To The Superannuated Teachers of Saskatchewan Volume 33, Number 5 • May-June 2011 President’s Report Margaret Martin The 38th Annual General Meeting of the Superannuated Teachers of Saskatchewan held in Saskatoon on May 10-12, 2011, was again very successful. We had delegates in attendance from all 43 Chapters eager to discuss and vote on the 22 resolutions that provide direction to the Executive and to learn more about the STS organization. We also had the opportunity to celebrate our growing membership of now over 9450 members and to have some fun. Thank you to Shirley Dyck and Doug Haroldson for co-chairing another successful event for our organization. In my address to the delegates at the AGM, I made some observations based on my 21 visits to Chapters in Saskatchewan during the past year. I would like to share these with all of our members. STS members know how to have fun! Whether you are meeting in Murphy's Bar in Melfort or enjoying lunch and tea at Adelle's Tea House in Carrot River or celebrating a curling victory or even a loss in Shellbrook, your smiles and enthusiasm have been contagious. • STS members are very knowl- edge a ble and talented people! I have been given insight into the construction of instru ments that are capable of being played by symphony musicians at the Melville Opera House and listened to excellent presenta - tions given to your fellow Chapter members such as one on genealogy in Gravelbourg and a historical presentation to mark the 125th Anniversary of the Northwest Resistance of 1885 in Lloydminster and highlights from a member’s trip to Africa in Saskatoon. Not only are you very knowledgeable and talented, but you are all very happy to share information with others. • STS members are eager to learn more about our organization! The many comments after my pres entations about our Extend- ed Health and Dental Plan, our Travel Benefits, our Teachers’ Superannuation Plan and the Saskatchewan Teachers’ Retirement Plan, and our Group Life Insurance indicated that our members are anxious to receive up to date information especially about matters that affect our lives. • STS members are excellent chefs or know just the right places to go for good food! I had an opportunity to sample many excellent dishes in Wakaw, Craik, Tisdale, Greenwater, Saskatoon, Churchbridge, Maple Creek, Swift Current, Prince Albert, Regina, Kindersley, Bankend, Weyburn, Biggar, and Yorkton, as well as, the locations I have already noted earlier. There have been so many delicious luncheons and dinners that I realize my exercise routine must be mandatory! STS members provide invaluable assistance to their communities! Not only are Superannuated Teachers of Saskatchewan com- mitted to and supportive of their local Chapters but they also provide many hours of work or volunteer assistance to their communities. I believe that with- out the countless hours of assistance that we provide, most without remuneration, many community organizations or service groups would be unable to provide the services they now do. President Margaret Martin welcomed the delegates to this 38th Annual General Meeting.
