach, but I have learned so much about my own potential that I want to share that with others.”

Hot Yoga Teacher Training

“I got so much more from Hot Yoga Teacher Training than I ever expected. My own practice grew and changed profoundly. I loved working microscopically through the poses and their adjustments, as well as learning the history of yoga, yogic principles and anatomy. It was intense and wonderful, an experience I am so grateful to have had.”

Yoga Sculpt Teacher Training

“Yoga Sculpt Teacher Training elevated my confidence in my teaching abilities to a new level and gave me the tools to create a great sculpt class. I think it is a great program for anyone who wants to laugh in a yoga room, get connected with their students and catch themselves dancing around every once in a while...”

FAQ’sFAQ’s

Can beginners attend CorePower Yoga classes? Yes. We welcome all levels and abilities. We recommend all beginners start with a CorePower Yoga Level One class. This Power Vinyasa class is unheated and allows the beginner to experience a common CorePower Yoga flow. We recommend a beginner take 5-10 CorePower Yoga Level One classes before moving on to other CorePower Yoga classes; however, we encourage you to listen to your body and move on when you feel ready.

Is CorePower Yoga a cardiovascular workout? The practice of moving with breath systematically flushes the internal organs of the body. In CorePower Yoga, the cardiovascular system becomes stimulated. Blood starts moving faster through the body and you are breathing deeply at the same time. This combination causes the blood to become oxygenated to aerobic levels.

Do you have to be flexible to practice yoga? No. “I can’t do yoga because I’m not flexible” is the number one misconception about yoga among non-practitioners. While starting a yoga practice can seem intimidating, yoga really is for everyone. You may not be flexible when you start, but practicing yoga will increase your flexibility. Yoga lengthens and expands our muscles and relieves toxins that build up from the repetitive motions we put our body through during other types of exercises and activities, such as running, lifting weights or playing sports. Yoga is the best counterbalance to these stresses from other areas of your life.
