Abraham Lincoln Abe Lincoln was the 16th President of the United States, and during his presidency, the U.S. was going through the worst crisis since the Revolutionary War. Honest Abe Abraham Lincoln had several nicknames, ranging from Honest Abe, to The Great Emancipator February 12, 1809 Abraham Lincoln was born on February 12, and died 56 years later on April 14th by assassination. Mary Todd Lincoln Abraham Lincoln married Mary Todd after a postponement in their engagement which depressed him. They were then married on November 4th, 1842. Family Lincoln had four children. Three of those children never made it beyond 18 years of age. The only surviving one was Robert Todd Lincoln. Education Abraham Lincoln didn’t receive a formal education until nearing manhood. He taught himself law by reading William Blackstone’s Commentaries on the Laws of England. Religion He entertained Christian sentiments, but never stated that he practiced Christianity. State Abraham Lincoln was born in Kentucky. He lived within Hardin County, in a forested area, and lived in a log house. Political Party Lincoln represented the Whig Party in 1834 as a Lawyer. He was the first representative for the Republican Party in the 1860 presidential election. Occupations Before he became joined the U.S. Government, he worked as a Wood splitter, shopkeeper, postmaster, general store owner, and practiced law in the John T. Stuart law firm, in that order.
