We have much to celebrate at Caldwell Community College and Technical Institute as this yearrsquos report includes a long list of remarkable achievements While these achievements vary from new programs and new services to student successes and facilities improvement the common thread is that none are possible without our partnerships with supporters like you

One monumental partnership that we believe will have a significant impact on local students is the Aspire Appalachian Co-Admission Agreement with Appalachian State University The agreement provides a seamless pathway and guaranteed admission for students who want to start at CCCampTI and complete their degree at App State

Another innovative and successful partnership is the new Hector Estepan CobraCare Clinic on the Caldwell Campus The clinic which opened in 2018 is the first of its kind on a community college campus in North Carolina and perhaps the nation The clinic provides a full range of convenient affordable healthcare and mental health services for students and employees

In much the same way continued partnerships with area employers industry leaders and local government have led to new program offerings an expansion and relocation of our Small Business Center to the HUB Station in Hudson and a new leadership development program to help 8th-graders experience the workplace and learn about local career opportunities

In an effort to continue and expand a rich tradition of excellence in athletics we have also added two new sports baseball and softball Wersquore excited to see these new student athletes as well as our existing basketball programs excel both in competition and in the classroom

These successes are possible because of the cooperative spirit that exists in our community Thank you for your continued support and for all you do to help our students and region we serve

Curriculum Graduation Caldwell Community College and Technical Institute honored 708 graduates from its Caldwell Campus in Hud-son and Watauga Campus in Boone during two ceremonies held May 10 2019 at the JE Broyhill Civic Center in Lenoir

The Class of 2019 included bull 708 total graduates including 306 first-generation college graduates bull Graduates ranging in age from 16 to 60 with an average age of 25 bull Eight Dream Scholars and bull 58 TRIOStudent Support Services graduates

CCCampTI Board of Trustees member Ann Smith presented this yearrsquos Trusteesrsquo Student Awards of Merit to Lance Rotting and Kimberly Baldrich during the ceremonies The awards are selected based on faculty nomina-tions for outstanding academic achievement extracurricular activities and community service

Presented by Vice President of Instruction Randy Ledford the Dr Donald Lackey Award for Excellence in Teaching was awarded to Aaron Cook Dean of Science Technology Engineering and Math Programs The award honors a faculty member who characterizes personal dedication concern for student welfare and aca-demic excellence

High School Equivalency Graduation The annual Adult High School and High School Equivalency graduation exercises were held on May 9 at the JE Broyhill Civic Center in Lenoir The ceremony honored 93 new graduates The class of 2019 included grad-uates from communities across Caldwell and Watauga counties and with ages ranging from 17 to 77

The recipient of the 2019 Distinguished Alumni Award was Mr Larry Simonds The award recognizes an alum-nus or alumnae of the GEDAHS program who epitomizes the philosophy that the Adult High School or High School Equivalency diploma is a new beginning and who has worked to achieve additional credentials a career with life sustaining wages and who is representative of what hard work persistence and motivation can achieve Simonds earned his high school equivalency degree in 2012 and went on to earn both an Associate in Applied Science in engineering technology and an Associate in Arts in General Education at CCCampTI Simonds joined CCCampTIrsquos Learning Resource Center (LRC) staff in 2014 Simonds serves as a technician maintaining the LRCrsquos computers and electronic equipment and serves as a liaison to the IT and Technology Departments on behalf of the library and has also been instrumental in helping bring the collegersquos Makerspace to fruition

Learning Resource Center CCCampTIrsquos Learning Resource Center on the Caldwell Campus had a busy year Door count was 147757 and more than 14000 items were circulated

The LRC also started the highly successful Grab-N-Go workshop series after being awarded a mini-grant to help cover expenses The sessions are offered each Wednes day and cover a variety of topics helpful for students in short 15 presentations The sessions also include lunch and other take-away items for students

Academic Support Center Director Erin Cooper completed her doctorate in education at Appalachian State University in 2018

Librarian Amber Jacks served as the district 6 Director of the North Carolina Community College Library Association for year with Library Technical Assistant Alicia Hartley serving as secretary


