01 Overview on PHS

During the last decade, hot sheet metal for-ming technology, better

known as press hardening or hot stamping, has certainly become all the more crucial in automotive body-in-white design, driven by a strong demand for further im-provement of energy efficiency and passenger safety. Today, hot stamping is undoubtedly a sustainable global technology. The expected surge in growth of this technology in part producti-on, material supply, production equipment etc., has recently en-couraged quite a few players to enter this highly specialized tech-nological scene. Competition has risen significantly and the ability to act globally has certainly be-come an existential challenge. However, it is clear to see that during these years, press harde-ning is an inevitably knowledge-driven technology. Without a proper understanding of the go-verning thermo-mechanical me-chanisms it is perhaps possible to

move along to the “low-end” of technology but impossible to re-ach the “high-end”. Due to this, there are some very promising opportunities for SME companies in reaching and/or maintaining their position at the “high-end” of

hot stamping technology and to share/benefit from the high level of added value. The acquisition of substantial knowledge, therefore, constitutes the main “key” to be successful in the aforementioned sense.

05 Training Provider

The GRUNDIG ACADEMY GROUP is one of the interna-tionally most renowned institutions in postgraduate trai-ning. The qualification on “Press Hardening” is interna-

tionally accredited and focused on the needs of each individual company. The specified seminars are aimed at combining practical experience, fundamentals and innovative technologies on the shop floor level.

GRUNDIG ACADEMY GROUP

All Gestamps further training sessions are based on the Intensive Training in Press Hardening, (IT) Module A, in Kassel Germany. Gestamp booked six IT-A, Heat Treatment and Hot Forming of Steel trainings for 2013. Four seminars have been alrea-dy conducted successfully and the following next two trainings will take place in CW43 and CW45.

The following trainings refer to repetition, expansion and improvement of knowledge and skills, learned during the IT-A training sessions.

Targets:Participants will develop a comprehensive under-standing of technology, particularly in relation to the complex interaction between process technology and product features in press hardening.

Shop Floor Trainings (SFT)The in-house, one day Shop Floor Trainings, ex-tracted from the Intensive Training Module A “He-at-Treatment and Hot Forming of Steel”, are aimed at groups of people responsible for operating the running PHS production line.● Module A (SFT-A): Line Driver / Operator

Training● Module B (SFT-B): Process Engineer Training

Targets:Basic understanding on various effects of adjustment of process parameters on relevant material proces-sing properties (e.g. tool life, roller pollution, etc.) and final product properties (e.g. surface properties, coating consistency, mechanical properties, etc.) will be gained. The participants will be sensitized to recognize and evaluate relevant product-quality indicators during the process and, therefore, to take proper decisions during PHS line operation.
