Volume 33, Number 5 • May-June 2011
President’s ReportMargaret Martin
The 38th Annual General Meetingof the Superannuated Teachers ofSaskatchewan held in Saskatoon onMay 10-12, 2011, was again verysuccessful. We had delegates inattendance from all 43 Chapterseager to discuss and vote on the 22resolutions that provide direction tothe Executive and to learn moreabout the STS organization. We alsohad the opportunity to celebrate ourgrowing membership of now over9450 members and to have somefun. Thank you to Shirley Dyck andDoug Haroldson for co-chairinganother successful event for ourorganization.
In my address to the delegates at the AGM, I made someobservations based on my 21 visitsto Chapters in Saskatchewan duringthe past year. I would like to sharethese with all of our members.
• STS members know how to havefun! Whether you are meeting inMurphy's Bar in Melfort orenjoying lunch and tea at Adelle'sTea House in Carrot River orcelebrating a curling victory oreven a loss in Shellbrook, yoursmiles and enthusiasm have beencontagious.
• STS members are very knowl -edge able and talented people! Ihave been given insight into theconstruction of instru ments thatare capable of being played bysymphony musicians at theMelville Opera House andlistened to excellent presenta -tions given to your fellowChapter members such as one ongenealogy in Gravelbourg and ahistorical presentation to markthe 125th Anniversary of theNorthwest Resistance of 1885 inLloydminster and highlightsfrom a member’s trip to Africa inSaskatoon. Not only are you veryknowledgeable and talented, butyou are all very happy to shareinformation with others.
• STS members are eager to learnmore about our organization! The many comments after mypres entations about our Extend -ed Health and Dental Plan, ourTravel Benefits, our Teachers’Superannuation Plan and theSaskatchewan Teachers’ Retirement
Plan, and our Group LifeInsurance indicated that ourmembers are anxious to receiveup to date information especiallyabout matters that affect our lives.
• STS members are excellent chefsor know just the right places to go for good food! I had anopportunity to sample manyexcellent dishes in Wakaw, Craik,Tisdale, Greenwater, Saskatoon,Churchbridge, Maple Creek,Swift Current, Prince Albert,Regina, Kindersley, Bankend,Weyburn, Biggar, and Yorkton, as well as, the locations I havealready noted earlier. There have been so many deliciousluncheons and dinners that Irealize my exercise routine mustbe mandatory!
• STS members provide invaluableassistance to their communities! Not only are SuperannuatedTeachers of Saskatchewan com -mitted to and supportive of theirlocal Chapters but they alsoprovide many hours of work orvolunteer assistance to theircommunities. I believe that with -out the countless hours ofassistance that we provide, mostwithout remuneration, manycommunity organizations orservice groups would be unable toprovide the services they now do.
President Margaret Martin welcomed thedelegates to this 38th Annual General Meeting.