Spain Study Abroad A group of CCCampTI students and faculty members travelled to Spain in June 2019 for study abroad Students travelled from Charlotte to Barnotcelona and spent the majority of the trip walking Spainrsquos famed Camino Trail In all the travelers walked approximately 175 miles Students who participated earned a total of 4 credit hours in Human-ities and fitness

Academic Excellence Award Winner CCCampTI Nursing Program graduate Rachel Plott was chosen as the 2019 Academic Excellence Award winner Plott who lives in Fleet-wood with her husband and two children graduated in 2019 with an Associate Degree in Nursing At a May ceremony she was presented with the collegersquos Academic Excellence medallion and plaque one of 58 community college students statewide to receive the award

PTK Induction Ceremony In an October 2018 ceremony 27 Cald-well Community College and Technical Institute students were inducted into the Phi Theta Kappa International Honor Society for the Two Year College CCCampTIrsquos chapter of Phi Theta Kappa (PTK) called the Alpha Lambda Pi Chapter works to promote the intellec-tual atmosphere of CCCampTI Students can become eligible to join this exclu-sive honor society if they achieve and maintain at least a 35 grade-point-average in their college level courses


Students Meet with College President CCCampTI President Dr Mark Poarch had lunch meetings on both the Caldwell and Watauga campuses in the Fall 2018 semester to give students an opportunity to ask questions and talk about the issues Both events were well-attended Special thanks to the Student Government Association on the Caldwell and Watauga Cam-pus for hosting these events

Caldwell Youth Leadership Caldwell County Schools and CCCampTI worked together along with the Caldwell Chamber of Commerce to launch Caldwell Youth Leadership in 2018 The initiative selected 24 eighth graders for a leadership development pro-gram designed specifically for middle school students to experience the workplace first-hand and become more informed about career choices The group with three students selected from each middle school in the district visited businesses and learned about a variety of career opportunities including required education and qualifica-tions During a 5-month period the students visited a variety of companies including Blue Ridge Energy Aiken Controls Exela Pharma Sciences MDI UNC Healthcare and Fairfield Chair Company The group also visited CCCampTIrsquos campus for tours of various program offerings and information about how to train for local jobs

Science Olympiad Team The Science ClubCaldwell Early College High School Science Olympiad Team took first place in the regional competition in March 2019 and ad-vanced to the Science Olympiad State Champi-onship at NC State University in April where they finished 14th out of 350 teams from across the state


2018 Research Expo CCCampTI hosted the annual Research Expo in December 2018 on the Caldwell Campus Students submitted projects in three categories Posters of Original Research Informational Posters and Models Winners were named in each category and winning students received cash prizes There was also an appearance by Albert Einstein - who might have been President Dr Mark Poarch in a wig but were not sure

SkillsUSA Engineering Technologies students participated in the SkillsUSA Post-Secondary State Competition held in March in Greensboro NC All five teams placed in their divisions

CCCampTI also had two students from Automotive Sys-tems Technologies that placed in their respective cate-gories at the SkillsUSA North Carolina competition They were

CCCTI was recognized by SkillsUSA North Carolina as a Quality Chapter Award Winner for the year

Cooking Competition To wrap up the Fall Semester the Culinary Arts Pastry and Confections class had an Iron Chef-style competition for their final exam The teams received a list of unusual ingredients and had to create three dishes to impress the panel of judges The judges were scored on their creativity as well as the quality of their dishes The Foundation of CCCampTI provided prize money for the win ning team


Makerspace The Caldwell Campus Learnnoting Resource Center opened a new Maker-space in Fall 2018 The space includes several 3-D printers Raspberry Pi microcomputers a Retro Pi gaming console two sphero robots a laser engraver a portable public address system and more ndash all available to students and patrons for a variety of uses Staff can help demo equip-ment help students with class projects and offer instruction on how to use any manotchine in the space Some of the equipment is even available for students to check out and experiment with on their own In Spring 2019 the Makerspace started a Seed Exchange which was featured on the front page of the Lenoir News-Topic and later received a large seed donation from Wal-Mart

