Common Action Forum is an international non-profit foundation based in Madrid, Spain, designed to establish independent platforms of cooperation, research, innovation and advisory in order to shape alternative solutions and empower global citizens to address socio-political issues and economic inequalities of our time. Presided over by Wadah Khanfar – the former Director General of Al Jazeera –, and working as a worldwide network, CAF advocates for the exchange of experiences and collective design of global strategies by bringing together prominent and emerging experts from diverse backgrounds including academia, politics, media, civil society and culture. To reach active solutions, we support dialogue, mediation, research and projects committed to justice and alternative frameworks positioned to deal with contemporary challenges. From November 3th to 5th 2017, intellectuals, politicians, academics, activists, members of civil society and journalists from all over the world met at Hotel Wellington in Madrid to celebrate CAF’s third annual forum: The Limits to Inequality: Seeking a Sustainable Society.
This year, the Forum’s theme approached increasing inequalities from the perspective of how citizens have been presented with new forms of control, accumulation, solidarity and freedom as a result of the advent of globalization and the information society. Given this context, forty top intellectuals, politicians, academics, artists, activists and journalists participated in the Common Action Forum 2017, seeking innovative proposals that policy makers, civil society, institutions and relevant actors can implement. Beyond the current dispute between cynicism and rancor, the Forum intended to lever progressive dynamics for sustainable relations.