NSLS Induction Ceremony The National Society of Leadership and Success (NSLS) held an induc-tion ceremony for new members in May 2019 The event held in CCCampTIrsquos Caldwell Campus gym was the culmination of nearly a year of training and attending events for members During the ceremony several awards were presented Excellence in Service to Students awards were presented to instructors Jennifer Fisher Jimmie Griffith and Melinda Laws Excellence in Teaching awards were presented to Ronald Holste Jennifer Fisher and Renee Yount Honorary Member-ships were presented to Culinary Program Director Chef Keith An-dreasen and Media Director Amy Bowman

Finish Line Grant CCCampTI was awarded a Finish Line Grant to create an emergency as-sistance fund for students The grant program established by NC Gov Roy Cooper in mid-2018 was created to assist community col-lege students who face unforeseen financial hardships In its initial year more than $10000 in assistance was awarded to 27 Watauga Campus students to help with rent utilities medical and child care expenses car repairs and more

AFA Performing ArtistSeries The Associate in Fine Arts ndash Music program through its Performing Artist Series hosted 10 live music performances on campus and in the com-munity during the 2018-2019 academic year In addition to shows by the CCCampTI Chorus the se-ries featured the Lenoir-Rhyne College Singers Derek Gripper Firecracker Jazz Band Strictly Clean and Decent Appalachian Statersquos Trumpet Choir and the Warren Wilson Gamelan Ensemble

Branches Literary ArtsMagazine In Fall 2018 CCCampTI celebrated the release of the 22nd edition of Branches the colleges literary and arts magazine A slide show of art selections was led by visual arts instructors Laura Aultman and Tom Thieleman Several authors of written selec-tions were also on hand to read from their pub-lished pieces Artwork that was included in the publication was on display in the Caldwell Campus Library throughout the semester

Behind-the-Scenes with Culinary Arts The Watauga Campus Culinary Arts program con-tinued its successful Carry-Out Cuisine program and added a new opportunity for guests to get the full experience Beginning with the Fall 2018 series of meals diners could pay an extra $5 for Chefrsquos Table seating and a behind-the-scenes look at how their gourmet meal is prepared

International Visitors CCCampTI again hosted a group of students from Aarhus Business School in Denmark Visiting stu-dents met with CCCampTI faculty staff members and students and participated in several student activi-ties Their visit also included tours of both cam-puses the Lenoir Fire Station the Family Resource Center and some local employers The group also explored nearby attractions such as the Blue Ridge Parkway and Linville Gorge

Breast Cancer Awareness CCCampTIrsquos Chapter of Phi Theta Kappa hosted a Breast Cancer Awareness event in October 2018 in the Caldwell Campus Library Students faculty and staff gathered to make tokens and write messages of support for those affected by breast can cer The event also recognized Dr Mark Poarchs commitment to the American Cancer Societys Real Men Wear Pink campaign CCCampTI also hosted a Breast Cancer Awareness 5K Walk and Run on campus during the month of October


Compass Holiday Production Continuing a holiday tradition the Compass Pro-gram performed a free show for the community to kick off the 2018 Holiday season The students gave two performances of their version of Ralphies Fragile Christmas Story at the JE Broyhill Civic Center in Lenoir Admission to the event was free but many made donations to support the program

Spreading Good Cheer The Student Government Association hosted a holiday season food and cleaning supply drive on the Caldwell Campus By gathering donations from classes clubs and individual students the group was able to donate more than 200 pounds of cleaning supplies to the Lenoir Emergency Out-reach Shelter (LEOS) and 186 food items for Yoke-fellow of Caldwell County

Community CollegeRound Up Staff and faculty from CCCampTI Catawba Valley Community College and Western Piedmont Com-munity College gathered in Fall 2018 for the first Community College Round-up at Glenn Hilton Park in Hickory The event included time for some friendly competition and networking for employees from the three institutions The day included a pic-nic discussion of upcoming special events at each of the colleges and an afternoon of fun games Employees from each college competed in games such as cornhole Jenga water balloon toss trivia disc golf and rock-paper-scissors It was a great time and fun to meet colleagues from neighboring institutions The three institutions plan to make the Round Up an annual event

Watauga Campus Trunk or Treat CCCampTIrsquos Watauga Campus hosted its first ever Trunk-or-Treat com munity event in 2018 The event was well attended with more than 350 participants

Early Childhood FilmScreening Event The Early Childhood Education program along with Caldwell County SmartStart Burke County SmartStart and the Enola Group hosted a dinner and film screening event for the community in April 2019 at the JE Broyhill Civic Center The event featured a screening of the documentary ldquoRe-silience The Biology of Stress and The Science of Hoperdquo followed by a panel discussion The panel discussion featured Terri Chester Director of Stu-dent Support Services for Caldwell County Schools April Jacob from Robinrsquos Nest Childrenrsquos Advocacy Center Dorraine Hernandez Director of Burke County Department of Social Services Dr Donald Phipps Superintendent of Caldwell County Schools and Dr Holli Sink with South Mountain Childrenrsquos Home in Morganton

Creepy Caldwell 2 CCCampTIrsquos Student Government Association hosted the Creepy Caldwell 2 Festival and Trail in October 2018 The festival featured a Trunk-or-Treat Story Time Tent music and food vendors More than 700 children visited the campus for the festival events The Creepy Caldwell Trail show-cased the creativity of both students and em-ployee volunteers providing a scary and fun experience The event was a successful fundraiser for campus clubs

Super Summer CampCCCampTI offered a total of 15 different Super Sum-mer Camp experiences for children nine on the Caldwell Campus and six on the Watauga Cam-pus A total of 151 children were served


Basketball Teams Host First Fan Fest CCCampTIs Mens and Womens Basketball teams hosted the first ever Cobra Fan Fest in October 2018 on the Caldwell Campus Student athletes were introduced and participated in a 3-point shoot out a dunking contest and scrimmage games Several fans also attempted a half-court shot to win a Cobra t-shirt The event was a great way to start the season for both teams and has become an annual event


Writers Symposium Features LocalAuthor Doc Hendley Doc Hendley author of ldquoWine To Water How One Man Saved Himself While Trying to Save the Worldrdquo was featured in the 2019 Laurette LePre-vost Writers Symposium The college hosted reading and discussion ses-sions with Hendley on both campuses and at the Broyhill Civic Center for students and the community Hendley and his organization Wine to Water are based in Boone

Autism Awareness Event The Caldwell Campus Library hosted an autism awareness event on World Autism Awareness Day which is April 2 Student Tyler Curley shared about life on the autism spectrum Attendees also helped color a banner to be displayed in the library to promote autism awareness

Light Up the Library In April Phi Theta Kappa hosted a ldquoLight up the Libraryrdquo event on the Caldwell Campus and invited students employees and community mem-bers to create luminaries for Relay for Life Participants made monetary donations or donated canned food to support the American Cancer Soci-ety and were encouraged to show their support by creating beautiful trib-utes to loved ones battling cancer

JE Broyhill Civic Center CCCampTIrsquos JE Broyhill Civic Center hosted a total of 1003 events during the 2018-2019 year and served more than 113000 patrons The Civic Center pre sented 9 Showcase of Stars events and partnered with in-house production company Foothills Perform ing Arts to present 4 stage shows The Civic Center also hosted five dance competitions The Civic Center partnered with Caldwell County Schools and the Caldwell Arts Council to host 9 Artists-In-Schools shows for Caldwell County School students Caldwell County Chamber of Commerce partnered with the Civic Center for 15 Chamber events


TRIOStudent Support Services TRIOStudent Support Services remained active throughout the 2018-2019 academic year The group hosted 8 TRIO Deli events led several donation drives and service learning projects for local non-profit organizations and did several fundraising projects to assist students

TRIO Students also took several field trips during the year including trips to Duke University Appalachian State University UNC-Chapel Hill Western Carolina University The Biltmore House Barter Theatre in Virginia NC Outer Banks Tiger World Salisbury NC

Financial Aid Awareness CCCampTIrsquos Financial Aid Department hosted more than 25 financial aidfinancial awareness activities on and off campus during the 2018-2019 academic year Staff members presented to students in ACA classes and pro-vided web-based activities for online learners

Financial Aid also hosted the Regional Veteranrsquos Affairs All Schools Meeting in October 2018 at the JE Broyhill Civic Center in Lenoir Veteranrsquos Benefits Administrators from across North Carolina attended to gain new or ad-ditional skills to assist veteran students in their pursuit of higher education

Website Redesign A new design for the college website debuted at the benotginning of the Fall 2018 Semester The Webmaster and the Marketing and Communications Department undertook the proj-ect with several goals in mind The new design enhances the websitersquos functionality across all platforms and makes our informanottion easier to ac-cess for students employees and the community The new design allows users to easily find information re-gardless of the device theyrsquore using The new design leans heavily on scrolling rather than clicking and information is streamlined into fewer pages and links The design is also responsive to various screen sizes which means it can maintain the integrity of design elements on any size screen - from a smartphone to a wide-screen monitor

CCCampTI Hosts NC Mathematical Association of Two Year Colleges Conference The Caldwell Campus hosted the 2019 NCMATYC (NC Mathematnotical Association of Two Year Colleges) Conference in March 2019 The conference brought more than 200 visitors from across the state


STRATEGIC PARTNERSHIPS CCCampTI Appalachian State University announce Aspire Appalachian Co-Admission Program Agreement Leadership from CCCampTI and Appalachian State University announced in January 2019 a new co-admission agreement that creates a seamless pathway for students who want to start at CCCampTI and complete their degree at App State The Aspire Appalachian Co-Admission Program provided students who complete a two-year associate degree at CCCampTI with a 225 GPA or higher with guaranteed admission to App State to finish their undergraduate degree Joined by App State Chancellor Dr Sheri Everts for the signing ceremony on Appalachianrsquos campus on Dec 12 CCCampTI President Dr Mark Poarch described the agreement as ldquomonumentalrdquo

CCCampTI Announces Music Program Transfer Agreement With UNC-Charlotte In Spring 2019 CCCampTI and the University of North Carolina at Charlotte (UNC-Charlotte) signed a new bi-lateral articulation agreement that allows students who complete the 2-year Associate in Fine Arts in Music degree at CCCampTI to transfer their credits to complete one of several music bachelorrsquos degrees at UNC-Charlotte The agreement took affect with the Fall 2019 semester


CCCampTI West Caldwell Health Council Partner to Create Unique Campus Clinic CCCampTI and West Caldwell Health Coun-cil Inc (WCHC) partnered together to open the Hector Estepan CobraCare Clinic on the CCCampTI campus in Hudson in August 2018 believed to be the only medical clinic on a North Carolina com-munity college campus The clinic offers a wide range of services including physi-cals preventative care immuninotzations behavioral health minor office procedures and chronic disease management Unin-sured patients may apply for a sliding dis-count scale based on their income level The clinic also waives co-pay fees for Pell Grant financial aid recipients

Cannon Charitable Grants In early 2019 Cannon Charitable Interests awarded two $100000 grants in support of the development of a Centralized Advanced Manufacturing Center on the Caldwell Campus in Hudson The Centralized Ad-vanced Manufacturing Center project will provide a state-of-the-art simulated work environment designed to provide students with direct pathways to high-paying career opportunities

CCCampTI Furniture Industry Partners Unveil New Furniture Factory Lab The new Furniture Factory Lab a new space that came about through various partnerships with private in-dustry was launched in April 2019 The Furniture Factory Lab is an innovative workforce program that will prepare students for the next generation of furniture manunotfacturing by offering training in state-of-the-art technolonotgy and processes in cutting room automation sewing and upholstery The new training space as well as the expansion of the collegersquos Furniture Technolonotgy Institute was made possible by help from in-ternational furniture technology and machinery provider Lectra which donated a machine for the new lab and local manu-facturers Bernhardt Fairfield Chair and McCreary Modern who helped design and plan the space The space is designed to simulate a factory environment and housed the collegersquos Furniture Tech-nology Institute which includes the Upholstery and Industrial Sewing training programs


Guckenheimer Event Representatives from Guckenheimer a leading corporate food service company visited the Caldwell Cam-pus in April 2019 to talk with our Culinary Arts students about job opportunities Their presentation also in-cluded a food demonstration and discussion of sustainability practices and local sourcing

New Small Business Center Office at HUB Station CCCampTIrsquos Small Business Center office was relocated to HUB Station (145 Cedar Valley Road) in Hudson in early 2019 The expanded SBC features affordable incubation space with a variety shared and private work areas both large and small as well as Internet access utilities and restroom facilities provided The Busi-ness Incubator also features a state-of-the-art workspace with access to computers printers boardroom podcast studio space and virtual reality technology Plus entrepreneurs will have the resources of the SBC only steps away


Blue Ridge Supports Lineman Program Blue Ridge Energy and its community foundation Blue Ridge Electric Members Foundation made a $150000 donation to help fund a new Electrical Lineman Training Facility The new training facility will be lo-cated off Roy Coffey Drive adjacent to the current pole yard and will provide the ability to expand the pro-gramrsquos enrollment capacity and produce more graduates to meet industry workforce needs

Hired Education In July 2019 teachers and administrators from Cald-well County Schools visited the Caldwell Campus The group toured health sciences and workforce training areas and heard reports from President Dr Mark Poarch Vice President of Instruction Randy Ledford and Economic Development Commission (EDC) Di-rector Deborah Murray as part of the EDCs Hired Ed-ucation program The initiative seeks to inform local teachers and school administrators about career and training opportunities in Caldwell County

Leadership Caldwell 2019 Education Day for Leadership Caldwell took place in May 2019 and included a half-day visit to CCCampTIs Caldwell Campus in Hudson In addition to lunch the group heard from CCCampTI President Dr Mark Poarch and Caldwell County Schools Superintendent Dr Don Phipps The group also toured several areas of the college including Career Connections the Furniture Factory Lab the Electrical Lineman Pole Yard Truck Driver Training and the Engineering Lab

NCCCS President Peter Hans Visits NC Community College System President Peter Hans visited the Caldwell Campus in May 2019 for a tour In addition to visit ing several program areas and the on-campus health center President Hans also met with local leaders as well as trustees faculty and staff

Congressman MeadowsVisit Congressman Mark Meadows and members of his staff stopped by the Caldwell Campus in Janu-ary 2019 The visit included discussion on the col-leges needs as well as tours of several health sciences programs the Automotive Systems Technology program and the CobraCare Clinic which provides on-campus healthcare for stu-dents faculty and staff

EducationNC and John M Belk Endowment In August 2018 CCCampTI hosted visitors from Edu-cationNC and the John M Belk Endowment on the Caldwell Campus The group visited the Ca-reer Connections Center and toured health sci-ences programs including Nuclear Medicine Radiography Sonography and Ophthalmic Med-ical Assistant The group also had lunch prepared by Culinary Arts students and visited the Trans-portation and Public Services Center where they participated in demonstrations by the Truck Driver Training and Automotive Systems Technology pro-grams

CCCampTIrsquos Economic Impact A report prepared by Economic Modeling Specialists International (EMSI) was presented in early 2019 showing various ways that CCCampTI impacts the local economy Among the reportrsquos highlights

Watauga Campus Student Services Center The new Watauga Campus Student Services Center began taking shape throughout the year with completion anticipated in late 2019 The new 15000-square-foot building will feature a large student gathering area and will house the following services Academic Support Admissions Advising Bookstore Counseling Financial Aid Library Testing Center and the Writing Center

Purchase of Rite Aid Building In May 2019 the Board of Trustees approved the purchase of a former Rite Aid building and accompanying two acres of property adjacent to the 16-acre Transportation and Public Serv-ices Center in Hudson Plans are underway to convert the space into an advanced manufac-turing training center

Night School Initiative With local unemployment at its lowest level in decades the demand for flexible scheduling for working adults at-tending school is increasing In response to the growing need a new Night School program was launched in Spring 2019 by expanding the number of classes available at night as well as the number of degree and job training programs that can be earned at night

Baseball and Softball Added In November 2018 the Board of Trustees approved the addinottion of two new sports menrsquos baseball and womenrsquos softball to the collegersquos Athletics programs Coaches for both sports were soon hired with game play beginning in Fall 2019


Medical Assisting Earns National Accreditation The Medical Assisting program earned accreditation from the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Ed-ucation Programs (CAAHEP) in Fall 2018 CAAHEP is the largest programmatic accredinottor in the health sci-ence field CAAHEP accredited programs are assessed on an ongoing basis to assure that they meet the standards and guidelines of each profession The accreditation is the result of an extensive and detailed self-study conducted by program administrators along with a site visit made on behalf of the Medical Assisting Educanottional Review Board by three peer reviewers

Nursing Program Named to Top 10 The Associate Degree in Nursing program was ranked as one of the best in North Carolina by registerednursingorg The site as-sessed nursing programs on several factors which represent how well a program supports students towards licensure and be-yond as well as past and present first time NCLEX-RN ldquopass-ratesrdquo - weighted by year CCCampTIrsquos program was ranked number 10 in the state on the list which was released in Febru-ary 2019

New Food Service Offerings At the start of the Fall 2018 Semester students were introduced to various new food service offerings The student lounges on both campuses were equipped with new SmartMarket Vending with expanded offerings The Caldwell Campus also added a schedule of food trucks and guest restaurants serving hot food in the student lounge area


Alvin Daughtridge Leads2019 Annual Fund Drive The Foundation of Caldwell Community College and Technical Institute announced in March 2019 that Alvin Daughtridge would lead the 2019 Annual Fund Drive campaign

Daughtridge an executive at Fairfield Chair Com-pany and a member of the CCCampTI Board of Trustees has been a leader in the Caldwell County business community and an advocate for educa-tion for more than five decades

A long-time supporter of the Foundation of CCCampTI Daughtridge said the annual Fund Drive is a way for the college and the community to work together to prepare for the future

ldquoItrsquos humbling and exciting that we have the oppor-tunity to not only move forward and maintain our heritage of excellence but also if we do our job correctly help a lot of studentsrdquo Daughtridge said ldquoI truly think of the college as the change agent for the community The Fund Drive is an opportunity for the community to say lsquowe support you and we believe you will prepare us for what the future holdsrsquordquo

Kickoff The Foundation of Caldwell Community College and Technical Institute held its Annual Fund Campaign kickoff luncheon on Tuesday March 5 at the JE Broyhill Civic Center in Lenoir Peg Broyhill Chair of the Foundationrsquos Board of Directors offered opening remarks and announced the goal for this yearrsquos campaign as $375000 Broyhill also announced that Alvin Daughtridge would be leading the 2019 Annual Fund Drive campaign as Chair

Several students also spoke at the event Dyamond Harvey Patricia Hall and Jody Miller shared how scholarships and assistance through the Foundation helped them pursue their educational goals


Celebration Luncheon The Foundation of Caldwell Community College and Technical Institute held its annual Celebration Luncheon on May 14 2019 Peg Broyhill chair of CCCampTIrsquos Foundation Board announced that the group surpassed its goal of $375000 the highest yet for the Foundation The Foundation celebrated the efforts and success of volunteers campaign leaders board members and college officials Those in attendance enjoyed a Wild West-themed lunch at the JE Broyhill Civic Center and remarks from several community leaders

Dream Award Cermony In a November 2018 ceremony held at Caldwell Community College and Technical Institutersquos JE Broyhill Civic Center in Lenoir the Foundation of CCCampTI named 45 seventh-grade students from

Caldwell and Watauga counties as this yearrsquos Dream Scholars The Dream Award ensures free tuition to attend CCCampTI upon graduation from high school The program offered through the Foundation is in its 29th year and has presented 1233 awards since its inception

Mini-Grant Initiative The Foundation of CCCampTI along with President Dr Mark Poarch launched a new Mini-Grant Proj-ect initiative in 2019 The project allocated $15000 and allowed college faculty and staff members an opportunity to pitch their innovative ideas for a chance at funding via Academic Support dollars raised by the Foundation In total 14 proposals were submitted and seven projects were selected to receive funding through the program allowing for a wide range of ideas to come to fruition for students and the community
